.

A Cambridge public library card is a ticket to an extremely large and diverse collection of books (including cookbooks and travel guides) and movies, discounted museum passes (www.cambridgema.gov/cpl/programs/museum.html), and the resources of several other libraries in the Minuteman network. The online system makes it easy to renew and reserve books and the librarians are really helpful if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. If you're extremely antisocial, however, they have an express lane for self-checkout.

I can't ever walk past the Cambridge Main Library without smiling. The renovated space (which reopened in late 2009) is absolutely gorgeous. They offer tours of space regularly, so check it out. The new library features an underground parking deck and is flanked by some pretty awesome park space. There are always people hanging out on the front lawn or playing on the playground, which contributes to the neighborhood-y feel just steps away from Harvard Yard.
