Aire Serv was able to make it out not even a day after we called them. We really needed their help because it was so hot so we really appreciate how quickly they were able to come by. Service was quality and everyone was very friendly.

We had Aire Serv work on our home. Their bid, when compared to the other 2 bids we received, was in the middle on performance and cost. The work was done as described. However, there were some problems. We called for assistance, and Aire Serv fixed our problems at no additional cost to us. They also did additional work as well. A company can be measured by their reaction to adversity. Aire Serv responded very well to our request for support, and made it a high priority to satisfy us. In particular, the owner David Crunk attended and assisted the work, and personally oversaw all repairs. Taber, the service technician called upon to support as, was particularly helpful. We appreciate the work of Aire Serv on our home.

Aire Serv replaced a compressor for us the first week in July, and things seemed fine until yesterday, (9/12), when it quit cooling. My wife called American Home Shield, our warranty company, and requested that they send out Aire Serv again, to fix this new problem. She was told by AHS that Aire Serv wasn't taking warranty jobs at this time, and we were set up with another company.

I went out with the service guy when he arrived today, and was a little miffed to find out why the unit wasn't working. One of the three wires running to the compressor had fallen off, evidently having been only loosely attached originally. Upon further investigation, the other two wires were also loosely attached, and with 1/4"" SHEET METAL SCREWS! The service guy was puzzled that these type of screws were used, and for a couple of reasons. First of all, the screws were all too small, and thus couldn't be tightened. But more importantly, these screws were used instead of the correct ones, which come packaged with compressors! So not only did the service guy use the wrong screws, he had to make an effort to NOT use the right ones! We also discovered a wire that was pinched when the Aire Serv guy put the fan back on the unit, a condition that would have led to the wire wearing through and eventually shorting out. I should have know the AS guy was a numbskull when he put the new compressor into place, then had to crawl into the unit to put the rubber feet on. I asked him if it wouldn't have been easier to put the feet on, and then place the compressor, and he said, ""I guess so...."".

9/15:

AireServe came out today, after the warranty company said they needed to fix their screwup, not the company that was out on 9/13. The service guy was very knowledgeable, apologized many times over, and stated that they had been lied to by the guy that was here in July; that he wasn't nearly as experienced as he said he was. Besides the screwups mentioned above, he had also soldered in a smaller diameter copper pipe, an action this guy said was illegal. They put in a brand new compressor, capacitor and copper lines, thereby fixing the mistakes made in July.

Overall, I was satisfied, but I would have preferred not to be the screener for their hiring practices; the guy that screwed up our house was fired that same week. And if you fire someone for gross incompetence, wouldn't it make sense to do a quality check on his jobs? Makes sense to me...

I strongly recommend not using Austin Aire-Serve for the following reasons:

1) They misrepresented their work and are unwilling to take any action to remedy the situation. When providing the in-home estimate, they told me verbally that they would put in a 16 SEER unit with a dual-stage compressor (a dual-stage compressor has a lower speed for cooler days so it is more efficient) and they wrote 16 SEER on the estimate. I assumed that 16 SEER required a dual stage compressor, because when discussing similar priced estimates with other companies, the other companies also mentioned a dual stage compressor. I did some research on the model numbers of the unit that Aireserve installed, and I found out that Aireserve installed a 16 SEER single speed compressor. They now refuse to provide any form of reparation. They informed me that the difference in price between a dual-stage and non-dual stage 16 SEER AC is $1000.

2) The owner, David Crunk, lied to my face and admitted it. When they installed the AC unit, it had government label of 14 SEER on the outdoor compressor. When I questioned David about it, he gave me a 15 minute story about how the outside is 14 SEER but the inside unit and coil pairing makes it 16 SEER. Then, his colleague came to the house and noticed the 14 SEER label. I overheard His colleague David Taylor calling the manufacturer and it turned out that the wrong label was on the unit. At that point, David Crunk said he "told me a story."

3) I had to call Aire-Serve to return after the MASTIK sealing between the top of the unit to the ducts collapsed. When the technician came back, he told me he knew it was going to happen. Instead of putting in solid duct insulation to make a more solid frame, he tried to mastik a huge gap between the condensor and the duct. Who cares if I have to miss more work while he comes back to fix it, right?

4) I also had in the contract for them to seal all electrical outlets, windows, doors, and pipe extrusions for increased energy efficiency. After I hired them for this job and they had already begun, David Crunk told me he doesn't recommend putting on door frame trim insulation because then the door would have a hard time closing. Sure enough, my doors don't close well now. They broke a decoration worth $50 and refuse to compensate me for it. Then, they told me they weren't going to caulk my windows because that would entail unscrewing my solar screens from the window and they didn't want to accept any liability of damage for screwing my solar screens back in. I insisted they do the seal job and they left out my solar screens, including on my second story windows which I don't have a ladder high enough to replace them myself.
