I have nothing but good things to say about the fine folks at H.O.W. foundation. Courteous and thoroughly professional from my first phone contact to the completion of a major tree removal and pruning project at my property in Luling, TX.

As a former resident of the How Foundation, you need to know some things. I went to them not only once, but three times. That's right, my addiction was that bad, but when I called they came for me. We worked hard, idle minds go to bad

The HOW Foundation was contacted concerning clearing a portion of my land of Cedar trees. Their response was immediate, and the estimate reasonable. They showed up on the date agreed upon, did the work needed on time and were complete professionals. I strongly recommend them and will use their services again.

Pros: Excellent work

Cons: None

.

I contacted the HOW foundation two weeks ago to have some tree branches removed that were against my upstairs bedroom windows and the roof. I scheduled the estimate appointment for last Saturday. The staff at the office was very pleasant and professional to deal with. The person who came out for the estimate was also very friendly and gave me a very competitive estimate. The actual trimming appointment was scheduled for this morning. The three workers who came over were on time and completed the work within just a few hours. They did excellent work. The branches, some of which were very large, were cut up and loaded onto their trailer immediately. They cleaned everything up before they left. I am very impressed with their speed and professionalism. I will definitely use the HOW foundation again should I need more trees trimmed.

Save your time and money. Signed a contract and paid 1/2 down (over $350). Was told I would be scheduled by telephone. Earliest date to get the work done was over 6 weeks away. Told them that was not satisfactory. Finally got the work scheduled sooner and took parts of 3 days to do the actual work. This was a 2/3 day job. Over 1 week later after completion I am still waiting to get the materials off my lawn and chipped and hauled off. I have lost over 50 square yards of lawn because the grass has been covered and has died. I get a different excuse every day and still cannot get the job finished because they demand their money as soon as the work is finished even though they have not chipped it and hauled it off. The foundation may be good but the office people do not know what they are doing. The men that came out and did the actual work did an excellent job but I would not recommend the HOW Foundation to anyone.

Pros: Good workers

Cons: Poor scheduling, do not show up when agreed, have not finished the job even though paid in full.

Although I believe the intention of the program is very good, their accounting practices are so offensive and out of line, I cannot recommend them. The crew showed up an hour late yesterday and left an hour early, which equated to 4 hours of work instead of 6, which was what the contract stated. I told the supervisor in Schertz that it was not a big deal if we could adjust the price the next day at the end of the job.

The crew worked the contracted 6 hours the next day. When I called the office to let them know my calculations as far as the reduction in price, we could not reach an agreement. Apparently my $600 down payment went out the window in this scenario and I was told to divide the remaining cost of one day's labor ($486) by 6 to get the equivalent of 2 hours pay, and subtract that amount. Using this twisted math I was only overcharged $100 but I guess what bothers me is that it added insult to injury. Their prices are much higher than what I've paid in the past and I find it offensive that they wouldn't let me postdate my check for 2 days, yet they cashed my $600 deposit 2 weeks before the work commenced!! I got the impression I was being done a big favor to have the final amount due reduced at all. Although they offered to come out again for a couple of extra hours in the future, I declined. Not interested in any future dealings. It's a principle thing. On the bright side, the guys who did the work were pleasant and got the job done. I have no complaint with the office staff either. It's the overall accounting policies that I believe need to be reviewed if they want word of mouth to contribute to the success of this business. If the experience I described above doesn't sound out of line to you and you just want to help these guys in their effort to better themselves, I'd recommend them, because it does seem like a good idea; it just needs some polishing.

We employed the HOW Foundation earlier this week to remove a very dead tree from between two houses. Their quote was 25% cheaper than the average quote we received and included no additional for tax as the other qoutes did. They also said that 50% of the price was tax deductible. We called to accept the quote and were scheduled for the following morning. They didn't call when deciding to postpone their arrival due to heavy winds, but still completed the job before the end of the day which didn't create a problem as we were home anyway. The crew of two worked efficiently, first removing part of a privacy fence, then removing the tree, and finally replacing the fence. We are pleased with the work and very happy with the price.

The 2 guys that came out to give me an estimate were VERY professional and very polite. They gave me a price on site and I told them I would have to think about it and get back to them. Within 30 minutes, I received a call from a supervisor or sales person in the office, who took about 30% off the total price if I could commit that day. I was able to and miraculously, they were able to start the work the very next day. He asked if they could spread the work out over a week or more and I told them that was okay. As it turns out, they had a "cancellation" for the next day, so came out on Sunday and FINISHED THE JOB. They cleaned everything up and hauled it all away for a great price. The only negative thing that happened was a car window was broken in the hauling off process and we are currently awaiting the decision on if they are going to pay for it or not, as there were no witnesses. The cost of the window is far less than the discount I received so all in all, I am still pleased with the work they did.

Pros: Great cause, price

Cons: Resolving minor issue afterwards

Paid 50% at time of estimate. Scheduled more than a month later. First crew came out and worked 3 hours and left. Customer service told me job was bigger than expected. They showed 8 days later and left in less than 4 hours. Same excuse. Three trees to cut. Only 1-1/2 done. Don't know when they'll be back. Cut branches all over yard and on top of house. Save your money. The savings are not worth the anguish.

What a rip-off. The How Foundation showed up and did our evaluation. We arrived at a price and they took 50% at that point as "a deposit." They called a few days later and set the date of our work for MORE THAN A MONTH AWAY. Since then, they have cancelled on us and have rescheduled us. In the meantime, half the branches they were going to remove have fallen on their own, causing US to do the work ourselves. Still haven't come out to work on our trees and there's no way we can get our deposit back. Go with a more reputable company and forget HOW.
