I have been a long time patient/customer at Harvard Sq. Eye Center Porter Sq., and recently moved out of state. Last weekend, while visiting family in Massachusetts my eye was bloodshot red, and I had obvious symptoms of conjunctivitis. I called the office on a Saturday afternoon, and was seen the same night. Not only were the front desk staff pleasant and knowledgeable, the doctor was punctual, accomodating, and helped me with my eye emergency quickly. I am so thankful for Harvard Sq. Eye Care in Porter Sq.

After a disappointing experience at Lenscrafters, a quick Yelp search led me to Harvard Square Eye Care. Initially I was a little put off; despite the company's Web site boasting the largest frame selection in Boston, I found a showroom that was literally smaller than my bedroom. However, a guy came over and asked what I was looking for and, unlike at Lenscrafters, he actually *listened* and was very helpful. He was patient while I tried on frames and made a decision (with the help of my brother and future sister-in-law), and once he began pulling frames I realized that the selection was much better than I had initially thought. I walked out that Saturday afternoon with the guarantee that my new glasses would be ready by the following Tuesday; they were, and they came out fabulously.\r
\r
Given that I walked in with a prescription I cannot comment on the doctors at HSEC, but I would go there in the future simply based on the fact that they accept so many insurance plans. The one major drawback is that they are pricey (my glasses started around $400 then it was an extra $100 for scratch- and reflection-resistant lenses), but the investment was worth it to me, and I wound up with something I really love.

I had such a great experience at Harvard Square Eye Care yesterday it's not even funny. I had been a little hesitant to make an appointment here due to some not so stellar reviews, but ultimately went with HSEC due to their convenient location, the fact that they accept both my forms of insurance, and that their website listed a wide variety of brands of glasses (many of them designer) to choose from. To say that I'm glad that I went here would be an understatement - every aspect of my exam and glasses consult exceeded my expectations!

I found everyone that worked here to be very personable. The doctor was very thorough, and explained to me what was going on with my crappy vision (The glasses I've been wearing every day for the last three years have damaged my vision due to their poor fit; I've also developed an astigmatism). She was patient with me when I couldn't decide which was better, one or two? and was just generally friendly while remaining professional.

The woman who helped me pick out my new frames was also incredibly friendly. She let me go through the cases of eyewear myself, but also handed me different pairs to try on. She was very honest about which frames worked for me and which did not. She was quick to get a sense of what I was looking for, did not try to rush me at all (I basically tried on half a dozen pairs of glasses at least half a dozen times), and suggested the frames that I ultimately chose. I would never have picked them up myself, but they look great on and I love them! She was also really helpful and knowledgeable about lens types and different coatings. She explained the advantages of a polycarbonate lens vs plastic, and why polarized lenses would be ideal for my prescription sunglasses. The best part? She wasn't pushy, and she didn't try to convince me to spend money on treatments that I might not really need. She even chatted with me about her son studying abroad in France and asked me about myself while I was sitting with my pupils dilated, which I really appreciated.

I basically cannot say enough nice things about Harvard Square Eye Care and the people who work there. Oh, did I mention that my glasses will be ready for pick up TOMORROW? Everything about my visit was great; I will definitely be coming back!

I've had good experiences at both the Harvard Square and Porter Square locations of Harvard Square Eye Care. The doctors and staff are professional and patient. I've worn glasses and contacts for over 20 years and I can honestly say that my experience here was excellent.

Dr. D. worked with me to find a pair of glasses that worked with my prescription, face shape and personal style. She must have tried 20 glasses on me before we found a pair that really worked. She told me the first pair that I picked out would not work with my prescription - thereby saving me from the distorted vision that I've always had when wearing glasses. Thank goodness she did! I've had some problems with my contact lenses that require me to wear glasses more often. I can see out of my glasses and I like the way they look!

In my experience the other doctors at Harvard Square Eye Care - and the staff are also professional and patient. They provide excellent care and take the time to explain exactly what is going on.

Now I'm thinking about getting another pair of glasses...

These guys were great. The staff was super friendly and accommodating to my schedule in regards to making an appointment, and were more so when I got to the office. I was seen promptly, and the exam was nice and quick, yet thorough. After the exam, the doctor helped me pick out some frames (offering some helpful advice as to what looked good and what didn't).

I can't comment too much on the price as my insurance, VSP, covered pretty much everything; I had to pay a bit more for the lenses I got, but that was to be expected. At any rate, I have no complaints about these guys, and would definitely go back for my future eye care needs!

This is honestly the best eye care experience I have ever had. I went in because I saw their huge selection on the website. It turns out my prescription is 3 years old and no longer valid. I got a full exam and with my insurance ended up paying $10 for an exam. But the part that blew me way was their willingness to help me right then and there. Once we discovered my prescription wasn't valid they told me to go have a cup of coffee and they would squeeze me into the booked schedule in 20 minutes. I was floored. The exam was the most in depth vision test I have ever done. Once the exam was over I was brought out front and offered help by an optician to pick glasses. The selection here is fantastic. Tons of unique frames I have never seen anywhere else. Believe me I have looked. While looking the gentleman helping me(Clark) noticed the nose-pad on my own pair needed replacing. Before I knew it he had my glasses and was back with a new nose-pad for me. I was in a rush that day and couldn't shop for frames. I also wanted to bring my girlfriend back to help me decide. When I told him this I expected him to become curt and disinterested in helping me. That was not the case. He said he would write down the frames I had picked out in a book that way if I decided to come back there would be a record. I asked how much I owed for the repair and he refused to let me pay. 1 week later I came back with my girlfriend and I picked a frame I never would have chosen on my own but looks amazing. When we were done I was told in 2-3 days I would have new glasses. 2 hours later I was called to come and pick up my completed order. WHAT!? It turns out Clark had to make a trip to the lab in porter square that afternoon on unrelated business. The glasses were completed while he was there. I work across the street and had new glasses back the same day! I have never been more impressed with a purchase like this in my life.

In the need for some new glasses before years end I found Harvard Square Eye Care under Boston Magazine's Best of Boston. I figured I would give 'em a try as my last eye doctor was just OK with service and selection. I was very happy with their doctors, excellent caring services and they had a good selection of glasses. I found that their prices were reasonable. I never had better vision with my new progressive lenses (now sure what they put in for lenses but they are awesome). While I was there I also got fitted for contacts (turns out they were less than on line prices). I will most certainly be coming back again next year. If vision is important and you want great serivce and great products I highly recommend them.

Phenomenal Physician! Beautiful facility! VERY EXPENSIVE - in reference to the SALES staff (and yes they are salesmen) as the level of professionalism was shaky at best, the cost of my glasses almost gave me heart failure and the fact that the $900 quote didn't seem to phase the attendant makes me think perhaps that figure is an average.... I felt like I was buying a used car from the sketchiest of shysters!

I travel all the way from the suburbs to go to Harvard Square Eye Care. Both the Dr. and her husband (at Porter Sq) are always very friendly and accommodating. The staff at both locations are also great! I always feel like I am treated with integrity and respect. It is the only place I trust for me and my family.

My daughter and I were recently in the Cambridge area when my daughter's glasses broke. We were in desperate need of replacements, because she was off to summmer camp in 3 days. In seeking help we were very fortunate to find Harvard Square Eye Care . The friendly doctor gave my daughter an exam on the spot and the optician did a great job patching her frames back together. The Optician helped her pick out a beautiful French frame that looks fabulous on her. We received the glasses the next day so my daughter was all set for her fun in the sun trip. We had an excellent experience with the entire staff and the service was great! I will continue to recommend Harvard Square Eye Care to all my friends.

After having a long and hopeless search for eye care and accessories I stumbled across Harvard Square eye care. I am a single father of 3 children(2 boys, 1 girl) and a new comer to the Boston area and trips to the eye doctors are a regular for me. When I arrived at the porter square location which gave us a very warm and comfortable feeling we were greeted by the doctor who helped out with every question we had. Going above and beyond to seek the answers which left me very satisfied. When picking frames its always hard to choose where to go. My children were pleased with the selection as was I. Again I know how hard it can be to get a good pair of frames as well as all the trouble it takes on getting them right. However the people at Harvard Square eye care assisted me with the quality care they strive to promote. I recommend family, friends and anyone else who seeks quality eye care to come here.

This family operates a rather dishonest business. I was there on two different days with two different daughters. At the Harvard Square store, Daughter #1 was given an eye exam (without dilation of pupils by request), and was told the charge was $65 for which she owed a copay of $10. So far so good. We then went to Porter Square to choose frames. She chose a pair of Ogi frames and Mr. D. (husband of Dr. D) quoted $395 with a 10% discount. The lenses were $150; total with tax just over $500. Two days later, I went back to the Harvard Sq. store with Daughter #2; she was quoted $110 for the basic exam (the same exam - no dilation- that cost $65 for Daughter #1), $75 for the contact lens exam and $75 to suggest a new brand of contact. She has no insurance coverage for optometrists. When asked for an explanation of the discrepancy between the two prices for the basic exam, Dr. D rudely told me that we could leave as she had other patients and did not have time to deal with us. Daughter #2 kept the brand she had and paid $185 for the exam. This unpleasant encounter led me to question the price on Daughter #1's glasses. Other places in Cambridge were selling the same glasses for less: one quote was $230, the other $249; she paid $355. Back at Porter Square, Mr. D said that their price was not incorrect. My daughter said that she then would like to return the glasses, at which point, Mr. D called Dr. D and asked her what to do. She said to meet the lower price. After calling the other company, Mr. D reimbursed my daughter $125. Yes, a gain, but we still paid $45 more for Daughter #2's eye exam and I can't help but wonder if the charge of $150 for Daughter #1's lenses was not also excessive. The lesson of our experience is to check out prices before buying frames and call around to see what the fees are for exams before scheduling an appointment. This experience leads me to strongly suggest anyone looking for a fair deal avoid this ""family business"".
