We had a reservation via Open Table at Beehive. I also called Beehive to confirm that I had requested a table downstairs in front of the band for the Sunday Jazz Brunch. I explained this was a special date for my husband with the theme

It's not often that you find a place in Boston that has great live music and great food, but the Beehive has both!

I went there for Sunday Brunch with friends. They had live jazz playing the whole time and the food was the best I've had

If you're in the South End, the Bee Hive is a great place to end up. The bar scene is good. Pretty lively. The line to get in can get a little long. One of the key factors is the music have always been good.

However, each time I go, I always leave unimpressed with the food. It's ok...but nothing to write home about.

Instead, Sibling's is right next door (REALLY good - but more upscale), Picco's (really good - more casual), Mela's for Indian, B&G's and if you're willing to hoof it, Toro's is about a 5 minute walk.

Great for drinking & music...ehh on food.

Great place for live music in the South End. I love that its very diverse and attracts all kinds... so its great to people watch and meet some new people. Has two levels - large bar and open space downstairs and a small bar upstairs near the entrance.

Walked in the door and headed straight to the bar. Wine Riot was starting in about an hour and needed some hair of the dog to help with all the wine that was coming my way.

I ordered a bloody mary and my friend ordered a mimosa. Both took some time to make, not really sure why. Bloody Mary came and boy was it spicey. I LOVE SPICEY but atleast give me a warning before throwing that much spice into something that is supposed to help my morning after issues!

And here somes the bad. The bartender (she) double charged for one of the drinks. I brought it to her attention and it was fixed but my account has not been credited the first amount that was charged! Still trying to deal with the management on this one. I hope I reciee better service from the manager then the staff!

Over all a neat place but bring cash.

I love the transformer aspect of the beehive. Come for dinner and stay for the nightclub. Or just stop by for a great dinner on the way to some of the theaters nearby.

The Beehive is a great place to hear music, that isn't a crappy indie rock bar. The schedule is always changing, and you really don't know who is going to be playing there from one night to the next. Unfortunately, the food can be as unpredictable as the music. I have had great meals there, and I have had mediocre, but I don't necessarily go there for the food first. I go with friends, for drinks, dancing, etc. The food is secondary. I've always loved the atmosphere of this place, and that's what keeps me coming back.

I went here to celebrate my birthday since I had heard it was a great place. The restaurant itself has a great young vibe to it. There was 6 of us and we had an evening reservation on a Saturday. I had the pork which was a little dry and there were little shards of bones I had to pick out of my mouth, but the overall taste was fine. I tried my friend's steak which was much better. We were downstairs next to the live music which was fun, although it was hard to hear conversations around the table. Even so, the music was good and were enjoying ourselves. After finishing dessert and ordering another round of drinks, we were approached by the manager and asked to leave since reservations were only for "two hours" and the other party had been waiting. We had never heard of this 2 hour limit before and everyone was stunned. Up until that point, I was having a good time, but getting kicked out was extremely rude. We weren't "squatting" and had spent $400 with the intention of spending more. This has never happened to me before and the manager was unapologetic. I will never go back to this restaurant. I will steer everyone I know away from the Beehive.

This place was packed with people which was encouraging after readng the reviews here. We decided to sit at the bar and eat dinner. I loved that the full dinner menu is avalable to people at the bar. The menu was pretty limited but the food was great. We got the gulf shrimp appetizer and the steak tartar and Pate dish to start and we were not at all disappointed. The gulf shrimp came smothered in a spiced butter sauce that was so succulent! The Pate they served was appealing to the eye and the taste did not disappoint. The tartar was perfect with the caper garnishment. They served toasted bread slices to accompany both apps and it was the perfect touch. My husband had the short rib sandwich and LOVED it. I had the blackened rib eye med rare with a pepercorn au juis sauce and I have to say it's the best rib-eye I have ever had. I had a great traditional Martini and The hubby drank IPA and the service was prompt, polite and engaging. We had a great time listening to the live Jazz music and the band was good. We didn't get to stay for the reggae that starts at 10 due to other plans but we look forward to hearing them next time!

It is recommended you try this place because I cannot wait to go here again!

What a fun place, make a reservation, the downstairs looks like Casablanca, heavy curtains and small dining areas and tables. The food was better than I expected, the chicken and the scallops amazing. Live music playing but you can still talk to your tablemate and be heard.

We went on a Friday night and the place was "buzzing"... (get it?) Took us a few minutes to be seated even though there were many tables available. Once seated, we had a dozen oysters, which were okay. We ordered the salmon and the snapper. The salmon was pretty good but the snapper was horrible. I have never experienced a fish entree with so many bones, it was pretty much inedible and tasted horrible. The side dish was some kind of bean curd served in tin foil... very "classy" presentation. When asked how we liked the meal, we commented that the fish had many bones and the waiter snapped back saying "What do you expect, it's a whole fish", with an attitude. This ruined the whole experience for us, and we do not recommend this place.

We went there with our kids. The person at the door was friendly, but our steward was extremely RUDE and busy doing his thing at the POS machine for the longest time before he could get our attention every single time we needed him.
Either they are understaffed or some of the people that they hire are plain rude. Once we ordered our drinks and we wanted to have a second round, we had to wait for the longest time for him to see us and even then he didn't come. When we called him again, he said, "I heard you," loudly and didn't come. Finally we got someone else to get our Beer, which arrived after 15 minutes.

The Menu was limited and had very few vegetarian options.

He was very insensitive to the kids and their needs.
I wouldn't go there especially if I had to deal with such rude staff. The female waistaff was good.

I went to Beehive for the first time last week with a party of 10 for a friends birthday. From the moment I walked it, I was impressed with the service and atmosphere. The black and white movie projected on the wall in the upstairs bar which was the first hint of bohemian charm.

We were seated right away and our server was extremely friendly and accommodating. The chandeliers and live music were another great surprise. The menu was rather small but I chose the halibut, which was actually phenomenal. Others who ordered the salmon were a bit less enthusiastic about it, although they said it wasn't bad. The oysters, although a bit pricey, were also a smash, as was the enormous cheeseburger and "frites".

Overall, the meal was great. The service and atmosphere added a lot to the experience. I would love to come back and try their brunch!

I was hanging out near the stage with my girlfriends and a heavy bald guy who seemed to be managing the musicians (he was frantically running back and forth to and from the stage) bumped into me, knocking my drink over. He just said "whoops" and did not even apologize.
Employees should have enough good sense to buy someone a drink if they are responsible for having knocked it over.
Bad policy! Rude representative!

Best advice? Skip the Beehive unless you want to see the cool and eclectic bands they book. They are worth seeing. Otherwise, you are in for a bad time. I live around the corner and am patient. So we went back a few times because it is convenient and has a great atmosphere and we wanted to give it another chance as we really wanted it to be our local hang out. It isn't going to happen.
Each time we went, it was bad service. The times we only went to the bar, it was worse. Like when they wanted to charge us $3 per piece of cake to cut my birthday cake. This is after we called to make sure it was cool to bring 30 people to the bar and spend money. They welcomed us in and then were just plain rude. Multiple friends over the next few days called with stories of rude bartenders and forgotten orders.
The fake line at the door is ridiculous. Especially when there is no one in the place. But when they are full, unless you know the door guy, you stand outside and freeze for a long time. Not really fair.

Even tho we want to go here, we won't any longer. Just not worth the hassle. It is really too bad.

Here's what it's like to go to the beehive for brunch: Get seated....order...pretty standard right? Wait until your food comes. Imagine the biggest omelet you've ever seen..drenched in butter..filled with cheese you didn't order...next to greasy french fries that taste like friolator. I couldn't even smell it..nevermind EAT it. Who puts gorgonzola in an omelet?...bleh gross

Here's what it's like to go at night: Order an extremely overpriced drink...after standing outside in a line that's only long because they are trying to look busy..while the inside is empty. Stand next to pretentious people who pretend they are cultured by saying they "come here for the jazz music". The music, I will say, is very good. But listening to everyone pretend they know the music....just ruins the whole thing. Oh..and the bartenders? Good luck...they don't pay attention to you unless you scream...I can't tell you how many times I've ordered a drink from one...and they never make it or bring it to me.

Don't bother with this place. There are so many amazin grestaurants in the South End. Choose more wisely.

I have truly never experienced such horrific service in an establishment, in my life! Nor have I ever felt the need to publicly let others know. I have been to Beehive numerous times for drinks, and have never had an issue, until I experienced the wrath of the Irish bartender upstairs. That experience alone was unprofessional, out-of-line, and offensive beyond belief. I was quietly having a drink with a girlfriend, when I exited my seat for two minutes to take a phone call. I come back to my seat, only to have someone tell me his friend is sitting there. I politely say my drink is sitting there, my friend is next to it, etc... Conversation over- no big deal. I quietly make a silly joke about it to my friend. God forbid.

All of a sudden, the Irish bartender starts LOUDLY exclaiming, I'm "making a scene", asking me "what my problem is?", etc, etc... Mind you, the entire bar is now privy to this ridiculous yelling behavior, and I'm shell-shocked as my friend and I have zero idea what she's talking about! I kindly ask her to lower her voice, as I don't care to be humiliated for nothing in front of an entire bar. She not only does not stop, she goes on and on and on... as she gets louder and louder. This tantrum went on for numerous minutes. And I'm still confused as to what was going on!

At this point, my friend and I look at each other like "Whoa- what is wrong with her?" Let's get the heck out of here! We pay our tab, and literally ran out of there! I must say, I have never, ever experienced anything like that in my life. If you've had a bad day, need anger management, or whatever it may be, get OUT of the service industry! I did absolutely nothing to warrant such behavior, when I was just trying to grab drinks with an old friend.

I will NEVER, EVER step foot in there again, as I would never expose myself (or anyone I know!) to such atrocious, juvenile behavior.

the upstairs area is great looking. head down stairs to a nice size dining area with beautiful drapes, artwork and bar! The hostess was personable, we thought that would continue with our service. It took the waiter at least 10 minutes to recognize that we were at our, itty bitty table, barely any room for our water glasses never mind our drinks and meals. Finally after a waving him down he came over to our table. The food took a good while to come out. The french toast was a little disappointing. Very wet, but sweet and buttery. After one the mushiness got unbearable. The bacon was cooked to perfection. The steak omelete was fluffy and cheesy. But lacked flavor. Thanks for the experience, but no thanks again.l

This artsy venue in the South End actually feels like a beehive. They are the largest sparkling wine buyer in town--courtesy of Bertil, the wine director, who loves drinking and selling bubbly because it's an "affordable luxury". Food is adventurous and very good. With live band entertainment and homely feel, the Beehive is perfect for a fun dinner out or as an after-work gathering for drinks. And the bubbly really makes it feel like it's New Year's, every time.

The Beehive is a great place to go to grab dinner and stay around later to watch some live music and have a drink at the bar! I love the cavernous, warm feel to this place. It's great inside. There's an upstairs section and a downstairs; they are both great, but I do like the downstairs feel a bit more. In the summer you can sit outside. Grupo Fantasia plays here, and they're fabulous!! The stage reminds me of something from the 40s -- lots of character to this place.

Pros: waitstaff and food

Cons: parking is tough

If you are looking for something a bit different then the norm. This is your place. The decor is industrial upstairs and eclectic bohemian jazz club downstairs. It was very loud so you are looking for an intimate and romantic spot, this is not your place. I went with two friends of mine for birthday drinks and we loved the vibe of the place. The staff is fun and accomodating, we did not have the same experience as other reviewers. The drink menu was not extensive but the choices were delicious. Try the Bee Lini or the Blonde Sidecar, you will not be dissappointed.
We ordered the sage and sea salt frites, fried green tomatoes, double bone pork chops with mustard jus, and baked pasta vege ragout. Everything was delicious! Casual food with a flare.
The music was a wonderful blues, jazz singer and we wished we had waited for a table downstairs soon after she started her set. We sat at table by the railing upstairs so we could stil see the whole scene. They had cool 50s and 60s musicals playing on the screens upstairs, very entertaining.
We like it a lot it was something a bit different then most bars. Nothing fancy but definitely a fun night out.

We had a reservation for 9pm, were seated closer to 10pm, and got our food around 11pm. I was starving! We waited in the crowded upstairs bar and when I asked a security man who was pushing us around the bar when our table would be ready (since it was already 9:30pm), he got up in my face and yelled at me! His customer! After that I was completely turned off and upset anyway. The food at the Beehive was good (not great), and our waitress was very nice. But based on the long wait and rude security man, I will never go back there (and would not recommend to friends).

Simply terrible. Full of trust fund brats pretending to be hipsters but failing because they all shop solely at American Apparel. It's truly upsetting how bad everything at this place is. The food, the service, the people...horrifying. And SO expensive!

Awful service, awful food, and the manager is the biggest prat in the known universe. Need I say more? Well I guess so since these reviews require at least 100 characters.

Our Beehive experience was amazing. The staff was extremely helpful- even when our
party of 6 quickly turned into a party of 12 on a very busy night for the restaurant.

A group of co-workers met at the beehive and I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. The food was quite tasty and high quality; incredible jazz music; and the beehive space was spectacular looking. It was a bit loud but great fun nevertheless.

I have been to Beehive once before and was rushed through dinner and not impressed with the service. We waited much too long for our order to be taken and our drinks were never refilled and as soon as dinner came, we were rushed because our table was needed for another party.

My second time to Beehive, my experience was much worse. We made reservations and were not seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time. Meanwhile, it was a Sunday Brunch and plenty of tables were open. After we were seated, we were told they were not accepting credit cards. Why we were not told this while we were waiting is a good question. One meal came out wrong and when we asked for it to be fixed, we never received the meal back. My omelet was runny and watery and the french toast was not completely cooked. My second time to Beehive was my last time.

A few of us went to the Beehive for Sunday brunch. We waited patiently for our table to be ready at the bar, the bar tender chose to ignore us. After seated, we started off with a very arrogant waitress and continued with sub-par service the entire meal. We were not given coffee refils and our food (eggs) took nearly 25 minutes to arrive after ordering. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Have been there twice, Beehave has great music, drinks and food...what else could you ask for. The lines on the weekends can get long, so get there early.

A pity that this venue, catering to the non-student crowds of Boston (finally), has such a horrid manager and hosting staff. As all of the legitimate reviews written by customers state - the manager (in my case, the man downstairs) is incredibly unprofessional. When my table expanded by one paying dinner customer, we took a chair from an empty table. Manager made my dinner guest stand up, as he said the chair belonged to the empty table. !!! Was he trained for customer service in the Soviet Union? I found amusing the few 5 star reviews that were obviously written by the Beehive management. Plenty of other places in the S End. Mr. Manager, time to shape up!! Doormen - stop making people wait 60-90 minutes only to be forced to stand upstairs (unless bribed). Beehive - home of the Soviet style "service".

Friends getting together that hadn't seen each other in a long time driving 2 hrs to get there. Obviously wanted to catch up and chat while enjoying a fine dinner. First, uncomfortable chairs, worse than sitting at a picnic table. Then waiter asked every 5 minutes literally are you ready to order? No we are drinking wine (aka spending money), catching up, so we then ordered appetizers after a few minutes, and he then asked at the same time would you like to put in your dinner order? No, we wouldn't yet. Obviously the mantra is to turn those tables over at all costs, I've never been hounded by waitstaff so frequently, and to boot more than one, several different ones kept coming by to ask. Then the same thing with clearning the table, paying etc. , They put the bill down and came back every 5 min again to ask if it was all set. When it finally was, the waiter picked it up and didn't even say thank you, just grabbed it and walked away. We spent a bunch of money there and it irked me to pay that bill.... Not a relazing experience. Never again. Totally overrated. Left and went across the street at the "Butcher Chop" for a nightcap, and that was good service, smiling, happy and normal ...... Also, Laurel Grill, very great service and feels like a dining experience. Very disappointing at the Beehive.

Pros: Valet parking, that's about it

Cons: Service, pushy waitstaff, not relaxing

Ambiance/music great.
Service poor, waited for drinks, dinner horrible, fiance and self did not like meals.
Jammie, a hostess, also approached fiance while I was in bathroom, in an aggressive manner (stated she had dated him in the past) I found this unbelievably unprofessional, it aggitated my fiance, and ruined our dinner. We will not go back because of this employee, and because the food was bad.

SO pretentious and SO not worth it! All the snobbery of Manhattan and none of the cool-ness.

My hopes were so high for this place, that's why I continued to go there several times, finally realizing a few weeks ago that it's awful. I think the breaking point was when some little bouncer loser-guy made us stand in line upstairs (once we'd already stood in line outside for a while) and then let a bunch of people go in ahead of us because some guy brown-nosed him.

Why do I think it's so bad? oh, where do I begin?

- poor service. Wait time for a drink borders on ridiculous, one of the worst in Boston;

- pretentious, indifferent attitude from staff (did I say SLOW?), regardless of the fact that this is supposed to be a high-end club;

- they mess around making you wait when the club is empty as if this was really some kind of cool club and not a yuppie NYC wannabe

- poor design for music; supposed to be jazz club, stage is only visible and hear-able from about 1/10th of the club; upstairs is CRAMPED, a barely functional space where you can neither hear or see the band nor stand at the bar without being jostled and shoved by people pushing through the narrow space

- faint mildew smell on lower level;

- not impressed by talent except for Berkelee, NE Conservatory guest player nights

- food mediocre at best

- and last, but not least: awful yuppie crowd, no style or enthusiasm whatsoever. Peppered with middle-age South End empty-nest newcomers, fresh from the suburbs with NO idea how to dress or act

nouveau Boston at its worst! Sorry folks, you still have to head to Wally's (retro) or Cambridge for a real music club."

The Bee hive is a great place to go any night of the week. I love what the owner, Daryl, had done to go the distance to make the surroundings appear and feel like a club that would be found in Nola or New York, or even the left bank....funky, fun and appealing for this busy professional to want to drop in a few times a week after a long day, or after a down town event.
I find it comfortable that the crowd is mostly over 30, the drinks are deliciously fun and I love the grilled artichokes, breaded osyters, and choices of salads. Supreme service and attention to details!!!
I hear brunch is coming around the corner for Sundays too!

Myself and 3 others had dinner at Beehive last night. While the staff was very personable and accommodating, the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. We were sat by the back door in the bar area, which was extremely drafty. The staff made an effort to try to find us another seat, but we would have had to wait at least 1 hour. They were very apologetic. It was so loud that we had to scream across the table..and this is BEFORE the band started playing. The drinks were not good and after ordering the lousy Bavarian Ice Tea and a horrible martini, I gave up and just ordered a glass of pinot grigio..which was warm! I figured they couldn't screw up a glass of wine, but I was wrong. The bibb salad was described as having lettuce, olive oil, and parmesan. What we received was a big chunk of lettuce with some pepper on it. No cheese, and we couldn't taste any olive oil. The paella was adequate though. When we went to the ladies room, it was not clean and there were 2 girls vomitting in the stalls on either side of me!! gross!!

I won't bother to go back...

They make you wait outside in a line, as if you're in New York City and there's a great band inside. And once you get inside, it looks like you stumbled into someone's basement. The exposed-brick thing is done to death in Boston. Atmosphere is minimal. It's crowded. Downstairs is slightly better - more room to get around, but evil workers will continually hassle you to "keep this path clear". How about you design a better floorplan? The music was pretty good - live jazz stuff which I like, but the headliner was over an hour late and by that time we were ready to leave. Bartenders were all right - attentive, fun to talk to. The tables in front of the main stage are a total mess- you'd have 1 person taking up 3 tables for no reason. A little attention from the staff would allow for many more of us who were "in the way" to actually have a seat. I don't recommend this place.

Went on a Friday night...packed. Had a bunch of food, most impressive was the jar of picked veggies that they bring to your table with your dishes. The room is really cool... lots of brick everywhere. People seemed to enjoy themselves. Recommend if you want a cool bar to hang out in and grab a snack.

Pros: Cool place to hang out

Cons: Weekends tend to get too crowded and you end up waiting in line to get in

The atmosphere is great but the music is too loud to have any decent conversation. The manager should be fired. He was not only rude to me and my friends who were just trying to enjoy a couple drinks at the bar, but rude to his staff as well. Obviously doesn't know what customer service is, someone should knock him off his high horse.

I recently went to Beehive and still can't figure out all the hype. The menu was fine, nothing too special but definitely some options. The beer list was weak. I think they had 4 bottles to chose from. I didn't go there to get drunk but they had 4 options and one was Miller Highlife? The wait staff was fine. Our waitress was nice didn't do anything above and beyond her duties. The managment was horrible. The group i was with had a couple questions about the dining area and menu. The manager proceeded to tell us policy is policy and basically if we didn't like it, we could go somewhere else. He didn't seem to realize that if you keep a large group of people happy they will spend a lot more money. I feel bad for the waitress because if her manager was nicer, she probably would have got an extra $20 on top of tip.

I went to this place over the weekend with a party of about 30. We were put in the upstairs right next to the bar. Although our seats were in the bar area we were told numerous times by the owner that we were not allowed to stand. We had two big tables so obviously we were going to be standing up and talking to the other people at the other table. All the people at the bar were allowed to stand but we werent, it just didnt make any sense. We were rushed into ordering by the owner because he wanted to flip the tables, not a good idea when you're serving a group as large as ours. Someone had asked him to give us a few more minutes and he said; I dont need any problems from you guys or you can leave! The owner was so rude that half of the group refused to order anything because we didnt want to give this guy any of our money. I'm really missing what all the hype is about. The menu didnt have anything that stood out and the atmosphere was terrible. I thought I was going to a nice place, and the bill reflected a nice place, but grafitti in the bathrooms? You can write anything you want on the walls of the bathroom, it looked like an old high school bathroom with immature writting on the walls. Also the wait staff looked like they just got off the skate park. One of ours had a mohawk, ear gauges, and was coved in tattoo's real classy. I have no idea what this place is going for but with all th options in the south end this should be your last choice.

I have been a loyal patron of Pho Republique for quite some time now and have NEVER had a bad experience, they have all been fantastic in fact (even when waiting for over an hour, its worth it) so when I heard about Beehive and that it was owned by the same person I couldn't wait to try it. The experience was appauling. While waiting for our table I overheard the manager say to a couple without reservations "its Sat night no reservation, no table, what do you expect?" I grew up in a family with numerous restaurants and have had every job in a restaurant from hostess to bartender so many times I am more "understanding" of off-nights and always give them the benefit of the doubt. The manager at Beehive should be fired immediately, the only saving grace of the night was the apologetic waiter that admitted he was embarassed by his manager's attitude and actions. I can't believe the owners allow him to be the face of the restaurant. Our table wanted to have cocktails first then order, (seems quite normal when out with a group of friends on a Sat night ) when the manager came over and said "I have turned away over 50 people tonight, when you have a reservation you should order immediately." I have never heard of such rules in my life. We actually joked about having a hidden camera on us. The appetizers were nothing special, the fondue was as thin as milk, the mini wellingtons were made from pillsbury cresant roles...I can't say anything about the entree's as we left the restaurant shortly after. I can't seem to understand why a restaurant who's target patrons are young professional's feels the need to treat them so poorly. I have never seen a manager who thought so highly of himself and was so sure of his restaurant. There are far too many fantastic places in Boston to have an attitude like that.

My boyfriend took me to the Beehive on Saturday, 3/1 for a surprise birthday party. I was so excited to not only be going to the Beehive for my first time but to then walk in and see 25 of my closest friends and family was extremely exciting and overwhelming. Unfortunately, immediately after entering into the upstairs bar area my surprise and excitement turned completely sour. The manager on duty (a miserable man) immediately started giving my boyfriend grief about the fact that we all weren't seated and ordering food. My boyfriend kindly informed him that we have all just arrived and that we would like to mingle and catch up with everyone before taking a seat. Now mind you when my boyfriend made the reservation he said we would be drinking and ordering apps. The manager continued to stare everyone down and make them feel completely uncomfortable. His exact words to one of my friends was "Take a seat and shut your mouth." Our intentions were to stay at Beehive all night long drinking & eating. I work in the hospitality industry and I know with 25 young professionals who were all drinking & eating apps the Beehive was looking at about $3,000 + in sales from us. Well.....we quickly ate, paid our bill, tipped out waitstaff graciously (who were more pleasant than the manager) and walked out of there at 8:30PM bringing our business elsewhere. Worst customer service ever by a manager it was absolutely jaw dropping.
