We went to the Rustic Kitchen on a Friday night before a show at the Wang Theatre. It is very close to the theatre which is a good thing because we had to pay $20 for parking. The restaurant is located at the Radisson Hotel. The decor is nice. We arrived at about 6 pm and it was just starting to get busy. We didn't have a reservation, but were able to get seated right away. I would recommend a table away from the bar because the poor people sitting near the bar were surrounded by rude people who were waiting for a table. It took about 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order. The girl was very nice. Turns out she wasn't even our waitress. The red sangria I ordered was good. When the waitress finally showed up, we ordered the artichoke lobster dip which was very good. About 2 minutes prior to getting the appetizer, they gave us bread. It would have been nice to have gotten it sooner. We were all disappointed with our meals. My husband's filet mignon looked like it was cooked the day before and reheated a couple of times. He got another one which was barely cooked. It was raw instead of medium well. The waitress apologized and stated that she doesn't know much about meat, and that a lot of people complain about their meat not being cooked properly. (are you kidding me?) She should have offered to remove it from the bill or at least offer a free dessert. My swordfish did not look like swordfish. It was edible. I wouldn't order it again. The lobster mashed potatoes sounds better than it is. It is just their regular mashed potatoes with a couple of small pieces of lobster thrown on the side. We barely saw the waitress, but there were food runners and bus boys doing their jobs. I do not recommend this restaurant. If you do decide to go - just get drinks and appetizers. Beware though, they do charge you extra if you share your appetizer.

Pros: Ambiance, good appetizer, location

Cons: Bad food, poor service, pricey for what we got, not worth it

This place has some good classic meals, but it doesn't always taste very fresh. It's a good place to go grab some drinks and appetizers.

If I had read these reviews before going, I might have passed. I have been to the Kitchen 3 times and each time it was perfect! Tim, Mario and Maggie were our bartenders, who remembered us on our second visit! We had the Raspberry Tartinis and they were perfectly made.

Our waiter, Jessie brought us extra olives because they are the best thing we ever had.. ;-) and they happily split our meals. (which, by the way were unbelievable delicious and we spoke to both the head chef AND the owner..)

We had the grilled pear salad and the pan seared sea scallops.. we also had the sausage pizza. The food was wonderful, and the service couldnt be better.

I would highly recommend the Rustic Kitchen and I will be heading there Sat night for my sisters birthday!

I hadn't gone to the Rustic Kitchen Boston since early last year. I used to go a lot especially to the bar but I got pregnant so I had to take a break. There used to be nice Bartenders; Dhalia and Adam; unfortunately they are gone. Finally I went back Saturday night with my husband and my sister. The restaurant was very busy, we didn't have reservation so we had to wait a little bit at the bar, the bartender girl wasn't nice at all, looked tired and was quite busy chatting with the servers that were waiting for drinks. The other two bartenders were busy also, but one of them ( young blond men) was kind of nice and a couple of times smiled and asked if we were fine the other bartender Mario, he' been there for ever and he won't change, nice, kind of slow and awkward
One of the surprises was the new manager who used to be a hostess always showing cleavage but never smiling, we got sat but her and as usual she looked upset:(
The server we got was very busy with other tables that barely pay attention to us. Other server greeted us, offered water and bread and offer as excuse for her partner who came to the table just to take our order and bring the check.
We had to wait so long for our food but was delicious; for app we got an amazing Tuna Tartar with avocado
I had the Scallops, my sister got Veal and my husband New York strip with a delicious salad that I ended having.

If you want AMAZING food and great prices, but willing to wait this is the destination
The service is just average, so for outstanding service go somewhere else.

I just ate out at Rustic Kitchen on Friday for the first time in a year because we had a bad experience but we didnt want to write it off. To my surprise everything was wonderful, the food was perfect, i couldnt ask for a better prep on their short ribs - these have got to be the best in the city! The server, Greg was simply peppy and more than happy to help; however the male bartender (with whom we sat before dinner) was completely foolish, he must've broke 3 or 4 glass while we sipped on drinks and he seemed awkward - wrong type of bartender for us that night.

Anyways the decor is warm and inviting, but at times it's a bit busy - the owner should have kept in mind KISS - keep it simple stupid; the lights in the atrium that look like onions (?) are too over the top...its like anywhere they could stick a light there it was... but this place was excellent on Friday and we will be back.

Pros: Food, Waitstaff
Cons: The main room with the pizza oven is too busy - sit in the dining room.

I did not eat at this restaurant but earlier this year's restaurant week we were intrigued by the decor so we went in. However, we never got seated and we stood there for 5 minutes looking like idiots. The bartender saw us and didn't even bother to give us some attention. The restaurant was basically only 5% full and not one waitress we saw walking around came up to seat us.
I would never come back to this restaurant because of it's horrible service and we really was just looking for a good night out and to try their food.

go there periodically w/coworkers for happy hour. enjoyed their bar, enjoyed their drinks & food, but have had more than one not-too-happy experience w/the people. first time it happened, a bartender was VERY verbally grumpy about having to make apple martini for a patron (my colleague) who ordered it. and just recently we were not feeling very welcomed on premise because: 1). our group size might have gotten too big at the bar which might have disturbed or otherwise inconvenienced their dinner patrons; and 2). later i heard there might have been a dispute on the bill bc there were so many of us ordering from everywhere and on top of it some stranger bought us all a round of drinks which might have complicated the calculation.

another thing, one side of the bar (facing the dinner tables) has way too little room to wiggle around. there is literally no place to situate our bags and coats, and merely our behinds.

in any case, with all the bummers, not sure if we would go back still coz i'm personally against bad service. however, i love their cranberry bog (a martini) still.

We went to Rustic Kitchen on a Sunday night at 6:15pm and the place was only 10% occupied. It was our first time there and we found their decor very interesting. The fire stove facing the entrance has created a very warm atmosphere.
We ordered calamaris for our appetizers and it was very tasty. They weren't too greasy and we could still taste the calamaris and not the deep fried batter. For my entree, I ordered a shrimp spaghetti, which is shrimp with handcrafted angel hair. The texture of angle hair was slightly overcooked and it was tasteless. They used lots of oil to cook the shrimps so the oil can soak through the pasta and makes it looks shiny. My husband ordered a pan roasted stuffed chicken with proscuitto. The chicken was cooked soft, combined with the more flavored proscuitto they actually taste quite good. However, the server or our waiter didn't offer us any pepper because they were too busy chatting at the bar. It took me more than 5 minutes to get one of the waiter's attention.
While we were having our entrees, we overheard the waitress recommending some specials to the table next to ours. So we called our waiter over and asked if there was specials, and his reply was "Yes there is and I forgot to tell you completely." We then asked him what are the specials and he said "it's about the same thing on the menu, just the salad is a bit different." Then he walked away. In fact, if we hadn't called him over, he was only at our table when he took our orders and gave us the check. Shouldn't he be checking on the customers and see if they are satisfy with the food or not?
We left after our entrees and would rather go elsewhere for desserts. We were too disappointed with the waiter's service I agree their food was overrated. With the unlucky experience I don't think I would recommend anyone to go there, unless you get take out.

We went on a Friday night and had a very nice waiter who was more than helpful. The atmosphere is modern and comfortable. My girlfriend and I went with two close friends. For appetizers we ordered tuna tartare and the beef carpaccio. The tuna tartare was above average, but the beef was bland and tasteless. Nothing really caught my eye on the menu, so I ordered the filet mignon which is usually a safe bet. When it was served, the first bite I took was tough and grizzly. My girlfriend tried a bite as well, and spat it into a napkin. I can honestly say this was the worst cut of filet I?ve ever had, and to make things worse, it was flavorless! The rest of the entrees were fair, but no one was impressed by their meal. For the price, there are much better restaurants. We did enjoy the atmosphere and the service was good, but at the end of the day, our meals were not good and that?s what really matters. Save your money, go elsewhere.

I recently went in for lunch with a friend for my first Rustic Kitchen experience and was pleasantly surprised. I was given a quick tour by the accomodating and friendly owner and instantly fell in love. He gave me details about their custom-designed lights and their Studio Kitchen in the back. Our server was pleasant and knowledgable, listening to our particular interests in food and recommending a fabulous main dish. Don't let the Lunch menu fool you, you can get almost any of their Dinner pasta dishes at this time as well. I, being a stickler for salads, ordered a Caesar salad to start and the Shrimp Spaghetini, while my friend ordered the Spinach salad and their sausage pizza. I tried a bit of everything and I am very picky with my Caesar salads and I must say, the one served at Rustic Kitchen is delectable and uniquely displayed. The pizza was delicious, just the right mixture between sausage and peppers, the perfect hint of spice. The Shrimp Spaghettini was amazing, the sauce wasn't too heavy so I didn't get filled too quickly. I was almost able to finish it. The Tiramisu (which I just had to order) was great. It was so light and fluffy and it was the perfect size for two to share. With this kind of experience under my belt, I can't wait to see what they have to offer for dinner!

We went to Rustic Kitchen a few times to give it a fair try, but I have to say that every single time we went there, the entrees were just not good. They were flavorless. Salads and other appetizers were always great! Sadly, every different entrees my husband and I tried were just not good. If Rustic Kitchen is reading this, I hope they look into improving their main course. The place looks great! The bar is nice, the entire restaurant is very well-lit, and the whole atmosphere is very warm and relaxing. We will definitely return because we think it's still a very nice place, but we will stick to salads and appetizers only, instead of wasting money on entrees that we just couldn't bare to finish. Wine list was pretty good. With a little improvement, I think this is a very nice place to hang out at.

Service was good but the food was horrible. I had heard the bad reviews before going but thought I would give it a try anyways. Ordered pasta as a safe bet but to my dismay, it was one of the most awful things that I have ever ate. There was absolutely no flavor. Wanted to go back in the kitchen and add some salt, pepper, and herb seasonings to improve it myself. Apps were ok but stay away from the meatball app. It came in this overly sweet tomato sauce. I also ended up hanging up my own coat even though the restaurant was half empty.

I visited Rustic Kitchen in the Theatre District while my boyfriend's parents were visiting from out of state. The atmosphere and ambiance are great but the dining room is very noisy and the service mediocre. When the servers asked for drink refills they often ignored one or two people at the table. I enjoyed my dinner but the rest of our group thought the food was average. It's a cool place but don't expect too much from the service.

My boyfriend and I went to Rustic Kitchen tonight because we live very close by and the menu online looked good. The dining room was about half full and we were seated at a very nice booth. About half of the decor is very cool (stone and slate) and the other half looks so out of place (imagine chairs in a Howard Johnsons lobby). Olive bread was given to start the meal. The olives in the bread were so salty the bread was almost inedible (even dipped in the watery hummus). My boyfriend and I both got caesar salads in parmesan crisps which were good. My boyfriend had the flat iron steak which was definitely the highlight of the meal- but the salsa it came with was totally out of place. I had Pappardelle with mushroom ragu. It came in an oil sauce which didn't really taste like much and the mushrooms were rubbery. It was pretty much inedbile. This was the first time in my life I have ever not finished a bowl of pasta. Not to sound like Chef Colicchio, but i doubt the chef tasted anything I ate tonight.

The food was so tasteless here that I was felt compelled to write my first review. Raised by an Italian grandmother I will admit that I am picky when it comes to Italian/Italian Contemporary food. I am not a huge fan of contemporary Italian, however Stella in the South End does and excellent job and she has the crowds night after night to prove it. My partner and I decided to wonder out of the South End and try an new place. We went on the Wednesday night before Christmas and the place was quiet. We were seated at a nice table in the back room. The atmosphere was nice and cozy, the waitress was friendly and pleasant and provided us with excellent service. The food however was another story. We started with the Calamari, a common appetizer that I am afraid to say was all too common and tasteless. The entrees would prove even worse. I ordered ravioli off of the menu, which appeared to be homemade and were cooked aldente. However the the problem was that they were absolutely tasteless and the sauce that accompied was also tasteless. My partner had the Crab/pasta dish. This entree was simply tasteless as well. The red sauce had zero flavor, "Prego" from the jar would have been a better option. The crab was served still in the shell on top of the pasta and it was nearly impossible to get the crab meat out of the shell.
There are only two positive things that I can state about this meal, 1. the waitress and her great attitude and service and 2. the two bottles of red wine that we shared during the course of this tragic meal. I grew up working in a restaurant and I dine out frequently and I usually always give a new establishement a second attempt, however on this particular evening Rustic Kitchen was near empty and if the food was this tasteless on an off night I can only imagine how tasteless it might be on a busy night. Not cheap.....

My wife and I went to the new Rustic Kitchen in Park Square last Saturday night and had one of the best meal we've had in years. We arrived early so that we could get a drink in the new glass patio and found it to be the coolest place around to hang out and have a drink. They have a huge plasma tv that would be awesome to watch a game on. At our table, the fabulous server described the four specials so well that I wanted to stay all night and try them all. My wife got the Filet Mignon and I had the Agnolotti Dal Plin. Both were amazing and made me come back for lunch three days later with a friend. We shared the Cripsy Fried Calamari and were blown away at not only how good it looked, but also how great it tasted. For dessert we had the Black Bottom Creme Brulee and felt like we were in heaven. The atmosphere in that place is completely unmatched. We stayed til 1:00 because it was so comfortable. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and we hope to become regulars.

Pros: Ambience, Service, Food, Location

Cons: none
