I have been going to Dancer's Image since I started dance and I have not ONCE had a bad experience with Paula, the owner. She has been nothing but helpful and I am always very happy with the selections she has pulled for me. All of the employees are very educated and they know what they are talking about. People have got to think about how many people these women have to work with throughout the entire day, so they might be a bit impatient, but it really isn't anything personal, so don't take any criticism literally. They have such a huge selection of shoes, as well as apparel and accessories. I would definitely recommend that people in the area go to Dancer's Image because they will get what they are looking for.

Cons: Very squished inside

My daughter in a freshman at the Boston Conservatory. When I arrived for parents weekend she told me there were no dance stores in the area. I went on line and found Dancers Image right outside of Boston. Her store is oneof the best equipped stores I have ever been into. Paula spent over one hour working with my daughter to help her get fitted into pointe shoes that would be better for her career. She gave us many suggestions and contacts in the Boston area that would benefit my daughter and her career. The personalized attention and service were superior to any dance store I have been too and with a ballet dancer, I have been to a lot. Although my daughter has been dancing for 14 years they were still able to share with her things she did not yet learn. AWESOME!!

My daughter is starting her second year of dance and going to Dancer's Image makes her feel special and "part of the club". The staff help us find things quickly (thank goodness), they make the older brothers feel welcomed (with cookies) as they stand around looking embarrassed, and their stories make my daughter feel like she is part of a larger community. A community of dancers and artists.

In spite of the Jewish holiday starting they kept their store open and made my entire family feel welcomed and cared for. We make a 10 mile trek, passing other dance stores, to come to Dancer's Image. As long as my daughter dances, we will keep coming back.

I have been going to Dancer's Image for 7 years for my two daughters' dancing needs. While the owner can be temperamental, she really cares about getting the right shoe fit for every customer and will take whatever time it takes to find it (which is great if you are the one being fitted, not so great if you are the one waiting in line).

Today I took my girls in for their fall fitting. I had with me two unused pairs of dance shoes that we had bought a year ago but which were never used. Despite the fact that both shoes had been discontinued and I did NOT have my store receipt, Paula took them back graciously. I had been bracing myself for bad news, but was delighted by the way she handle it. Many store owners would have said tough luck and sent us on our way. I say the good definitely outweighs the bad.

I have been going to Dancers Image for at least the last three to four years, and my honest opinion is that the store's customer service has improved, but still needs a lot of work. I go there only for the convenience of being next to the Boston Ballet studio where my daughter takes her lessons and for the fact that they generally are very familiar with the requisite attire for the various classes. If I had the time, I would definitely look elsewhere. I agree with a previous reviewer that the store is very cramped and the owner can sometimes be very condescending and impatient. Other staff members, however, are and have been very pleasant and helpful. I also agree that prices are generally pretty high. Again, if one has the time, look elsewhere, such as Capezio's in Wellesley. Dancer's Image is really a shop for bratty little princesses who need their things "right away," forcing their moms to have to patronize it.

I had the unfortunate experience of dropping into this store recently for a number of items. I had many complaints.

First, the store is horribly cramped, and it is very difficult to find anything. The merchandise is very overpriced; I found similar (if not higher) quality items down the street at the Capezio shop in Wellesley last year. I can buy a pair of tights at Capezio for LESS than half of what I paid here.

But the worst part of the visit, by far, was the rude shop attendant I dealt with. She was unbelievably pushy, and would NOT allow me to simply browse! I told her right up front that I was "just looking," but she kept pestering me and pestering me, insisting that she knew what I needed. She certainly did NOT know what I needed! I would start to explain, and she'd simply cut me off, and pull out irrelevant (and very expensive) items for my consideration. I still regret having handed this woman any of my money, but I was desperate, and didn't have time to go anywhere else. I left the shop with the bare minimum of merchandise possible (and still spent $100!). I was very angry at how I was treated; being in that shop was certainly a test of my ability to "be the bigger person" and not rip into this woman! Never again.

I am visiting family in boston and when I checked out this morning from the hotel left my slippers and a few tights in the hotel room. The hoteI was not able to locate my stuff yet and I had to get going. I found this store on citysearch , I assume the woman who answered the phone was the owner because when I asked if she had a website her reply was " i took it down" and silence! I was in shock how an owner would reply to that, then rudely asked what I was looking for, I stated I havent been dancing for the past week and forgot a few things. Excuse me but what a horrible woman she was on the phone. Awful. We briefly chatted because she wouldn't shut up about her daughter dancing how she was attending some event. As I do dance for a well know company in canada she asked me " who are you" I was stunned , who am I ? she went on about a few people she knew and events she was attending. I DO NOT CARE ! nor do I care about your daughter!

Awful woman , I refused to go to the store apologized to the young lady at the spa for using the phone for so long.

I bet she is nothing but fat and ugly and a dreadful "STAGE MOTHER"

P.S. After reading the other reviews I would avoid shopping at this store , she seems to rip people off. I mean honestly she cant even afford her website obviously she is scam artists ripping poor innocent ballerinas off!

I was in a crunch needing some supplies for a short notice audition and searched for a local dance shop. Found this one and saw all the bad reviews so I was prepped for a bad experience and can say I was pleasantly surprised. The employees were actually all helpful and FRIENDLY not rude and nasty as I had read, so that was GREAT. They helped me find eveyrthing I needed even though they were trying to close up. I will definitely go there from now on when I need to pick up any supplies.

I highly recommend this store. They are wonderful people and extremely helpful, esp. when it comes to special orders and sizing. The owner Paula, has gone the extra mile for me several times even when she didn't have to. I am very appreciative to have such a wonderful local-owned and operated store nearby.

I am a ballet dancer in the Boston area, and I am glad to say that Dancer's Image always comes through for what I and my fellow dancers need. The company I dance for works exclusively through Dancer's Image for pointe shoes. Paula, the owner, personally makes sure that every girl in the company gets the right shoe in the right size with elastics ribbon, and any other special personalized thing needed to be done to any given shoes. Some need to be three quartered, some need to be bumped out etc. etc. Also, I have never seen a store where so many of it's employees are willing to learn everything they possibly can about dance apparel, the way shoes are supposed to fit, and what is going on in the dance world. Granted the store is covered from head to toe in pink, but that's what makes it unique. I've seen girls going into the store for their first pair of pointe shoes, and the person helping them will labor for as long as it takes until they find the right fit. Also, there have been instances when I have gone in, and they have not had a particular thing that I needed. They were glad to special order it for me, and that was very reassuring. It can get kind of crazy in there in September, so I would suggest making trips to the store at other times, especially if a person needs pointe shoes. Overall, I love this place. The staff can be very entertaining, and every once in a while they have brownies :)

I am a professional ballet dancer in the Boston area and have been going to Dancer's Image for almost five years now. I have only ever received the best of treatment. Paula Panos, the owner, has so much knowledge about the dance world and only gives the best customer service to the people that come in to her store. I have never experienced in my entire professional career someone who knows exactly what they are talking about when it comes to pointe shoes, like Paula. On top of her expertise with the dance world, she is an amazing person, with one of the biggest hearts I know. Words cannot express how thankful I am to her, and what she and her staff have done for me throughout the years. She takes care of me, and my fellow co-workers beautifully. Our company owes Paula so much thanks, and would not know what to do without her, especially when it comes to our pointe shoes! If you want the best place to go for dance supplies, shoes, advice, etc. then Dancer's Image is the place you need to go!

I'm just a guy who started taking adult beginner ballet classes at Boston Ballet next door. I read the bad reviews of this store, but my experience there was totally different. I must have had four very polite, professional, and eager employees help me with whatever I needed. There were others shopping, and everyone seemed like they were being attended to in a friendly way. It's not as easy for a man to browse for stuff when it really must be a minuscule percentage of their business! I would definitely go there again.

I thought the prices were fair, although the fact that BB is its immediate neighbor probably let's them jack'em up a bit... The only annoying thing I found was that they put the darn sticky-type security tags on the clothes' inner fabric labels. You just have to deal with the residue when you peel them off.

Perhaps I just have not met the owner that others have written about???

I will never return to this shop EVER AGAIN after how I was been treated on TWO separate occassions -- my mistake to give them another chance. Dancer's Image staff is so rude and unprofessional it left me reeling, wondering "Did she actually just say that to me?" I am a size 4/6 and am 5' 6" and she made me feel like I was a huge whale Like the other people who commented here, the owner will openly insult your body, talk down to you, and worstly, she treats her staff like dogs. Save yourself the trip and try Pattersons in Burlington or Dance This Way in Concord. Don't give such miserable people your money.

I am a professional ballet dancer, who got under a terrible service of this dance supply store. The owner is ridiculously rude, I've never seen such bad customer service of a dance store. I was shocked by the way I was treated there. She literary made me cry! I don't know how can they talk to their customers with such attitude and rudeness. Not only the owner is rude to the customers, but also very greedy about the cost of the dance items. I was trying to get a discount because of the school I go to, but instead I was almost yelled at... People who work there are extremely obnoxious.People, keep off that store for your own sake! It was a huge mistake of me getting in that store.

My child and I go to Dancer's Image just about once a year for shoes and we are always served quite well. The staff is friendly and very sociable. They do a very thorough job of ensuring that one is getiing the best fit depending on foot size, expected growth, and shoe type. We have always been serviced very well. On our last visit, actually, we all decided that no purchase was necessary as my child's current shoes were fine for the foreseeable future. So, I expect to be back probably in about 6 months (rather than a year).
Their recently expanded store space now gives everyone a bit more breathing room - so even more pleasant to be there.
Metered and free parking available. Summer hours a bit difficult for working parents, but staff is flexible if you make prior arrangements.

Like with ANY business, we all have possitive and/or negative experiences. I was a regular customer for 2 years before owning The Performance Factory, which is a performing arts studio, located in Waltham, MA. After 6 years of being in business, I have dealt with SEVERAL stores on many different levels. Weather buying costumes, referring students to have fitted shoes or even referrals for inventory they didn't supply, Dancers Image has ALWAYS been fabulous. My students receive a generous discount along with excellent customer service. Yes, sometimes the owner can be a bit out there but COME ON! She knows what she's talking about and her staff is excellent. I tell ALL of my students to purchase their footwear there because I know they will come into class with properly fitted shoes, unlike other surrounding dance stores who just want to get them in and out. I'm not a friend...not a family member. I really don't have a connection with Dancers Image, other then the fact that I trust them on a business level %100. If I didn't, I wouldn't take the time to write this review. I also wouldn't recommend them to my students because that would make ME look bad and that just can't happen.

I am an 18 year old Boston Ballet student who made the mistake of stepping into this store more than once. The store owner is rude, inappropriate, and condescending. I have never felt worse about myself or my years of hard work than after spending 30 minutes in this store. She comments on students weights, the schools they attend, and the outlook she has on their future. She is nobody... has never had ballet training herself and is truly a miserable person. She doesn't know how to fit pointe shoes and talks wayyyy too much about her daughter. There are so many other stores in the Boston area that are so much better than this one. While somewhat of a drive, Dance This Way in Concord is an amazing place. The owner is down to earth and enjoys helping girls. She will bend over backwards to help her customers and has made shopping for ballet gear fun. Avoid Dancer's Image at all costs. I guarantee you will be disappointed.

While I wouldn't sit down to coffee with the owner (I agree she can be sour, blunt and abrupt), I have repeatedly received good customer service from the owner and her employees. I have found them knowledgeable about their merchandise, especially different kinds of dance shoes, how to fit my daughter's wide feet, selecting more economical items when appropriate, etc. My daughter has more than "a little belly", and we have never heard a single snarky comment about her body. It is a specialty store, and the prices are specialty store prices; you couldn't get most of this merchandise in department or discount stores, and I am not willing to schlep out to Concord or Burlington at this point.

I have been an unhappy customer of this establishment, unfortunately, more than I wish to admit to myself. However, the other day a friend of mine had yet another horrible experience here. Not only was the owner very rude and condesending to her, but she was extremely mean towards her children as well as her mother. She even went so far as to lock the door behind them once they made the decision to just leave. Can you imagine? Haven't we all had enough? She once again lost another great and loyal customer who has young children and will be buying dance merchandise for many years to come. How this woman is able to stay in business is beyond me.
For those of you who have had similar experiences, please pass them along to your friends, family and anyone you might know who has been or plans on making the trip here. It is not worth it. It would be more beneficial to make the drive to another store in order to have a better experience. We all know that it can be scary having to buy something that we are unfamiliar with. My suggestion is to make the trip to Dance This Way in Concord, MA. They are very knowledgeable, extremely professional, helpful and polite.

Pros: NONE

Cons: Rude, Condesending, Unprofessional, Ignorant, Inappropriate

I was surprised by such bad reviews. I visited the store several times and every time I received a decent service. I agree that prices are higher than you find in Wal-Mart or Target. But not everything you can find in Wal-MArt or Target. I was not looking for basic leotard, I was looking for speciality clothing, like very low-rise pants and crop top (I need them for belly dancing) and staff was able to help me and get me what I was looking for. Even when I came with my daughter to buy a basic leotard staff was very friendly and cooperated with my daughter while she was trying every leotard she liked. I heard no unprofessional remarks, instead I got all the advice I asked for and even more, like recomending other stores and options to avoid buying expensive stuff and how to do some costuming myself. I also got advise about the different dance teachers in the area.

Pros: Close to gymnastics school my daughter is attending

Cons: Expensive

I've dealt with this place -- and the rude, unprofessional staff -- for nearly 10 years. Not on a regular basis, mind you! Every few years, I go back to give them the benefit of the doubt. BIG MISTAKE!! Nothing has changed, the owner is worse than ever, they don't care if they mislead you, as long as they can bully you into buying from them. The worst part is that the owner gossips openly about everyone, and doesn't hesitate to use names. Just look at how she treats her employees!! EVERYTHING YOU READ IN THE OTHER THREE REVIEWS IS 100% ACCURATE!! For a shopping experience that is the complete opposite of this crazy place, try Patterson's / Back Bay Dancewear in Burlington. Lovely, lovely people, very knowledgeable, great selection; will order anything for you, are happy to give discounts to all dance students.

Pros: They're pros at being jerks

Cons: RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL OWNER; OUTRAGEOUS PRICES; BAD ADVICE

I had an unpleasant experience with this place. The customer service is awful, and the owner/ staff are unprofessional and rude. It has taken me a few days to finally calm down and realize how bad both my child and I were treated. We were insulted by the owner as she was speaking directly to us about our body images. We were spoken and talked down to in the most disturbing way. She made suggestions on clothing sizes for my child that was totally inappropriate and suggested that I should join a gym (mind you my child is 6yrs old and a peanut, and I wear size 8 clothing, didn't know that was a crime these days!) She recommended control top dance tights for my child because she told her that she had a "bit of a belly!" What professional or any person in their right mind say that to any child? This all was said and done around other customers. I will never step foot in that place again! I have no clue how this woman has stayed in business throughout the years! I sincerely hope that nobody gets treated the way we were that day. I hope the next person that she does this too will be as kind as me and walk away instead of feeding into her verbal abuse.

I, too, had the unfortunate experience as the other two reviews describe.

The owner, who doesn't deserve the courtesy of remaining nameless here, should keep her opinions to herself and concentrate on sales. No child deserves this treatment nor should they feel self-conscious in dance class where they should be enjoying themselves and learning.

The local community really should rally against this establishment.

first time to the Dancer's Image store in Newton,MA. The service was AWFUL. The owner/salesperson wa very snooty and condesending. She was making very unprofessional comments under her breath but loud enough to hear. Her assistant was clueless as far as merchandise is concern. I had more knowlege from research on the web than the help at the store.

Not allowed to ask questions or to browse. Very crammed in the store. Not much of a selection.
Had made a phone call to the store prior to stopping by, the abruptness of that conversation was a true indication that this store should be advoided at all cost.

Finally, ended going to Target's and was able to pick up everything that I needed for my daughter at a fraction of the price and not have to deal with someone with a bad attitude.
