I ordered a set of Brazilian Cherry Stairs for the house we are remodeling. They came in perfect conditions though it took a few days more than the two weeks what i was originally promised. 19 days in total. The price was at least 30% less

Contrary to the popular mood i decided to try this place I had heard so many controversial comments about. I bought 460 square ft. of Canadian Red Oak for my sister in law's house on the Cape, in Centerville. I did not want to buy the less

Terrible service. Vanished for months without notice. Let bank deadlines pass. Installed different materials than agreed upon without notice. Cannot un-recommend enough.

We found this company on Craigslist selling some leftover lumber from a large project. We installed the wood ourselves and it's very nice cherry flooring. The quality of goods isn't the problem. Here's where the story begins...\r

Yes, ALL NON-STOCK Special ordered Items DO require Payment in Full. NO company will accept a special order without a deposit (I've personally contacted both Lowe's and Home Depot to inquire) Occasionally a special order item may take longer to receive from a particular supplier for reasons out side of the company's control this happens in MANY BUSINESSES.

G.W. Lumber always does the best to help and service their customers in the even that such an issue occurs.

Gerry Stays late to accommodate his clients, comes in during non business hours to assist with their projects, designs rooms for their homes and bends over backwards to service as many as he is able, (even contacting him on his private mobile phone) but no one mentions that!

It's sad that people will post negative remarks about businesses but never stops to mention all the good that takes place in between. I have personally seen this company provide THOUSANDS in free material to customers, "Just Because"

Gerry is a wonderful person with a LOT of knowledge regarding this industry and I would suggest visiting GW Lumber. Their prices CAN'T BE BEAT!

Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere. Don't be lured into purchasing anything from these crooks. Comes across as a very nice pleasant individual initially then once you place your order, be ready for the run around. Gerry will lie about

Gerry is a con artist pure and simple. He always has a reason to ask for full payment in advance, ( price increase coming, etc.) but doesn't have the product in inventory. When you ask for delivery you get stalls and broken promises from Gerry and his wife.
We finally got our products after our construction project was brought to a standstill for a month. It was a different manufacturer and less of a grade from the product he had " set aside" for us.
He seems like a nice guy and has good prices but if you can't take the purchase with you, don't bother.
Please note that the two five star reviews shown above both were written on the same date. What a coincidence! Or , undoubtedly, they were written by an insider to try to counter the real reviews.

I had the same experience as Joseph the great's review. I foolishly prepaid in Feb 2010 for materials to be used in the construction of my new home based on a neighbor who had dealt with the company. Nothing but stalls and broken promises

We are waiting for our job to be finished, it's now 1 1/2 years since our original order in August of 2008 and we have no idea when Mike will be out to finish the job.

We purchased too much product for our upstairs originally and returned 2 sealed boxes of hardwood flooring with the instalation men, who promissed a refund for the returned materials. That was around September of 2008. In December of 2008, we called multiple times to ask about the refund. Nobody made an effort to refund our money until my husband went personally to the company with a CREDIT memo in hand that G W Lumber mailed to us after one phone call that past November. My husband's personal visit, when he was promissed the refund check and had the owner sign his credit memo, was in January of 2009.

At that time, we were pretty upset that we had to bug the crap out of them to get them to refund our money for returned, unopened, EXPENSIVE wood flooring. We wanted to use the refund money for Christmas 2008. Because they never bothered to refund in a timely fashion, we did not have the Christmas gifts we wanted to get for the kids that year. So, once the refund was received (February of 2009), we asked for a full refund of the money we paid up front that past August to have the stairs re-finished to match the new flooring. The stairs were due to be worked on in the spring of 2009.

They refused to refund anything because there are no refunds honored if you pay them for materials or services up front. Once the money is in their hands, it's no longer your money, so if you do business with them, be aware of that!

Reluctantly, in October of 2009, we called up to have the stairs done since we already paid for it and can't get a refund, we might as well have them done.

Here it is, February 3rd of 2010, and I had to call G W Lumber just now to remind them we needed to set up a date for the stairs to be finished up. Still no call from Mike (the installer).

Now, the quality of the product is very good, as were the prices. The installation was very good as well. The problem we had was with their refund policy
(or non-policy). We had to front all the cash to complete the 2 jobs (flooring installed for our entire upstairs and having the stairs refinished to match at a seperate date) before anything was ordered and then all the difficulty getting our money back for work never done on our stairs. We are now at their mercy because there is no way we will ever see cash from them again without a court battle.

If you have no other options and HAVE to deal with G W Lumber (I do not advise anyone to purchase anything from them, however, you are gambling with your money), I recommend that you pay for the materials ONLY and strike up a deal to pay for the work after the job is complete. In this day and age, there is a lot of competition and YOU control YOUR job until you pay for it in full. An honest business will work with you and accept your terms, if G W Lumber says no way, then it's their loss and they know it! This way, you can keep everyone honest until your job is complete, and that's how I have always done contracting business in the past.

We will never deal with this company again. My guess is that they are in a financial hole and are using future job money to dig out of the hole. If money is no object to you, then go ahead and hire them, but if you are like the rest of us who need to earn our money, look for a more reputable lumber or flooring company.

Pros: Once received, workmanship and quality is decent

Cons: Need to beg for refunds for returned mat., unfinished work

.

Over a year ago I ordered and paid for 2,100 square feet of unfinished maple flooring.
GW Lumber required that the materials were paid for in advance, which I did.
One year later I still have not received my materials.

I have tried to contact the owner, Gerry, I have left over 100 messages with no return phone call.

Do not make the same mistake as I did, DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY.
