My fiance and I are huge sushi fanatics. We've eaten sushi in every sushi restaurant in Southeastern Massachusetts as well as many in Rhode Island. We love it so much we have raw fish shipped to our house so we can make sushi at home.

We eat sushi about 3 times a week. We purchase most of our sushi from Hong Kong City Restaurant in Taunton. We've eaten inside and purchased take out more times than I can count in the last 3 years that we've lived in the area. I've never had their Chinese food, so I can't comment on that, but their sushi is mediocre. It's hit or miss. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, sometimes fresh but prepared horribly.... you get the picture.

We go to Hong Kong City for two reasons.
1.It's the closest sushi restaurant to our house.
2.It's cheap mainly because they send out $10 coupons in the mail.

So the other night........ surprise.... surprise..... We decide to get sushi..... At Hong Kong City nonetheless. I go and pick up the take out, bring it home and realize that I'm missing an ebi mango maki. I look at the slip to make sure it was ordered and sure enough, I paid for an ebi mango but I didn't get it. I thought for a minute... maybe I should just call it a loss, but it was $10 and $10 is $10! So I jumped back into the car and drove the 20 min back to Hong Kong.

My problem isn't that they made a mistake and I had to drive back to the restaurant. The problem is how they treated me when I went back to the restaurant and told them (very nicely) that I didn't receive my maki roll. After I explained the situation to the woman behind the counter, she went back to discuss it with the chef. Her response was essentially... "No, the chef said he made it and put it in your bag." After a little discussion back and forth, her insisting that the roll was there, I started questioning my original thought that the roll was missing. I agree to call home to verify that the sushi is missing. (Like I don't know what sushi looks like or something) My fiance verifies that the ebi mango maki roll IS missing. I relay this information to the woman behind the counter and her response was.... "Why didn't you bring all the sushi back?"

BRING ALL THE SUSHI BACK??? Are you kidding me? 20 minutes home, 20 minutes back there and then 20 minutes home again in 90 degree heat??!! What is the point in that? So my sushi can go bad sitting an hour in 90 degrees???!!!

I explain this to the woman behind the counter. I don't live RIGHT around the corner; it's a hassle for me to come back in the first place! I'm not bringing all my sushi with me. She told me it was their policy, and I needed to know that for next time. She then went on to ask me WHY I didn't check my sushi before I left to make sure it was all there.

I've never had a problem with receiving all of my food in the past therefore I didn't think I needed to check the order.

I continue to insist that I know what sushi looks like; I eat there all the time (or I did, not ever again, that's for sure). I've never had an issue getting my food before. I'm not carrying my raw fish around in 90 degree heat for an hour etc etc etc etc

Her response.... (and this is what really got me fuming) She says..... "This one time, we'll give it to you on the house but in the future you need to check your order before you leave."

Oh really!!?? How can you get something "on the house" when you PAID for it???? Plus I'm getting reprimanded for not checking THEIR work????!!! You've got to be kidding me!!!!!

To make it even worse, when I finally got home (an hour and a half AFTER I had ordered it) and started eating my sushi.... it wasn??t very good!!! I went through all that for cruddy sushi!!

What happened to the motto that the customer is always right?? As a paying customer I expected to walk in, explain the mistake, they'd say sorry (whether they were really sorry or not) and I'd walk out of there with my maki roll. Instead, the woman was rude and interrogated me like I was some kind of criminal. She constantly implied that I was lying to her and refused to believe that there was any fault on their part. All this hassle over a $10 maki roll. I've put up with their hit or miss mediocre sushi for 3 years however I won't put up with their poor customer service. I, for one, won't be eating there anymore. They can keep their mediocre sushi and their rude employees!!!

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful inside and huge! I was amazed at how much better the place looks now than how it did back when it was a bowling alley then a night club. The food comes out in record time and was the best Chinese food I've ever had. I had the crab rangoons and peking dumplings. Awesome! The crab rangoons were crisp and filled to the brim with cream cheese and crab and the dumplings were plump and tasty with some ginger soy sauce. I ordered pork fried rice and a special called crispy jumbo shrimps with walnut. Huge shrimp that were covered with a lemony sauce and candy walnuts. By far the best. Rice was fluffy too and not overly soyed down like other Chinese restaurants. Even though I was stuffed, I asked our waitress, who was so extremely knowledgeable and friendly, about dessert. She showed us a menu which had incredible looking items on it. One intrigued me, a pineapple sorbet served in a real pineapple shell! This place is hands down the best Chinese restaurant I've been to. Food, service and atmosphere, 5 star.

Great atmosphere, service, food is beautifully presented AND delicious and not expensive. I've already been back, great place to try something new--it's ALL good. There are desserts, too, but I haven't had any yet. Loved it!

By the outside the place looks gigantic! Inside looks spotless. We were graciously greeted by the hostess, and seated at the sushi bar. The sushi chef was knowledgeable, presentation was good, but the sashimi was so fresh! Just what you should expect from a sushi bar. The dessert listing looks great but only had two items, which did not contain ice cream (gelato). We had the chocolate souffle-it was served piping hot, the inside could have been a little more gooey but was very tasty. Although it is advertised as a Chinese food restaurant-we did not try it once we saw the sushi, but the generous serving that were coming out looked and smelled delicious. We definitely will be back. This place is a keeper!
