My wife had dental work done on 09/05/2012 at Blue Stone Dental. We selected Blue Stone Dental because they were contracted with Cigna Dental and based on reviews looked like a fantastic place to have work dental work done. Prior to the service we were given a scope of dental work of what would be necessary to solve for the dental challenges my wife had at that time. Not until the actual time of service, did the dentist decided to do a sinus augmentation.

We were not aware or notified by the dental staff that this possibly might not be covered under their dental insurance. We only became aware of this when they received their explanation of benefits stating that Benefits are not provided for services considered medical in nature. Please submit to your medical carrier for possible payment.

It took me reaching out to a 3rd party company that specializes in solving insurance claims to discover that the dentist could have filed a medical claim as opposed to a dental claim. The claim was finally submitted by the provider to the medical carrier and the claim was processed out-of-network. All applying to the our out-of-network deductible, due to the provider being out of network for medical. If we would have known from the start that the procedure was medical in nature they we would have selected an in-network specialist through Cigna to do the extensive dental work.

In addition, in February of this past year we went in for the second part of the procedure at that time we had switched insurance carriers (United) and were informed by the dentist that 0% of the work completed would be covered. Given that we were halfway done through a major procedure we sucked it up and decided to pay out of pocket Not until I logged into our health insurance site weeks later did I note that a claim had never even been filed therefore there was no telling what would have been covered or not. I reached out to Bluestone and they proceeded to inform me that they had a glitch in their system and did not submit a claim. Again, another instance where if it weren't for me being diligent with my medical bills would I have ever noticed.

The initial claim was finally processed by Cigna on the 18th of March literally 6 months later. Bluestone Dental informed me that even though this was now accepted they could not deliver reimbursement until they were paid by Cigna. Overall, there really has been no intent or effort to make this right by this practice and will not return and would not recommend this practice.

I've gone to Keller Family Dental for a year. They are friendly, on time, and work well with my insurance company. I've had both dentists work on me and both made me feel comfortable. The have state of the art equipment and are constructing a new building at the same site. The only way I could rate higher is if they had weekend or evening hours. If you need a dentist, call them!
