Great loft experience!

.

-Painted walls white for us before moving in (previous renters left yellow paint on walls) didn't use anything to cover the floor, paint drips all over the floor. Didn't touch up base boards before we moved in, when asked if they would, they just gave us a cup of paint. Wow.\r\n-Guest bathroom constantly smells like mold. They say there's nothing they can do about it!!! Seems like most of their excuse is that the building is ""old"".\r\n-Expect a high electricity bill because the windows leak air and are not ""energy efficient"". Always felt draft even when they came and added foam material at bottom of window. If you don't completely lock the windows during a bad rain storm, rain WILL come in and ruin anything around the window. Also when it was winter storms, a layer of ice froze on the inside of my windows and then melted leaving the wood around the window nasty. \r\n-Steped on rusty nail that was lodged between the floor boards. Glad my son never crawled on one! Found 4 more that I had to use a knife to get out. \r\n-Unless a previous renter updated the kitchen, you would think that spending this much to live here would give you a nicer upgraded kitchen...think again! NOT WORTH having cabinets with no hardware, chipped paint (they expect you to fix) and cheap counter tops. Light fixtures are ghetto. Had to buy nicer ones and installed. Of course we took them when we left and replaced it back to the ghetto lights. \r\n- Was surrounded by businesses. They did not tell us that we would be living by people who run businesses out of their lofts. Some don't even live there! It's like paying to live in a strip mall! Constant slamming doors and random people in the halls. \r\n-Constantly smells like wet cigars down in basement near the bar. Thought it was cool living somewhere with a bar downstairs but it just brings the wrong kind of crowd.\r\n-Constant traffic due to concert venue's if a concert is letting out, get ready for honking, yelling, loud music from cars and people who don't see you crossing the street. Can't tell you how many times me and my son almost got hit by cars just crossing the street. Also out by the parking, Austin street is used by people with dogs use it as a dog run. They take their dogs off their leash and let them run free. Constantly smells like dog pee and it's worse when it get's hot outside. People don't clean up after their dog and there's usually dog poop in the halls. Almost steped in dog throw up in the hall!\r\n -Security is a JOKE. Don't be fooled when the leasing agent points out that they have 24/7 secutity. They don't lock the doors around the building so using a key card only works when trying to go up the service elevator. All the ""guards"" do is hang out on the street corner. They pay these guys in yellow shirts to just stand around. My grandmother was visiting and took a photo of my son outside before she left and one of the ""security guards"" (older white guy) yelled at us because we were on South Side property and a part of the building was in the background. I asked him if my 80 year old grandmother looks like a professional photographer and all he could say was that in our lease we agreed not to take photos on property or with anything in the background. (Pretty sure he didn't like us because of the color of our skin.) Seriously? I'd understand if it was a pro photographer but it was my GRANDMOTHER! Guess they don't teach these guys to treat ladies with respect. Also on that note, there was many times I'd walk from the parking lot at night and you would think these guys would escort or even watch to make sure you make it inside okay... could care less. Parking lot is dark. Not enough light. \r\nVery dissapointed with this expereience. They're just out to make money off people.

The leasing office staff has been horrendous to work with. When going to the office we were looked at as if we were stealing the staffs precious time. It took us 3 months to get air conditioning filters replaced in our apartment. We had issues when getting Dish installed. We were told by the office that we were allowed to have satellite. The office told Dish they were not allowed to install. The office staff seem to lack the knowledge necessary to provide accurate and appropriate answers or direction to the tenets of SSOL. They are quick to offer excuses or pass you on to someone else. The manager of the office has been referred to in derogatory terms by her staff when she is not around she is quite the ""witch."" There is a lack of respect in the office between the staff members which carries onto the residents. \n

Pros: conveniently located, amenities, good neighbors

Cons: expensive parking, not helpful staff, not enough elevators
