I can't recommend this school. The classroom instruction was fine, but scheduling driving times is absolutely horrible. I will not use this school for my younger kids when they are ready for their permit.

This school is run by very caring, hard working people. All the instructors have college degrees and most are coaches (current/past). They care about the education of these new young driving teens and their safety. They truly want the teens to repect the laws to reduce tickets/collisions.

One instructor told them "If you want to play games, go to the football field, soccer field or volleyball court, but NOT behind the wheel in the car-Always follow the laws for your safety and for those in the community."

Scheduling is convenient, on the computer, but challenging due to limiting only one week in advance for booking a drive time, but if you call they will help you achieve your need. The staff is truly efficient and accommodating. Thanks Longhorn for your patience in helping all of us through this journey!!!

Our son attended a different driving school that was dirty and poorly run so we were dreading going through the experience with our daughter. A friend recommended Longhorn Driving School so I called to begin the process to see if we wanted to send our daughter there. We have been completely satisfied with their professionalism and ability to communicate and answer any questions we might have. Drive times have been very easy to schedule and last but not least the school is clean, comfortable and welcoming. I would not hesitate to recommend Longhorn Driving School.

My son just finished his driving requirements with Longhorn Driving School. Someone mentioned to me about the remarks on this site so I checked it out. I want to say "Thank You" to Longhorn Driving School by writing my own thoughts. The service at this school was really outstanding. We have experienced two other driving schools in Texas with my other kids...one was out of town and the other was another local school. I can tell you that Longhorn stands far and above the other schools with their service to our family. And about the scheduling...finding drive times to fit our special needs has been the greatest challenge at all of the driving schools we have used. At Longhorn, all we had to do was follow the directions that were plainly given as to how and when to find drive times. It worked for us. We had a problem only one time, and when we phoned the office, they helped us work it out. We especially appreciated the professionalism of every driver. My son is driving now with great skill. Thank you, Longhorn Driving School!

My daughter recently attended LDS... the classroom training was fine.... but watch out when it comes to trying to book the actual in car drive time training.... you HAVE to be in front of a computer at a certain time and day of the week, or forget it ASK FIRST Even if you can do that, the times disappear so fast... In six weeks, I was able to book ONE Lesson, which was a time someone else cancelled.

In contrast, I then went to AUSTIN DRIVING SCHOOL. They have an "old fashioned" phone in system. NO PROBLEM BOOKING DRIVE TIMES!! The first week took 8 minutes to get through and book, the second week I got in on one ring of my first try !!! AND, they have leftover times as they have numerous teachers.

My oldest son went to Longhorn Driving under the old management and we never had a problem. The "new" owners are really great too and my daughter went there this past summer. My biggest issue is scheduling the drive time. My daughter finished up the classroom part in mid-August and has not yet had a chance to drive! Nothing is ever open....... I am very frustrated, and so is she, because she feels like she is forgetting information because she cannot utilize it. I have called twice before about this situation and was very patient and understanding, and I am placing a call today about the hinky system they use. If I do not get a good response, I will be back on here later today with an update..........

6 months ago we moved from Dallas to Pflugerville and started searching for driving school for myself. I am 37 years old and had no experience about driving back in my country, my husband thought me how to drive for a while but getting lessons from family member is not always the best thing to do. I am nervous about driving so I need a professional one to get me thru all this fear . I searched and searched and searched? I checked their reviews before I even make a call.

A lot of driving schools out there and they have their own real reviews from real people who had their lessons from them. Upon reading reviews, called several places for an instructor from the search results and fortunately I got connected with a nice and very accommodating lady at Longhorn Driving School. At first I am hesitant to call them because they have bad reviews year 2008 but I call them anyway just to give it a try.

AND THIS IS I FOUND OUT AFTER MY PRODUCTIVE AND VERY EXCITING LESSONS WITH LONGHORN DRIVING SCHOOL.. ( CEDAR PARK AND GEORGETOWN ) ABOUT THE BAD REVIEWS: DISREGARD THEM BECAUSE?.

NOTE: THIS IS THE REALITY, LONGHORN DRIVING SCHOOL NOW IS UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT ALL BAD REVIEWS LAST YEAR ARE RESULTS OF THE OLD MANAGEMENT THAT HIRED A RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTOR. THE NEW MANAGEMENT NEED TO WAIT FOR A BOUT A MONTH BEFORE THEY CAN TERMINATE THE OLD INSTRUCTOR EMPLOYMENT BECAUSE IT IS AGAINST THE LAW NOT TO GIVE UNQUALIFIED EMPLOYEE A MONTH OF TIME TO LOOK FOR A NEW JOB. GOOD THING THE NEW MANAGEMENT OF LONGHORN WAS ABLE TO FIX THAT PROBLEM AND THEY GAVE THAT BAD INSTRUCTOR A CONSIDERATION LET HIM STAY FOR A MONTH TO PUT HIS SELF TOGETHER AND BE A BETTER INSTRUCTOR, WELL WHO KNOWS WHAT HAPPEN TO THAT RUDE INSTRUCTOR. THE GOOD THING IS MIKE HARDY TOOK OVER THE JOB AND HE IS THE BEST EVER DRIVING INSTRUCTOR THAT YOU COULD EVER HAVE. HE WILL WORK WITH YOU ALL THE WAY AND?.NEW MANAGEMENT IS EXCELLENT AND THEY ARE NICE PEOPLE INCLUDING THEIR STAFF.

IT??S NOT ALL ABOUT ?? YOU PAYING THEM IT IS THEM GET YOU THERE AND MAKE YOU A BETTER DRIVER ??

I am lucky to come across with Mike Hardy definitely the BEST INSTRUCTOR that could have for. The wife of Mike Hardy who took my call that day was very friendly and polite. That alone made me decided to make an appointment with them and everything is history on how I successfully got my DRIVER??S LICENSE.

LONGHORN QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Professional, Patience, Cool, Respectful instructor ( Mike Hardy )
2. Reasonable Fee
3. Flexible Schedules
4. Good Staff
5. Nice Car
6. Very detailed and extensive 4 lessons
7. Tips on how to deal with the test
8. Actual Practice of Test
9. Motivational Skills
10. Very effective preparation before the test
11. Detailed Instructions on what to do
12. Organized Paper Works and Documentation
13. Name it and they have it.

I made a lot of mistakes during my last practice before the test because I am really nervous that time, I am the first one to take the test and at about around 9:15 am. I need to be in line, my heart really beating so fast but Mike gave me the confidence and told me that everything is going to be alright. It is all with you when you are about to take the test but you will going to be fine if you will make yourself relax and remember what Mike thought you in the practice. And by the way take your test at DPS-Georgetown TX because the testing area is friendly than the one in Research Blvd. and the examiner ( Jane ) is really nice and gentle.

I want to thank you Mike for being part of my journey in getting my Drivers License. I had a very exciting and excellent experience with you. If you need Driving lessons don??t even think twice call them right away and they will take care of you.

We moved to Austin and searching for driving school for my wife. She had a little experience about driving, but very nervous for driving. I called several places for an instructor from the search results and fortunately got connected with a lady at Longhorn Driving School. She took my phone number and told about Mike.

Mike called me and we discussed about my wife driving lessons. He assured me - within 4 lessons - your wife will get license. I was surprised, but told him to come for the first day. He drove all the way to our Southwest Austin apartment from Cedar Park, and took her to the freeway. I was sitting back and scared a little bit. For the very first lesson - she had a very good experience and confidence. Mike is very patience, cool, and good standard of teaching. Next time, we went to Georgetown DPS and had a practice of actual test. We had another session and finally on 4th day, my wife passed the test and got license. Many thanks Mike for your help!

Excellent sums it all! My wife went to this school and she liked everyone very much. I also dealt with Mike and Barbara, and they are very nice people. Mike took my wife to far away DMV for driving test even thought we had one 4miles away...without any question. We also came to know that almost all old people are out...especially Horton. Good for everyone!

I would definitely recommend them.

Here we go again. This is the second time Ive seen this while searching for a school. I would think that this website should be careful about allowing posts attacking specific names in public. I am just checking things out and it seems aweful brave of this website to allow specific names seeing that other reputable sites dont allow this. Brave on your part is all I can say. I rated a 3 since I haven't went through this training but it seems strange that the one ratings here are more of a personal attack versus helpful facts.

Hey, idiot, you can't speak for the people that had the experience with Horton Fat A**, you were not there!!! So, how dare you make assumptions about things that you have no clue about, you think people are making things up? What a fool, that is why this guy has had more than one complaint filed against him, do your research, before commenting on something you know nothing about LOSER!!! This guy is a a friggin weirdo and people comment because that is what this site is for (that is what review means moron), in order to, inform others of a potential threat and awareness.

People have a right to voice their complaints, especially parents!!! There is no getting over it, people should know the good and bad and it their choice as to where they want to spend their money and put their kids. It is called an informed decision, that is why you should call TEA to investigate the school (any school) and if there are any complaints with the instructors!!! It is the parents job to make sure thier kids are not being mistreated and being taken advantgage of; so you kids that are responding about how great this school is, that is fine, you had a great experience and that is your opinion-but keep in mind that people that have had bad experiences they have that same right to voice their concerns. So, for those people that had issues with this instructor it is your duty as parents to post comments in order to make other parents aware of the situation. I would never risk placing my child in a potential uncomfortable situation no matter how great people think this guy is, there is enough complaints against this guy and school that I would never put my child in this school.

This was probably the best driving school I could have picked. My brother did the at home driving and ti was extremely time consuming so I took the class. It took me less time to do it and i loved the school itself. Mr. Horton was an amazing instructor. Unlike other instructors i have heard about, he didn't yell at all. He made small talk and made it a comfortable enviorment so i wasn't tense or scared at all. I looked forward to driving because of him. And the new owners Mike and Barbara are super sweet. They really turned it into an great business. Its a welcoming place. A few people i know that go there now say that they are mean which is so not true! I go back ta visit Mr. Horton, Mike, and Barbara all the time! So take your child to Longhorn Driving School!!!!!

Of the people writing bad reviews; you must realize that the first day you walk to their class room they actually say that they ARE going to treat you like adults, that driving school is not a regular school class room and they really dont care if you cus. On the note of Mr. Horton he is a very nice man if you actually talk to him. If your a female, he might tease you about a boy or something but who was the one that told him about the boy in the first place??? YOU! Yes he might make you stop by sonic or mc.Donalds but whose complaining? You get a few free minutes to chill instead of non-stop driving. If you don't like this school or the instructors GET OVER IT! Don't go complaining to everyone else about it.

I went to this school when the old owners ran it, so I can only speak to my experience. It was an horrible experience!!! The owner would throw things during the classroom portion and use the "F" word to the class, it was not professional at all. I drove with a Mike and he was ok, but I also drove with Horton and he had inappropriate conversations with us, it freaked me out and asked not to drive with him. Horton is weird and should no be around us (students), maybe the new owners has a talk with him and he may have changed, but that is a chance you have to take, if you want to drive with him. The school was not awesome when I went there, things may have changed.

i am a student that went to longhorn driving school, and i just have to say that, i loved it, and i really can't say that i have anything bad to say about it. I saw a comment, or paragraph that was made about an instructor, and i have to say that he is nothing like that. (mr.horton)And i actually loved driving with him, and all the instructors. You shouldn't think twice on this driving school, it's the one. Oh and one more thing, Horton Horton he's our man if he can't teach us, no one can:) Go longhorn driving school!

Pros: Their friendliness, and service.

Cons: Scheduling driving times.

.

Well, Horton (hears a donut), fat a**, always had a taste for donuts and it was during our driving time never with extra time to spare. My parents did not pay for him to stuff his fat face. And he is a perv. he asked all kinds of personal questions, he is a freak. I don't care about the people with positive reviews, there are more negatives than postives about this place, especially with the fat instructor. I tell all my friends not to go there, go to another driving school. People should take the negatives about this school very seriously. I have a brother that will be driving soon and my parents will not be going back to longhorn.

I myself went to Longhorn, Half the time the old management was there, and then halfway through the knew people, mike and barbara took over. You couldnt ask for nicer people! I loved my experience there, i admit, the beginning owners were pretty rough. But thats all in the past. And as for the fact of Mr. Horton, the "Obese" one, He is amazing aswell! I always requested to drive with him. Yes, he had a love for donuts, but he alway's made sure we got in all the driving time we were supposed to. The donut Trips were only when we had time to spare, and he would alway's treat us right. I NEVER had a problem with him trying to get into my personal business, either. I absolutly love the new atmosphere of the building, the new owners made it much more comforting and clean. And of course, theres always that schedualing problem, but wherever you go you will have to wait, its how life is. Learn to be patient people, its not like you cant wait 5 minutes. I think the new management is doing a fantastic job, and i highly recommend sending your children there. I even go back to visit weekly!

Pros: Great Instructors, Pick up from school, breaks during class, Good teaching

Cons: Full parking lot.

Here is the problem with this school-they won't fire this instructor!!! They are still part of the problem, by not getting rid of this guy!!! I don't care how accomodating they are, they still are still employing a potential danger and that is never acceptable. If they want to make changes GET RID OF THIS GUY and fast, people don't want him and people ask for their kids not to drive with him!! So what is the problem with the new owners? Why are they keeping him employed, the new owners are just as bad as the instructor for their lack of action by still having him employed!!!

My oldest son attended Longhorn driving three years ago and we had a GREAT experience. They would let a student drive to our house (which was close at that time to the Anderson Mill classroom), pick him up, let him do his driving and then drop him off and let another student do his/her driving back to the classroom. However, this past year my youngest son attended the one in Cedar Park and it was a nightmare at first. NOW, it's a different story. THE NEW OWNERS are showing that they care and are willing to do what is right, and their concern is more than "just the money". WE ARE VERY HAPPY TO GET "J" BACK IN SO HE CAN FINISH!!! A Very Happy Mom! I would highly recommend Longhorn Driving, Cedar Park, TX

Avoid Longhorn at all costs. If you have any kind of a life and can't be by the phone on Tuesday to call hundreds of times, you aren't going to get driving time Also, the new owners defense of the driving instructor who is getting a little too personal is ridiculous--and dangerous. There is a reason this guy is asking these questions, and it can't be a good one. Austin Driving School can be difficult to get driving time, too, but they don't have a six-month contract they hold over your head. Go there!

I hope the new owners change things, someone needs to step up and get a handle on things. These are kids and not adults and should be treated as such. The instructors also need to remember that these are kids and should not be treated in a demeaning way.

Pros: NONE

Cons: EVERYTHING

Nothing but lies from the new owner, nothing has changed the same people are still there running the school, I just finished from there. Joining Longhorn driving school was the worst decision I took. The instructors are rude ,they have no patience and they insult you at every opportunity they get. They humiliate you and act as if they are doing a huge favor by teaching you how to drive. So don't make the same mistake as I did.OPT FOR ANOTHER SCHOOL!!..

To the forum site manager....please consider placing our response first for others to read. Thank you.

Longhorn Driving School is now under new ownership as of June 1, 2008. The incident that is discussed in the negative review of our school was throughly investigated by us, the new owners. We believe there always 2 sides to any situation and we investigated both sides. Our instructors are of the highest moral standards and to indicate otherwise is untruthful.

This website is new to us; and looks to be a worthwhile forum for us to discover the good and the bad of this fair city area. We are proud to be new members of this community. We are dedicated, newly-retired public school teachers with many years of experience in both the class room and driver education programs. We pride ourselves in working with students and parents of the community in the most positive manner.. If you have experienced any negative incident in the past from this school, we offer apology and hope that we can build your confidence in our school.

We pride ourselves in being a Driver's Education school where we give instruction for a lifetime of safe driving. We care about our students...not just our school. Please drop by our school at 600 South Bell, Cedar Park; and our second location at 1911 North Austin in Georgetown if you have any questions for us.
Thank you for your reviews.

Never use this school if you are concerned about your child. I had similar experience with the same instructor being referred to in a previous review and will also be filing a complaint. Thanks for the information on how to go about lodging a complaint and with whom. This instructor has inappropriate discussions with the kids. He discusses his marital woes and told the kids if they brought him cookies that they would get a perfect score, he also asked questions about our family, questioned their weight (I never heard of such a thing coming from an instructor), etc...

His behavior is odd as best and should be reviewed. I am not sure if they do background checks on these people. I also think they are all connected by family or really good friends, so the owners are not correcting the situation only enabling.

Very concerned parent.

My daughter had problem with one of the instructors (the obese one), he was asking her personal questions and made demeaning remarks about her, totally unprofessional!!! The instructor was more worried about getting donuts than driving. I filed a complaint with TEA (they license driving schools) regardind the conduct of this instructor. If there is a complaint send it to TEA so than can log the complaints that is the only way things will change. If you complain to the school nothing will get done. Here is what should be done.

COMPLAINTS

If you believe that a driver training class was presented inappropriately, either due to its content, its presentation, a reduced class length, or instructor misconduct, please contact the Driver Training Investigative Unit at Jim.Crenshaw@tea.state.tx.us or call (512) 936-6777, or send a fax to (512) 936-6799. A general complaint form in Microsoft Word format is at www.tea.state.tx.us /drive/Complaint.doc and a PDF version of a general complaint form is at www.tea.state.tx.us /drive/complaint.pdf .

Pros: None

Cons: Instructor-one in particular, management did nothing about his conduct

First, the Cedar Park receptionist is rude and unprofessional. Second, make sure your kid gets the grades from the instructor.... they DO NOT tell you when they are failing and need more drive time. Third, you are treated as if you owe them something or they are doing you a favor. PICK ANOTHER SCHOOL!!!

The instructors are pretty good. They got my stubborn kiddo to listen to them! I've read other comments regarding the timing of the appointment scheduling. This type of system is the "norm". I have had really good luck getting appointments that fit our schedule and it was always done with a single phone call on Tuesday afternoon. (No redial necessary) I tried Longhorn after using Austin Driving School with my two oldest kids and in my opinion, Longhorn is definitely the better choice!! I think Longhorn hires a higher quality behind the wheel instructor and that is very much worth my driving a little farther to get to them. I have just signed up my youngest son (out of 5 kids) and have had no concerns with the way this business is run.

OK, so the classroom part is good enough. But man, when it came to the driving part, it was a pain! They have a crazy system where you have to call in on a certain morning at a certain time. Problem is, everyone else is doing the same thing, and by the time you get through to them (think redial 50 to 60 times), you're told they're booked, try back next week!

Crazy!

Is this any way to spend your time ------- or money?????

I enrolled my teenager at Longhorn Driving School because it was close to her high school, Westwood High. Seemed like a great idea: She could walk over to the school after classes ended at Westwood. Seemed like a good idea in plan; execution is another matter.

If inconvenience and caprice are appealing to you, then you just might find this drivers education school acceptable. In-class sessions are uneventful and run of the mill, like every other school.

It's when the behind-the-wheel segment of the course begins that you will experience frustration and misery trying to schedule appointments. You see, you must call in at 10 a.m. every Thursday to receive an appointment for the following week. If you don't call in, no appointment. If you are too late calling in, no appointment. If you request a series of standing appointments because calling in each Thursday at 10 a.m. is not always feasible, it's a no-go. Ridiculous? Absolutely.

So unless you have the time and determination to redial their phone number constantly for up to an hour every Thursday morning, you are better off choosing another drivers education school. By the way: even if you do start dialing at 10 a.m. that won't guarantee you an appointment for the following week. If their schedule fills up, then you are out of luck ..... until the following week, when the 10 a.m. dial-in lottery begins again.

For the amount of money spent on these courses (which is pretty uniform across the board, I found), pick another school that is more professionally run, consistent, and values your time as much as their own.
