Visited Stonehedge Inn feb 23 for a Saturday overnight special "Weekend Package" documented at $325 including room double occupancy, dinner at Left Bank for 2, breakfast for 2. This is really a place that specializes in corporate (overnight) events during the week and also boasts 100,000 bottles of wine in the associated Left Bank restaurant. The waiter recommended the lamb, which we ordered at 8 PM, and were then told there was no more. Both of the appetizers, a calimari dish and a kidney mousse, were tasteless; the breaded calimari was burnt. We both ordered variations on steak, both of which were cooked to perfection and scrumptious. Since we were paying for any extras, including drinks and wine, we attempted to order the least expensive wine. They were, unfortunately, out of it. This we remembered was also the coincidental experience of some friends previously. They were also out of the second least-expensive bottle of wine, so we ordered by the glass.

To start, I was surprised that the decor was like an upscale cafeteria. I asked if the kitchen could provide a 5-7 course tasting menu. The server looked bewildered and went to ask. She returned with suggestions of what to order off of the regular menu?clearly not understanding what I was asking for.
We ordered a bottle of wine, it looked OK, but had signs of seepage. As I?m a wine biz professional, I accepted the wine ? it tasted fine upon opening but never really came around. I figured rather than make an issue, we should just order something else.
Meanwhile a few courses of apps had come and gone. Food was mediocre at best ? bland/overcooked meats. When we finished the second to last course, I attempted to order another bottle?we were still thirsty due to the poor showings of the previous two. I rejected two bottles on presentation, due to SEVERE ullage. Eventually I found a decent looking bottle. It wasn?t corked, so I accepted it. Unfortunately this too was cooked but only became evident after a few minutes. I then asked the front desk for a manager.
Surprisingly, our server re-appeared at our table and said she was the manager! I explained that two of the bottles of wine had been borderline, but the most recent bottle was clearly unacceptable and pointed out that more than 75% of the wine was left and I wanted it off the bill. She apologized, said there was nothing she could do, and I should call back the next day and talk to another mgr.
At the end the?manager? then had the nerve to offer us port... I declined, was given the $2k+ bill, and signed w/o a tip. I filled out a comment card, saying this was among the worst wine experiences I have ever had at an allegedly wine-centric restaurant and that have to encourage friends to avoid this place. I also left my cell # and email and asked for them to contact me.
Over the following weeks I left several messages for the management of the restaurant and never received a response.
