Multiple poor experiences
by M .
Had a burn that was terrible, nurses would not even put ice on it. The burn was aggravated by the bad care they gave me. When I left Winchester Hospital, I went to Brigham and Womens about 1 hour later since I knew something was wrong. B&W was appalled that WH left me out of their care. They said that I had the choice of being put into a coma, and needed multiple skin grafts. This is the burn that WH said was nothing, and left me with no care in their ER for 3 hours until they basically just discharged me. Similarly, my husband had an intestinal blockage, and he was just sent home with no care. he had to go to Brighan and Women's the next day to get care.Wht I know from these experiences: do NOT go to Winchester Hospital. It takes literally 15 minutes to travel the 11 miles to go to MGH, why wouldn't you?

Beware of the ER!!!
by Susan P.
There is a serious problem in radiology, as no less than 3 of my family have had broken bones (in one case, a broken NECK) that was missed -- how the hell do you miss a broken bone?? Three strikes and they're out -- the rest of the hospital might be terrific but the ER is a danger. Be extremely careful!

Worst experience ever! Winchester ER
by Clement B.
Winchester ER has the worst staff ever. As a family member of someone admitted through the ER I have never been treated so poorly before. I was told to go away and to shut up by one Dr, while the other Dr told me he did not care that my girlfriend was in pain. Obviously there is more to the story, but to be treated this way by Drs and the staff is never acceptable.

ER is horrible / Maternity is wonderful
by b b.
The ER has misdiagnosed both a broken foot - it was broken right in half! causing near surgery and six months in a cast due to a delay in treatment! and a fractured clavicle (for which there is no treatment but it would have been nice to know...)
However, I gave birth to two children there and had a wonderful experience.

Very Good

I delivered two of my children in this hospital and found it great several years ago. Within the last year my father had a heart attack and being in his eighty's we had great concern for him. But he made out just fine and everyone at the hospital was just great.

reply to April 19 2007 Er Staff
by William C.
I am sorry that you experinced what you state as poor Quailty care. As a past employee of Winchester Hosp. Security Officer I have nothing but high Praise for the Staff in the Emergency Room . I worked with these fine people on the 10pm to 8am shift four to five nights a week from 2001-2002. I will admit times can be hetic. but they are or were never rude.I understand the feelings of the families involved with obtaining care in that situation

Winchester Hospital-delivery and special care nursery-excellent!
by Anonymous
I have delivered both my son and daughter at this hospital and we all had excellent care. My care was terrific, the L&D nurses are great. My children were both preemies and had extended stays in the special care nursery (SCN). The staff there is friendly, patient and very caring, I wouldn't hesitate to send anyone else to deliver at the hospital.

Winchester Hospital ER—rude, unresponsive, downright appalling
by k d.
April, 19, 2007
My father was brought to ER for Pneumonia.
They put him in a freezing cold room for 5 hours. The staff was slow and rude to say the least.
I had asked them to turn down the AC which they said they would do. Nothing!. They said they would get my father an oxygen mask at 12: 30. I had to chase down the nurse Denise an hour later. There was another family there who I walked by when the daughter was calling out for help for her mother ..I think she thought i was a doctor or nurse.
The point is that nobody was responding to her desperate cry for help. There were 4-6 women standing around chatting like it was their lunch break. I understand that they deal with this day-to-day so they are insensitive to families who are in distress over their loved ones suffering but this was down right appalling! At one point they were standing outside of my father's bay chatting so loudly i had to close the curtain and ask them to move it somewhere else.
For a "Magnet" hospital I was shocked. It was the worst experience my father has ever had in a hospital. I had to leave for 2 hours and that is when things got worse. They treated his with disrespect. I won't go into the details but as soon as i was gone they shoved him around like he was a piece of luggage. I wish there was a way to report the staff.
A woman named Denise was particularly rude and she should be fired for her behavior.
Maybe they are better at delivering babies but please do not send an elderly person to Winchester Hospital in Massachusetts!
Choose another ER hospital if you can.

My wife delivered our last child here and the staff was excellent. we arrived without a moment to spare and the nurses did everything to make my wife comfortable. You could see how well the staff worked together and coordinated with the doctors. Delivery staff was excellent.
The maternity ward is state of the art with a video surveliance system/door bell to ring to get in. Great neo natal unit. The rooms are very roomy and the service you receive from everyone is fantastic. We were very happy. Parking is great either find a spot in the garage or on the street.

I had 2 children at Winchester Hospital and would never go anywhere else. Their care is wonderful and the nurses are so friendly and helpful. They have a great bedside manner, and keep you informed every step of the way. The doctors that are affiliated there are also wonderful. And believe it or not, I look forward to the food here! Giving birth is such a stressful time in your life and it's nice to know that you are in good hands and don't have to worry when you come here.

Last year, I became ill and was rushed to the emergency room at Winchester. Despite how busy the ER was, I got A+ medical attention. I have worked in emergency rooms and hospitals in the past, and I have NEVER seen such a group of sweet, truly caring individuals as the staff at WH!
After several hours, and every test imaginable, the doctors determined that I needed to be admitted. I was so scared because this was my first time ever being admitted, but they took GREAT care of me. I really felt like these people truly cared about how I was feeling and the pain I was in.
The ER nurses even came up to visit me, during the week I stayed and even bought me a teddy bear! How sweet!
I've been back for tests and even for the C-session of my friend's new baby and the quality of the place never diminished. This is truly exceptional medical care!
PROS: Amazing, caring, thorough staff
CONS: sadly there aren't too many places like this!
