Avalon oversells every concert. I've been to 2 sold out shows there in past 2 months and both times you could barely get into the room. Pushing, shoving, and yelling. Just gross.

I went to few sold out shows after the fire at The Station in RI and you could get in and around, get to the bar and actually stand on the floor without feeling like a lemming. Since then the numbers have steadily creeped up... Sickening.

Basically if the show is sold out I won't go. It's not like you'll see the show anyway.

I went to see Martin Sexton, an incredible artist. Avalon over-sold the venue and it was impossible to see, never mind dance to the performer! The venue was highy disappointing.

Last night I went to Avalon for the first time. A bunch of my friends are regulars so I decided to go along. It's a fantastic club! The drinks are excellent. Great bartending service. The crowd is trendy and there's a dress code, which is fine with me. The dj was really good. I enjoyed the music alot. It's a great atmosphere, great location, pretty much great overall. I will go to Avalon again. My friends were right.

I completely agree with user: Ranndino. The people that go to Avalon and then come on here and write ridiculous reviews need to get a clue. Avalon is not some random college bar where you can approach the dj and get him to play whatever you want...these are world renowned dj's that come and play the music that people want to hear and what they are already famous for! As far as the person that complained about the dress code and claiming that there wasn't any information on it...use your head please! Just because its a tuesday night and its hot outside doesn't mean there isn't a dress code...this is an upscale place...not a beach bar. If this person had simply gone to the avalonboston website they would have gotten all of the information they needed...its just laziness people! Oh and for the guy that mentioned the "trashy floor dancers"....they are totally NOT trashy! They are similar to go-go dancers...they are sometimes scantilly clad but are always very professional and classy...they aren't strippers people! So overall, yes you will pay a bit more than other clubs (but only on nights that world class dj's appear), you will not pay anymore for drinks than you would at any other club and yes you are able to dance. The only thing I would recommend is that if you decide to utilize the coat check and its a particularly crowded night, towards the end of the night get in line a bit earlier than usual to ensure you won't be waiting in the huge line at the very end of the night. Other than that Avalon is a great club...people need to get a clue.

Cons: Long Line for Coat Check on particularly crowded nights.

For a small local venue, this place is great. Lot's of room to move around and get a great view of the main act. No food is offered at the venue, but they do offer a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at a numerous amount of bar areas inside the club. Prices for drinks are relatively high at about $8 for a mixed drink/beer.

A definite trend shows up. The people who understand dance music think that Avalon is by far the best club in Boston (which it is). The people who are completely clueless and expect to come and hop around to the usual top 40 garbage stuffed down their throats by commercial radio end up being disappointed. Before you go out do a little bit of research so that you don't stumble into something unexpected and then come here and write idiotic reviews. For those who have a clue there is simply no other club in Boston that even comes close. For people like the moron who said that the music was terrible and that DJs did not take his requests - Avalon is not your barmitzvah! Yes, the world's top DJs don't play the sh*t you listen to and no, they will not take your idiotic requests to play "Sweet Caroline".

I went to see Tiesto Jun 15 (was rescheduled w/o notice) The staff would not let me in since I was wearing shorts (humidity at 85%),, let's see Tues night, techno dj concert, AND A DRESS CODE? Last I checked this was not a Celine Dion concert were we would all be sitting down screeming bravo. No dress code mentioned in online ticket sales. 2hrs of driving for nothing! Also,, Advance ticket was about $ 2.00 more than at the door ticket due to convenience fees and such.

I think Avalon has reached critical mass in terms of its "infamous" market status in Boston and elsewhere. And due to the churn in the number of new visitors each day at the club, they could care less about frequest fliers. It's like the houseing market in Massachusetts - i.e. a sellers paradise. The bar tender was extremely snooty for some reason. The drinks are by far the most expensive on Landsdowne Street and the music seldom good enough to dance to. More of a place for first-timers to visit and leave. Would not recomend it to someone unless some famous DJ swings by. Times have changed and there are tons of other places that one could have a good night out.

For all its anonymity and truly tasteless floor dancers, the music is great. They constantly bring in some of the bigger names and if you like house, this is the spot to be at on a Friday.

New addition: The NuRoom (the pretentious room in back) is cool because it's not as crowded as the main floor, which means the bartenders can actually hear you and serve you.

And I love that you can wander into Axis, Embassy, I/D, and the Modern if you want. :) That makes the cover almost justified.

AVALON ='s
1. Big gymnasium PACKED with alot of people, who dont like to dance, but just DRINK on the dance floor.
2. If your lucky, yout might catch a night where they actually play some good music and not music that you can fall asleep too.
3. You will never spend more money in one night to get in and buy a drink.
4. If your into standing around and drinking and at DANCE CLUB, this is the place for you.

If you like good music and love to dance, go down the street to one of the clubs that play good up beat music, NOT metronomes.

Traveling to Boston on a baseball trip, my friends and I found Avalon and Axis Night Club to be a great after game party. Avalon was one of the best clubs I since been to. The dance scene is busy. It's perfect for a battle royal.

Go to Avalon and you'll overpay for your drinks and have to go back to have them add alcohol and that's after you fight you way to the bar. Once you get to the bar, you are treated as though you are a fly buzzing around the bartender's head. There do dance? Good luck just walking in the push/shove crowd.

The cover is way too expensive. The music way too loud to make any sort of conversation. No place to sit if you aren't a VIP, and the music is absolutely terrible. The DJ would not play requests.

Backed by Camel Cigarrettes and owned by John Lyons, this "hotspot" sporadically draws in a mildly orignial DJ or two, although they do have the capital to draw in acts like DJ Krush, from time to time, and it can be refreshing to wander from Avalon to Axis and Embassy on Fridays, when all three are interconnected. If you've never danced with glowsticks before, this would be a GREAT place to do.

I have been to the Avalon numerous times. I have never been really thrilled by the place but I always give it another shot because they bring in some dope DJ's. That is the only thing they have going for them. The LAST time I visited the Avalon was Halloween night 02. It was HORRIBLE I went for the DJ (PVD). The tickets were 30 dollars a head witch is normal for such a big name. That was not the problem. The problem was we paid 30 dollars and got treated like Sh$%. There was no crowed control at all! It was so bad that you couldn't dance if you wanted to. People were literaly shoulder to shoulder. Have they ever herd of FIRE CAPACITY They just kept letting people in.

When I went to Avalon, I was really impressed with the awesome music and cool lights. Not to mention all the hot and friendly guys. We met some really cute British guys, who were unfortunately way too old for us. The club was a lot classier than anywhere else I'd gone. It's very expensive, but worth it. There are platforms that are elevated above the dance floor, and I had a blast dancing on the platform. I live in western Mass, and there are very few clubs out there. The ones I've been to have been trashy, with bad music, men who look like drug addicts, women who look like prostitutes, and a generally bad atmosphere. After my previous experiences with clubs, Avalon was refreshing and fun! One thing I didn't like was that there were drinks spilled on the floor so it was wet and gross.

As a person who experiences many different clubs throughout the scene, i can honeslty say that the dj's, performers, and the club as a whole are top notch. The promoters on the extremely popular nights (Fridays and Saturdays), do an amazing job with the place. The ladies are beautiful as ever, and the overall vibe in there is great. On a negative note, i must agree with many of things that were said before, mainly price. Don't plan on heading out there unless you have a little bit of spending money, and then some more money to cover the average expenses when going out. Door charges do take a piece from your wallet, and the drink prices outway the contents within the drinks. Word of recommendations before heading out to Avalon, have plenty of drinks first, then head there, and you'll have a blast, Guaranteed.

I went for my first time two weeks ago with my girlfrind and three other friends. The Music and lights are great, but the admission was too much, I couldn't get a strong drink no matter how much I tipped, and for what I got, the drinks were way over priced. If you don't know the STAFF forget it. You won't be with the in croud. Stay home with your friends and watch a movie, you'll have a better time and save money also.

Its a place too be seen at, sometimes its gets pretty wild! I think its the best night club in Boston. And the DJs there (during events) are THE best, from Carl Cox to Paul van Dyk. This club is probably even better then a few in NYC. If you are single on a Friday night, this is the place to go!

Maybe I'm getting old, but I like clubs where you can breath. I've been there a lot because I have friends that are in the music industry. So they usually put me on a guest list, and just getting in on the guest list can be a nightmare. There's usually such a crowd outside that you can't even get to the doorman. And the door people are so rude! I mean really rude! It's a good thing that the bartenders are fast and make strong drinks.

Avalon is the best of the best when it comes to clubbing in Boston. The New York clubs (most of which have been closed down) can not rank with Avalon anymore in regards to bringing in the world-class DJ's. Everyone from Paul Van Dyk to Carl Cox to the world's #1 and #2 DJ's Sasha & Digweed make this the place to be on Avaland Fridays & Saturdays. Cover is sometimes pricey but definetely worth it. Come early as the line can get long, and the place is always packed with good talent there. Don't forget to check out the great DJ's at the sister clubs of Embassy and Axis.
