My fianc bought me a 1.5 carat diamond ring a few years back. The diamond is now chipped where the prong is located. This means that the several inspections that were done over the past few years were for nothing. The sales staff was completely rude and were not willing to resolve the matter. They stated that they would give me credit but not for 1.5 carats/10K. Like we originally paid only 1.0/ 5K. Please know that I am an experienced shopper at higher end stores and have never experienced such unacceptable service. Take your well earned money somewhere else.
I never take the time to write reviews but this was the most awful experience I have ever had, I was in the store today ring shopping with a girlfriend and i left the store and came back and not once could i get a sales associate to show me a ring
I do not know if this is because i did not have my boyfriend with me or if they are just that rude but they lost at least a ten thousand dollar sale and from previious posters it appears that i am not the only one with this experience
Save yourself the frustration and spend your hard earned money someplace that will value you as a customer
I had a wonderful experience, the saleswoman made me feel right at home. She was very thorough and she made me feel very confident in my choices of choosing the right diamond and band.\r
I did some research on diamonds and Americus Diamond was right on target with my research. I visited just about every jewelry store in San Antonio, and for the same product, Americus Diamond had, by far, better quality and prices than the others. \r
I recommend and brag about Americus Diamond to family and friends. I am very pleased!
We came to Americus Diamond after seeing the ad on KSAT 12 numerous times. My husband went two weeks ago to check things out. A salesperson recommended my husband should bring his wife first before making any final decisions. So, we passed by there today. I had seen a specific ring I liked but didn't see a ring that matched what I had seen in the ad. Luckily, I found a ring with an extra wide band- but , I didn't like the shape of the diamond. Our salesman found the exact size and shape I wanted and within 3 hours, I was walking out of Americus Diamond with a wonderful ring and we didn't break the bank with the great price. Thanks to Americus Diamond and their great salesman!
All of the reviews are real. None of the reviews are fake. (Except, perhaps the reviews written by competing jewelers.) \r

When it came time for us to shop for a diamond engagement ring, we went to Americus diamond, who a few friends had recommended. It was a great experience. Jason, the sales representative, was very informative and helped us find the exact ring and diamond. It was very low pressure. We then went to other retailers. No one came close to the selection or price that Americus Diamond had. I will recommend Americus Diamond to any friend or family member looking for an engagement ring!
OK, so if none of you can tell, many of these reviews are fake! CitySearch accounts are being made and positive reviews are being made up to inflate Americus Diamond's score. Take a look at the suspicious reviews on several of the pages.
1. Several Reviews on the same day.
2. Similar usernames like Rick220 or Amy014.
3. Very few exclamation points during the reviews. The writing style is the same.
The first reviews are almost all negative. Then, lo and behold, WOW! A bevy of 5 star reviews. Yeah right.
Pretty Shameful IMO!!!!!!!! <--see, exclamation points
We apologize for your experience on Saturday. It is never our intention to overlook anyone. The day you were in was the Saturday before Valentines Day. We had all of our staff in the showroom and we were shocked to see so many customers. We waited on more than 500 jewelry shoppers, and we cleaned and checked rings for more than 100 people. It was by far the busiest day of Valentines shopping weve had in 30 years.\r
We are so sorry that we disappointed you. We have a person upstairs who monitors store traffic and keeps track of whos next in line for service. The system works well on most days but Saturday was exceptionally difficult. We are sorry, we would never intentionally overlook anyone for any reason- customers are the reason we exist. We absolutely want to help every customer. If you are ignored, it is a grievous, unintentional mistake on our part. Please tell us, well get the store director to help you right away. \r
We offer a lifetime warranty, and we offer free cleaning, inspection and sizing on our merchandise. Three years ago, we upgraded all of our previous customers warranties to our Signature Warranty which we now offer to all of our new customers. In addition to the benefits of your warranty, we do not require that you have your jewelry inspected every 6 months. You can come in as often or as little as you prefer and the warranty stays in effect. Weve tried to tell all of our previous customers that have come in for free cleaning over the last 3 years about their free Signature Warranty upgrade. \r
Please call us. Our store director would love to clean your rings and assist you in any way. \r

My husband bought me an engagement ring here 6 years ago and if I didnt have to get my ring cleaned and inspected every six months, I would never step foot in this place. It never fails, I wait 30 minutes to get someones attention, while sales men pass us by and ignore us like we are invisible, they dont even make eye contact. That is just to drop off the ring to get cleaned. This happens every time. But today was worse. I was going to buy my husband the diamond band I promised him 5 yrs ago and asked for a salesman help butnoone ever came but they were available to help a couple just walked in the door 30 seconds ago, literally. I starred at every sales person in place but noone made eyecontact. I cant believe we gave this place $6000 for my ring but this experience remindede not to spend another 5000 to get treated like second class citizens.
When my husband decided he wanted to ask me to marry him, he wanted to go to several places and I kept pushing for Americus Diamond, having dealt with them before. We walked in, he looked around and never wanted to go to another store again. The associate he dealt with was very friendly and new a lot of information about rings. She taught him quite a bit about quality and more. We will always come back to Americus Diamond and we recommend it ALWAYS. We even told my mom about Americus Diamond and now she is a happy customer, too.
Our experience has been amazing. We were referred by my parents who are long time customers. My husband began the jorney by looking for my engagement ring. The staff was amazing. They worked with his budget of $2000, and explained in detail the four C's. The Americus Diamond staff helped him make the purchase of a lifetime. We were so impressed that we came back for our bands. Service is always above par. Thank you for the love of helping customers with their purchase and still honoring us every six months as we come in for cleanings.
Dear Mo78125, we sincerely apologize for the service you experienced in our store. We feel there is no excuse for the lack of attention you describe. We very clearly realize that people do shop several stores before they make a decision about purchasing an engagement ring. We have many customers who have made numerous visits over a period of months before deciding on a ring. It
Absolutely pleased with the cordial and professional attention that Mondelle at Americus Diamond provided in the selection and design of our wedding and engagement rings. Mondelle offered numerous suggestions and tips to make the process a very smooth and enjoyable experience. We were treated with the utmost respect in regards to our requested changes in ring arrangements. It is our sincere hope that Mondelle receives great recognition for his commitment to his customers and Americus Diamond.
My boyfriend and I were in the market for an engagement ring, so Americus was one of our stops while spending the afternoon browsing different stores. I was overwhelmed by excitement when I walked through the door because there were so many display cases with a huge selection of rings. This was also the first negative experience I had at a jewelry store.\r
The salesperson who assisted us didn't really seem like she cared to help us; there was no friendly conversation, and I felt like we were being a burden to her. She didn't suggest anything, and she just kind of tossed the rings up on the counter without saying anything. She knew that we weren't going to buy that day, but wouldn't you think if she wanted us to come back, that she would act like a salesperson should? So I have to say that the service we received is the main reason we will not be making any future purchases at Americus.\r
Another reason why I didn't care for this store is their lack of care for the clarity and color of the diamond. Although the diamonds in the cases sparkled brightly, it's mainly just because of the lighting. If you look closely, half of the diamonds look yellow or grey. I know that you can customize the setting you prefer to a different diamond, but the fact that they would sell these low-quality diamonds disheartens me. What I enjoyed about ring-searching is that a lot of stores won't sell below a certain requirement, and we're still in the same price range as the rings here at Americus.\r
Before our search, we had mixed feelings about reviews that came from our friends; most people didn't recommend it, others loved it. But, needless to say, MOSTLY due to the service and the environment here, we won't be coming back.
I bought my wedding set 13 years ago from Americus Diamond. When I brought it in for a minor repair, the sales person told me about the trade-in policy and we started looking for a different style that I wanted. She gave me her card and I left. When I went to pick up my repaired ring, I looked at styles again to trade in (another person showed me the rings). I couldn't decide and I left again. The 3rd time I went in, another associate showed me different rings and I decided on the ""perfect"" ring for me! All 3 associates answered my questions and were very patient.
Americus is the only store where I buy my jewelry! Their associates are not paid on commision, nor on the amount that they sell-- this is true customer service at it's best. FYI- Steve was the associate that helped me find the ring.
I've been very happy with my purchases from Americus Diamonds over the years. Their new location off DeZavala is so clean and pleasant. We recently came in to upgrade our ring and we had not one, but two very helpful salespeople. My wife didn't know what shape stone she wanted when we came in, and they were very patient as she tried them all on. We've been recommending this store to our friends for over fifteen years.
And what's the deal with this Jabumx10? If you don't want everyone to think you're a liar, then you shouldn't lie! 6 minutes turns into 30 minutes? She's clearly embarrassed that someone actually called her out, but maybe now she'll think twice before she exaggerates.
I appreciate the fact that Americus Diamond is quicker to reply to comments left online than selling a necklace chain...
I would like to point out that you said nothing to the regards of the attitude your associate had with me, which bothered me the most, and I also made a point to point out that previously I had had more than positive experience there before, but the attitude of your associate upset me so much that I actually felt the need to post my poor experience there, and now I am obligated to reply to your comment.
I certainly don't wish to be implied as a liar, but misleading other readers to what actually occurred by stating that costumers who cannot believe the poor quality of service they received is nothing but a lie- it's ridiculous! Rather than putting down customers and calling them liars, please correct the errors of mistreating them by not putting them down, or making them wait for something they knew they wanted.
Previous customers also point out how they try to 'PROVE' you're lying, and I would not even waste my time going over to see the security video they misquote me on.
Thanks to reading posts like these made me realize that the only way I would even get a response from your company is by posting my experience online, I hope that people see how you truly treat your costumers, and if you intend on bettering your customer service you stop putting us down.
Overall, we had a good experience at Americus. My boyfriend took me in on Thursday, and we were able to pick out my ring. At the suggestion of the sales person, we first found the set that we liked, and then we had the diamond we wanted to put in it. This allowed us to get almost any ring within our price range. The salespeople were very understanding and tolerant of my 2 year old son who was also with us. They had a kid's movie playing over in the corner, and we were able to keep him in our sight the entire time.
It did take a few minutes to have my ring ready to go out the door, but that is because they custom build it for you, and they size it in the same day (this takes time). The only bad service we had with the whole experience was our sales person. She did a wonderful job letting us look at the jewelry that we liked, but I felt like she was holding back and didn't exactly know what kind of inventory they had. I would have liked her to show us some rings that were similar to the ones we were already looking at or maybe some that were different, but with similar features (i.e. solitaire diamond, tri stone, etc).
We will probably go back if we find the need for other jewelry (and I will probably be going back to have my ring sized once I lose the weight for my wedding).
I have previously gone to Americus Diamonds in SA without any trouble or issues from maintenance for my necklace, to fixing my chain when it broke. However, today I had THE WORST service I've ever experience from there.
My necklace broke again and I wanted to get it fixed, first it took more than 30 minutes for anyone to even notice me. Once they did approach me, and I asked them if I could get my necklace fixed, the associate first asked me if I had even bought my necklace from them. I understand the reason for question, however, I didn't appreciate the tone of the question. I also asked if I could see what other necklace chains I could get, since I got my money's worth on mine, but he kept mentioning about how the only way I could get Trade in is if my boyfriend who bought the necklace, was present to trade it it.
I remained calm, and explained again that I don't wish to trade in my necklace, but only fix the chain and possibly buy another one. The associate told me that they would have to find the name under the buyer (took a while), and once he came back and realized I was telling him the truth, then he went back to see how long it would take to fix it (took even longer to return). Finally when he returned, he told me it would take until the next day to fix it (last time I went there it took less than 30 minutes for them to fix it).
I was a little frustrated but I still wanted to see if I could see some options for chains so I asked once more if I could see some. Hesitant, he went to the back for the chains (waited even longer to return, if fact i had 4 different associates come up to me to see if I had been helped before he came back) and when he did get back, he asked me how long my chain was, (he had JUST dropped it off to get it fixed, by the way) got the length and once again he took his time finding the right size for me. He came back with the necklaces and I was almost hesitant to buy it from him due to the lack of service but I bought it anyways because I really wanted a replacement. He offered me a box to put my newly purchased chain and didn't bring it with him when he came back with my receipt (again, took his time doing so). When I initialed my purchase, he went over the policies, and also made a nice comment about having insurance for your jewelry, now I know my purchase wasn't huge, but I didn't appreciate him saying, 'well, it's not like you need it' and smiled.
Overall, I apologize for the rant, but I doubt I will make any other purchase from them again, or at least that associate should not have had the audacity to have me wait over an hour to purchase something I had made up my mind about. And as a last chuckle to the story, he told me that my necklace chain that I wanted to be repaired, would actually be ready in a minute, after I had just purchased another chain.... what are the odds.
We apologize for your experience at our store. It
Americus Diamond has a 10days return policy if you are not happy with your purchase. They honored the policy but not gratefully. Some sale floor staff were very nice but the managers and few other sale staff were not. I upgraded my ring within the 10days period and I don't understand why the managers and few staff gave me attitude and look. \r
Take some time to discipline your employees to stay in business. If more people write more bad reviews you will loose a lot of business.
My experience at Americus Diamond was nothing less than amazing!!! My fiance and I had been by the store a few times in the past just looking at engagement rings. And 1 month ago he purposed to me on my 24th birthday! The ring was gorgeous and not even the one that I originally picked out! It was better! Since the engagement, Americus Diamond has sized my ring twice with no hesitation! They really go above and beyond for their customers! And the layout and building is beautiful! They really take pride in the diamonds they sell and the quality in their diamonds is amazing!\r
This review is from a (now) lifetime customer! (not an employee or owner!!)
There are always two sides to every story, and many times neither are completely accurate. On the 23rd of December 2010, we serviced more than 1,000 individuals and sold more than 2/3s of the annual volume of an average jewelry store in one day. We are delighted when one of our customers wishes to view jewelry for a future purchase on any day including the 23rd of December. We are always happy to look up records so that they can plan on making a purchase sometime in the future. This is a service we gladly offer anytime and we performed for greenkey33 on the 23rd. \r
Isabel was shocked by the review as she remembers the situation much differently. As she remembers it, she was finishing up a with another customer and walking to the office to get their receipt and appraisal, when greenkey33 flagged her down. greenkey33 said she wanted information about her past purchases because she wanted to bring her husband in to upgrade her ring in the future. Isabel told greenkey33 that she was finishing up with another customer, but if the greenkey33 could write down the name on the receipt, she would look it up for her when she finished with the other customer. greenkey33 wrote her name and her husbands name. Isabel went to the back office, and while her customers paperwork was printing, she looked up the greenkey33 receipt. Isabel found that the purchase was made under the womans husbands name and greenkey33 wasnt listed on the receipt. Because of ownership and confidentiality concerns, we only give information to the purchaser, or individuals listed on the receipt by the purchaser.\r
When Isabel returned to the showroom, greenkey33 had moved to a more distant location and was looking at jewelry. After Isabel finished with her customer, she told greenkey33 about the receipt. Isabel said that greenkey33 became very rude, made a scene, and asked to talk to the manager. Isabel pointed out the store director who was 15 feet away with another customer and said shed be glad to get her. But, Isabel said, greenkey33"" hesitated and said that she liked to write letters, and asked for the managers name. Isabel gave the store directors name and greenkey33 left. \r
Isabels recollection is that the entire interaction took about 10 minutes. greenkey33 writes that she asked other representatives for the managers name. They probably gave her the customer service managers name, not the store directors name. Isabel says she did not show jewelry to greenkey33, and the baby was not crying. Isabel has 3 children and is a prime caregiver to her 22 month old granddaughter. She loves babies and is hyper aware of babies in the store, she loves to visit with them.\r
24 days after the 23rd, greenkey33 wrote many nasty things about Isabel online. Granted, memory of a situation can change over 24 days, but, we dont feel that Isabel deserves to be publicly flogged for trying to help greenkey33 on the busiest day of the year. None of our representatives are on commission and customer service is our highest priority. Isabel is a good and caring person.\r
This is a response to the review written by greenkey33. We apologize for the experience. We were not aware of the situation that occurred on 12/23/10 until we read the review written on 1/16/11. ""greenkey33"" has not called or written about the situation. We dont recall her name. If she contacts us, we would like to offer the assistance of our store director for any service we can offer. We would like to address this review here, but first, we would like to address negative reviews in general. \r
We received our first negative review on 10/6/06. It was heartbreaking. We try very, very hard to please every customer, it is our business to please our customers. \r
We have received 14 negative reviews since 2006, most of the reviewers did not contact us, and we have very good reason to believe that some of them were written by a competitor. Since 10/6/06, our records show that we have serviced more than 370,000 customers in our very large jewelry store. From those customers, we have received thousands of positive handwritten reviews that we have posted with permission on our website. We have discovered 14 negative reviews posted on the web. Thats one negative review per every 26,000 customers we serviced during that time period. We would vastly prefer that there were 0 negative reviews. Our owner served on the Board Of Directors of The Better Business Bureau for many years.\r
We spoke with Isabel, our coworker, about this review and she remembers the situation. We would like to state, for the record, that Isabel has worked with us for 6 years and we feel that she is one of the very best, hardest working, customer service representatives we have ever employed. I have never known her to lie to a customer or to management - a lie is grounds for dismissal in our store and Isabel is not a liar. Isabel cares very much for our customers and works very hard for them, as seen in dozens of customer reviews referencing her that are posted on our website.\r
End Part 1, continued\r
And here is where the real problem was. Isabel asked who the name of the purchaser was and I told her my husband's name. She then said she had to go to the back to look up the information. I waited, and waited, and waited and my ring came back clean. I continued to wait and finally I saw Isabel come out of the back and to my surprise she was helping someone else. I said ""Finally"" when she came out and she said to hold on, I watched her walk to a customer, sit down and sell him something and I stood there, rocking my stroller back and forth because I had a baby who, after all this time, was incredibly fussy. I waited for exactly 14 minutes for her until I saw her again (phone calls timed her) and then another 5-6 minutes while I watched her wrap up his sale and at no time did she ever apologize for the wait. But it gets better.... she then proceeds to tell me that she cannot give me any information about my ring because it is in my husband's name. I WAITED 20 MINUTES FOR THIS! With a crying baby. I cannot even explain how upset I was, so when I told her ""you could have told me that right away"" she said she did not know that policy and I said when she found out she could have immediately told me so I could have left instead of waiting. Or she could have told me on the way to ring the other customer up. When I asked her why she didn't do this she said she had been helping the other customer. At NO time did she ever say she was helping someone else I told her. If I knew she was busy I would have not even asked for her help. I think she left me to check, got busy with another customer and then forgot about me and when confronted and asked for an explanation she said she was just busy. Never apologized, ever. As she rolled her eyes at me and talked to me in a tone of voice that I did not care for from a sales person, I asked who the store manager was and she told me a name. As I walked out I asked two more people the store managers name and they each gave me the same and different name than Isabel gave me. Lies always come out.
I was going to call the manager but found this site and thought that this would give a very accurate account of my experience to more then just the store manager.
I honestly think that my experience was in part, how I looked that day, and her utter lack of regard for the customers feelings. Since my husband has made partner in his law firm, I was thinking about trading up my rings and other jewelry but now I am looking to work with other reputable diamond stores. I may consider going back there but only if Isabel is not there at that time. (or no longer employed)
I am appalled at the level of customer service that the sales person, Isabel, displayed at my last visit. I have been there several times and we have spent several thousand dollars there and this is the worst experience I have ever had, anywhere.
Condescending, rude, unhelpful, short; these are a few words I would use to describe this sales person.
I arrived to have my engagement and wedding ring cleaned and a very helpful woman took it from me. They were very busy because it was the 23rd of December and then Isabel came out and told her to help some other people who were waiting and she would take care of my cleaning. I guessed she was some kind of manager because she was ordering around the other woman. When I asked to see a few rings while I was waiting she begrudgingly complied. She stood and waited while I looked at several rings. She never offered any help or asked any questions even after I explained I was looking into trading my ring up which I had done previously. She just stood there which was fine but not at all a very welcoming or friendly sales person. I was with her for about 10-15 minutes and then I told her my engagement ring was a little over $8,000 and the wedding band was around $2000 and that I wanted to see what the exact amount I would have to pay to trade up would be. I have the receipts at home and just didn't take them with me.
End of part one
I really enjoyed the experience i had at Americus Diamond. The staff was very friendly and a the quality of jewelry is the best around. I strongly recommend the store to all my family and friends. My fiancee loves the ring we picked out.
To the shopper on 9/18/10. We apologize for your experience on Saturday. Our records
show that we saw 147 couples that day. We always attempt to give everyone the best
service, but sometimes we mess up. I talked to the representative you spoke with. He
agreed that you were very upset with us, and he assured me that he attempted to
apologize to both you and your wife for the wait, and he remembers that you stayed
for only a few minutes more. The store director was off that weekend but called you
on Monday, and from your conversation we understood that you were going to call back
to set up a time to come in, so we could make your experience right. Once again, we
apologize for the wait, it was entirely unintentional.

None of our reviews are ever fake. We invite to you come to Americus Diamond to
review the signed, dated, hand-written original of every customers review we have
Me and my wife went to Americus Diamond a couple of days ago. We heard a lot about them some negative and some positive, but we thought we would check them out for ourselves. We walked in the store on a rainy Saturday, so not to many people in the store. The sales reps completely ignored us(maybe cause the people they went out their way to help didn't look like us). even when we were face to face with a sales rep, still nothing. After 15 mins in the store someone finally ask us have we been helped and when he shows us the ring, he just puts it on the glass and looks at us as if we were selling him the ring. He didn't ask us not one question about what we were looking for or what price range were in. Americus Diamond is the lowest level on professionalism i have ever came across. you would expect with high prices the service would be similar of higher standards. After we left the store we called and asked to speak with the general manger whom was not there,. We left a message, hopefully i can get a callback but will it change anything? Because i believe that the poor management skills reflect the experience you receive from the sale reps.
I had a horrible experience at Americus Diamond, The mark ups are HUGE! Yes they have a large inventory but the prices are ridiculous!
Most of these reviews are FAKE, that should be warning enough!!!
My fiance and I got engaged and he purchased a ring for me at Kays. I discovered how much he spent and I was baffled! We took the ring back and headed to Americus Diamond. I had always wanted a ring from there because of the many recommendations from family and friends. As soon as we walked in we knew were in the right place. I was offerered champagne and pastries while my fiance explored the many wonderful options they had. We were helped by Isabel and she was so patient, knowledgable and kind. I found my dream ring rather quickly and had it sized immediately! The service they provide is by far exceptional and beats any other jeweler in San Antonio. I will not shop anywhere else but Americus Diamond for my jewelry! And for the record my fiance saved over $2000 on his purchase at Americus Diamond. They are experts at what they do and their jewelry is divine to say the least. \r
Forever a loyal customer! \r
Pros: Service, Quality.
I'm a bit shocked so many people are complaining about the staff. My fiance and I worked with one gentleman in particular who was GREAT!!!!!!!!! He helped us for what seemed like forever. We looked at ring, after ring, after ring. He was never rude once. No eye rolling, no impatience, nothing. He was more than willing to answer any question we had, even the ones about bringing in other rings. He flat out told us they are somewhat leery about outside diamonds and explained just as the Americus Diamond post did. Sooooo maybe it's just the women?? (kidding!) He, of course, wanted us to buy the absolute most for our money but had no qualms about showing us a lesser diamond. For every diamond we wanted to ""inspect"" he put it on the microscope and allowed us to compare and compare again. In reality we made him work for our business.
He was also very clear about which items were excluded from the return/upgrade policy.
We looked at other places and needless to say I kept coming back to them. I think it all comes down to a matter of opinion and what services you require.
Also, this is my second ring from there. My first one was taken care of and upgraded with no problem at all. Pretty much a ""no questions asked"" kind of experience, except for ""What size diamond are you looking to move up to?""
Pros: great staff, nice atmosphere, big selection
This is a response from Americus Diamond concerned the two negative reviews on Citysearch. We are very concerned when a customer expresses dissatisfaction, and we have reviewed the situations. \r
Concerning the review dated 1/14/10: We do have a 20% trade-up policy. Most jewelers have none, and if they do its almost always a 100% trade up policy. However, there are certain types of items, listed clearly on every receipt, which we exclude from trade in. These items are gold chains, gold earrings without stones, pearls, watches, and certain special order wedding bands. \r
In these cases, at the time of purchase our customer signs a specific statement on the receipt that agrees to this condition, and initials a spot on the guarantees that indicates that they understand and agree to the guarantees. We keep the original documents on file. \r
In this case, the individual wished to trade in a special order wedding band that was excluded from trade in. The original purchase was made in 2001. We dont feel that Henry lied, we feel that nine years have passed and perhaps memory of details have faded. However, we have the original signed documents on file. \r
Concerning the review dated 12/26/10: We feel that an educated customer is our best customer. That is why we produced our informational television program, why we offer it online, why we offer well-educated diamond associates, and why we have eleven GIA microscopes in our showroom for our customers use. \r
Unfortunately, our experience is that most of the internet diamonds we have seen in our store are substandard in some way. Either the diamond doesnt match the certificate (GIA, EGLUSA, & AGS have repeatedly warned the public of counterfeit certificates on the internet), the diamond is so badly cut that it cannot be set properly, or there are inclusions or a thin girdle that weaken the diamond so that it is dangerous to set it. We do not offer these diamonds in our store and it is truly not our responsibility to assume the risk of setting them. \r
Most internet diamond sites, including Blue Nile, do not own the diamonds they sell. Diamond cutters and wholesalers upload information about their diamonds to the internet sites, a customer purchases a diamond and the diamond is usually drop-shipped from the cutter. In most cases, the internet site never sees the diamond. Cutters and wholesalers joke constantly about the substandard diamonds they sell on the web. The internet brings the Golden Age to cutters because the unsaleable diamonds that have been sitting in their vaults for years are now very easy to sell on the internet. Its very unfortunate.\r
The diamonds we usually see from the internet are the dregs, the leftovers, the diamonds that cutters cant sell to their knowledgeable customers who are the gemologists, jewelry store owners and wholesalers who snap up the best diamonds as soon as they are cut. \r
When a customer brings in a well-cut, beautiful diamond that meets Americus Diamond quality standards that was purchased anywhere else, whether from the internet, from another jeweler, or a family heirloom, we are pleased to set it in one of our beautiful rings. However, if our GIA Graduate Gemologists or our jewelers feel that a diamond would be dangerous to set or if it is substandard in some way, it is not our responsibility to set it in our jewelry.\r
In 2001, I purchase 3 rings from these bandits at extravagant prices for my future wife and I. At the time I was insured that the exchange policy applied to all 3 items. You know, if you want to return it later for an item 20% more than the original price. Most respected jewelrey stores have this policy, it was great, right? WRONG!! What I didn't know was the salesman, Henry, LIED to me outright. Upon returning to upgrade my ring (a mens platinum band) for a watch that cost three times the price, I was told that my ring didn't qualify for they're exchange program and that I was out of luck. I told them this is not what I was told, they didn't care. The ring was in perfect condition, I had every scrap of paperwork. Bottom line, Americus Diamond IS NOT concerned with customer satisfaction or in service after the sale. They just want your money, you are nothing but a sale. I've never had a worse experience anywhere. Best of luck wherever you choose to buy from.
Cons: Terrible customer service
Living in the 'information age', you can now do a ton of research on line before making a large purchase such as an engagement ring. If you are the type of person that does your 'homework', you will not pleased with Americus Diamond experience. \r
I've seen the Americus Diamond program on television and the internet and found it to be helpful. But my research didn't stop there. As I armed myself with additional information from websites such as 'Pricescope', etc. I felt like a confident buyer. I took my knowledge into Americus Diamond and found that when you begin to ask tough questions, they begin to get irrated with you. For example, I was looking at a diamond from Blue Nile (which I suggest you look at as well if you are making a purchase) and wrote down the specification from the GIA report (which is provided online). I asked questions about this diamond to the salesperson at Americus and they told me 'never buy a diamond off of the internet'. What? After I decided to buy the diamond from the internet (based on parameters from Pricescope, and of couse, price), I went back to look at a setting I liked from Americus. They now informed me that I could not buy the setting. Again, what? Their attitude was really horrible. I ended up taking my business elsewhere and my experience became joyful again.\r
My point is, arm yourself with knowledge and you'll see that Americus is not all it's cracked up to be. If you are thrifty, you can buy a beautiful, certified diamond online (and in some cases avoid the sales tax) and have it set at a jewlery store that is willing to walk you through the process and take their time with you. You'll end up enjoying the experience, paying a lower price and having a better quality treasure.
Pros: Large Selection
Cons: Terrible Customer Service, Suspect quality
I bought an engagement ring and wedding band at Americus a couple of months ago. As background, I also visited Jewelry stores at La Cantera (helzburg and Tiffany).
1. Outstanding selection - really the largest selection of engagement rings that you're going to find. I didn't realize how nice that was until we went to the smaller stores. It's organized smartly by metal (white gold, gold, platinum) then by style (solitaire, and the other kinds).
2. Sales people - When we first arrived we explained that we were just looking. I feel that sales people usually ignore if they don't think you'll be buying. It wasn't the case here though. Our sales person walked with us the entire 2.5 hours of our visit. Pulled out multiple (like more than 30) rings for my girlfriend to try on and the entire time was relaxed and not pushy. After working with us and seeing what rings we liked, she was able to anticipate and offer suggestions. I didn't feel like I was getting the hard sale or trying to be upsold. In contrast at a couple of other stores, I kept getting the used car salesmen vibe which I hate.
Even after I went back to buy the ring, I asked if I should upgrade the side stones. She told me they were plenty shiny and I don't need to upgrade. It was nice to hear that when you're nervous about to make a big purchase and hope you're buying something nice enough.
Anyway, she explained the 4C's of diamonds (maybe there's 5, I don't remember) and did not try to pressure the most expensive thing on us.
To address the review where they complained about incorrect info on the card....they write the information down right in front of you as you pick out which ring you would like. All I can say is that all my information was correct. The rings have serial numbers that they go by so it helps to just actually show up and point out the ring or know the serial number of the one you want if you're going to call in. It's not like you can call and say, please set aside the shiny one with diamonds that I looked at.
Anyway, I went back later by myself and bought the engagement ring and wedding band. I'm living overseas now so they are keeping it in the safe for free and safekeeping until I'm able to come back. I plan on buying the center diamond later to have it set.
Really the only cons I saw is that you have to send your ring in every 6 months for cleaning and maintenance in order to keep your warranty current. You get a freebie grace period if you're late on that 6 months. Really not a big deal if you live in San Antonio, but a little difficult if you don't.
Also, if you buy your center diamond somewhere else then they don't warranty the setting and all. Their prices for diamonds were very competitive so I don't see any reason to buy from a different store and not take the warranty in my case.
Also, just had to address one more thing in the other persons review. I work in medicine and have to deal with the ""customer service"" side of things with pushy patients and parents. When you are rude to people, it gives them less incentive to be nice to you. After the store explained the policy of not making bands with outside stones the other reviewer gave this response:
""So that was approved by the manager after some arm twisting and loud complaining.""
Loud Complaining - Loud complaining about a policy that is already in place is a little ridiculous in a jewelry store in my opinion. Especially before you've even bought the rings. If you wanted something like that, just go somewhere else. Anyway, she still bought her ring there....so...yeah.
Ok, that's all I got. I had a really good experience, had read these reviews before I went and thought I would contribute. I have no affiliation with Americus, I'm in the military, lived in San Antonio for 3 years and now I'm overseas.
Pros: Huge selection, No pressures sales people
Cons: Warranty slightly restrictive
I must agree with the last poster - all those positive reviews look FAKE! All the usernames are exactly the same layout.\r
Anyway, my fiance just purchased my ring at AD because I couldn't find what I wanted anywhere else. They do have a great selection of rings in many price ranges. I had gone to the store several times to find the right band. Once I picked the ring my fiance called the store to check on the price but they had multiple rings on my card (none of which were the ones I picked out.)\r
I then went to the store and luckily I knew which case it was in. I watched the rep scratch out all the other rings and hand write the correct band & price on my card. The very next day my fiance calls to make sure the right one is on my card. . . again at least 4 rings on my card none are the one I picked out! I had to go down there AGAIN to show them which one should be on my card and they had no explanation of why all those other rings were on my card.\r
We were only shopping for a band set because we already had the center stone (which they knew) - when we went in to purchase the bands they told us that they don't make bands for customers who bring in outside stones! WTF?! Your a jewerly store! Thats all you do is make rings!\r
So that was approved by the manager after some arm twisting and loud complaining. One sales lady in particular was VERY RUDE even rolling her eyes when we questioned their policy. When we told her our ""special order"" was approved by the manager she ROLLED HER EYES and walked off. She did not want to check with the manager, she doubled checked with another sales person.\r
Bottom line they have TERRIBLE customer service but a great selection of rings. We did buy our rings there afterall that but I am going to tell everyone how RUDE some of their sales staff are and how ridiculous their policies are. Beware of them telling you ""policies"" last minute and sales staff who DO NOT CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Pros: excellent selection
Cons: THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS EVER
First, I'd like to point out the trend in the usernames of ""customers"" writing other reviews...these are apparently fake usernames created by Americus Diamond employee or management! \r
Second, every time I've entered the store I've heard an angry customer practically shouting at the salesperson; this does not match up to the stellar reviews! \r
Finally, I'd like to warn people against trusting the quality of this store's jewelry. My husband purchased a wedding band 6 months ago with pave diamonds. Within a few months at least 3 of the diamonds had sunken into the setting! When we returned to exchange the item, we initially got no apology and no one admitted to the poor craftsmanship! Finally, the manager offered to ""lower"" the price of the plain platinum band that we grudgingly chose in order to make it an ""even"" trade. Well, this trade wasn't even AT ALL. We later found the same platinum band at other stores for half of the trade-in price! What a rip off! Do not waste your money here. You are better off going to a pricier store that has Quality jewelry!
Cons: Very Poor Quality
Americus Diamond was a wonderful experience for me. On my initial look for the perfect diamond at other stores, I found smaller selections and staffs that were more concerned about me buying the diamond that day than finding the perfect stone for my future wife. During my first visit to Americus Diamond I was suprised by the size of the store and how large the selection was. I was met by Mary, who took the time to educate me on what to look for in a diamond and began to show me a variety of diamonds. Since the employees are all paid a salary, I was never pressured to buy or make a decision while I was there. On my second visit I met with Mary again, and she patiently took the time to show me the different stones and wedding bands that would make the perfect ring for my future wife. Mary provided sound advice and had exceptional ideas while I created my future wife's ring. Most of all, we had a lot of fun throughout the process. Overall, my experience at Americus Diamond was excellent. The selection is second to none and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking to find the perfect ring in a relaxed atmosphere with people you can trust. I know that I found the perfect ring for my future wife and I can hardly wait to give it to her. Thanks Mary!
When we first came in, we were not even sure if we were going to buy anything. Mondelle was really honest with us, and told me when I was looking at a lower quality diamond. He was patient with us, in that we requested to see many diamonds that were in the back. He helped show us all the ranges and helped us stay in our price range. We ended up leaving with exactly what we wanted-- a perfect engagement ring! And a smile on our faces.
This place is awesome!! I've been to several other places looking for an engagement ring and no one made me feel so ""at home"" and comortable. There was no hasseling or pressuring what-so-ever. I was helped by a wonderful young lady named Erin who did everything she could to help find me the right ring. She was also very knowledgeable about the products that we saw and was able to give me all the specifics about each item that we saw. I would recommend this place to anyone.
As a first time buyer of an engagement ring, I was fairly nervous about the whole process. Thankfully, the associate was friendly and knowledgeable, and helped put my anxiety at ease. I felt comfortable through the entire process and purchased a beautiful piece that my fiance (soon-to-be) will enjoy for the rest of her life. I couldn't have asked for anything more. Thanks!
As a lifelong native of San Antonio, I remember first seeing the Americus Diamond sign on the North East side of San Antonio some time in the mid- 1980?s. As long as I?ve had knowledge of the term ?fine jewelry,? Americus Diamond has defined and surpassed it?s meaning. Always knowledgeable, always ready to educate someone on the details of diamond grading, and always as flawless on prices as the gems they sell. Quite simply, when it comes to diamonds, there is no other.
What an amazing experience! We were guided and informed throughout the process of choosing an engagement ring so that there was no doubt that we found exactly what we wanted. The willingness of the sales staff to match our desired set with the perfect stone made the process more personal than past experiences. The no pressure sales approach suited us perfectly. Thank you, Steve, for your expertise.
Americus Diamond in San Antonio has a beautiful facility. The staff is always courteous, friendly and efficient. I purchased my engagement ring and wedding band from Americus Diamond twenty-three years ago, in October 1985. The lifetime warranty is an absolute plus!! I live 50 miles away, but still come in every six months to get my rings cleaned and checked. Again, this is a great facility with wonderful personnel. It's no surprise that it is so successful in San Antonio.
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted and educated on how to choose a diamond. Steve was very helpful in assisting us in choosing an engagement ring. We liked the large selection of jewelry and the atmosphere. I was very impressed with the prices! I was expecting to pay a lot more, but Americus Diamond's prices were very reasonable. Steve was very patient and understanding, and I appreciate the fact that we left without telling him, and returned a couple hours later and he still had the ring we wanted in his pocket! My overall experience with Americus Diamond was one that I will never forget and I will enthusiastically recommend my friends to come here.
Our experience at Americus Diamond was easy and fun! We want to thank Henry for all of his help and for his help and his patience, as it took us a while and a few visits before we-- without a doubt-- knew Americus Diamond was our way to go. They were so fast with sizing and their hospitality every time we were there was great! We felt so at home and comfortable throughout our decision process. Gracias por todo y continue con su gran servicio.
Mondelle was very helpful with his knowledge. He was very patient and made us feel appreciated. There was never any rush or pressure to buy. He showed us plenty of diamonds under the microscope and helped us find the perfect diamond. Mondelle was always very courteous, respectful, kind and helped us with a smile. Thank you Mondelle and Americus Diamond. You made us feel at home. Compared to other jewelry stores, you guys are top of the line!
Americus Diamond is fabulous!! Karen was my sales representative when I got engaged two years ago, and she was here when I walked back in recently to buy my wedding ring with my fiance. She not only remembered us both, but continued to help us with our choice of band. She is such an asset to Americus Diamond in her friendliness and professionalism. And to the rest of the staff, I included my compliments... All very friendly and considerate. Thank you!
