Had never been to Maxwell Silverman's - brought friends from out of town.
Enjoyed a good cocktail - had scallops wrapped in bacon - which were decent. Salad and soup course was good...we were enjoying everything and then got our meals.

I had a chicken dish made with cheese and cooked in a pastry shell - what was described as below:
"Boursin Chicken $21.
Chicken breast wrapped in flaky puffed pastry filled with asparagus and Boursin cheese, baked until golden brown drizzled with Honey Mustard"

The puffed pastry was flat, half cooked and gooey. The "honey mustard" was basically a squirted line of Guldens. The asparagus was way raw and the tips were scorched. I decided after one bite to just eat the chicken and scraped away the goo and raw veggies. The first bite of just chicken was atrocious. It was like eating a piece of a rubber eraser.

When I sent it back the waitress' comment was that, "it was like that because they had to cook the patry shell." She recommended I try the Chicken Broccoli Rosetta (pasta) dish...which I unfortunately did. I cut into the chicken tenderloin in the dish (while my company looked on - as they were now done eating) and the chicken was pink, glistening and raw in the center.
I had everyone elseat my table look and they agreed it was raw. Folks, I spent many years as a line cook (worked my way through college) - I know raw chicken...I also tend to be very forgiving of mishaps, because I know how tough the job can be.

The waitress response to my new complaint was: "That's just how our chicken looks..." Really?!

When the manager finally pulled himself away from his visit wiith friends at a nearby corner table - he first walked by us and went into the kitchen. When he came to our table he stated that he had, "...just saw the chicken in the kitchen and it was fully cooked..." AND when I disagreed, "...I can bring it out and show it to you if you would like..."
I read the insider pages review about bad managment and agree completely. The other comments to the contrary must be the exception and not the rule.

Seriously?! Wow. What great customer service! Basically, what I was told was: it is how it is and you are wrong.

Needless to say, I will never go back. We left for dessert and coffee elsewhere and had a great night out in spite of our experience at Maxwell Silvermans "toolhouse". My recommendation to them - buy the one tool you obviously don't have in house: a food thermometer.

Now I know why they were at 1/2 capacity on a Saturday night...

To the person who wrote the comment about Maxwell's management being poor let me tell you that you are dead wrong! How can you even say that this gentleman does not care about anything? do you know him at all? My company and I have been doing business at Maxwell's and thru Alex and let me tell you that our experience has been nothing but pleasant all the way! He treats everyone fairly and that is the reason we and many other people keep coming back to Maxwell's and Club Maxine's. Please do not offend the credibility of an individual on a forum like this one, normally i would have never posted anything anywhere good or bad but your comments angered me to this point. Honestly your comments definatly will never affect Mr. Giordanos business or the credibility of the G.M. The things that they have done for me, my family and our business and for many others solidifies their reputation as caring individuals who do not need this kind of comments to try and ruin their day. Maxwells still shines!!

Pros: good non pretencious management

An okay experience has turned into an awful one due to the uninterested and uncommitted General Manager, Alex. He seemed like he did not care about my function or patronage. I had my rehearsal dinner there.

I attended a college in Worcester that uses Maxwell Silverman's for some events and I thought it would be a good place to be. The food was okay, but the service was incredibly lacking. The bartender took forever to make the drinks and forgot many of them. ("What did you have again?") My guests had to clear their own plates and we never even got refills on drinks.

The worst part is that I heard from my wife and some of my guests (after the event) that there was a mouse in the dining room. It was running around near the waitstaff and they did not even seem to notice! I called and spoke with Alex after we got back from our honeymoon. He said he would "look into it" and I didnt hear back from him for nearly a week until I called him. He promised a partial refund, which we have not received after weeks of waiting and multiple phone calls and emails to him.

Don't bother wasting your money or time with this place, go somewhere else!

Pros: Okay Food

Cons: Management, Bad Service, Rodents

This was our first time eating here (Brunch) and will most certainly be our last. To begin with the food is not that good, I am a chef and this stuff wouldnt be up to par in a respectable greasy spoon. The help were either rude or dismissive with the exception of the older gentleman that greeted us. The guests were just as rude as the help but I guess you cant expect to much from Rhode Islanders or Worcesterians. A couple of woman (typical) thought nothing about jumping in line ahead of others without so much as a "pardon me" or "do you mind". I would have preferred to stay at home and cook our own little brunch, in fact I think that is what we will do from now on until we can find places worthy of our patronage. PS... Dont you wonder why no one else has reviewed this place since 2007?

A fun place to visit - with decent food. Service has been hit or miss. For the food quality it often seems a little over priced.
Decent buffets at holidays.
Great atmosphere - located in the top of an old mill building so decent history to look at.
Parking can be tough during the day but easy by night.

A group of us were at Maxwell Silverman's Sunday Brunch and it was beyond our expectations. The building is amazing, the decor appealing and the food outstanding. The service by Ben was exceptional and he was always there with whatever we needed. Table was cleared quickly so never had the look of empty plates. The array of food was beyond expectation and everything was "hot:" if it was supposed to be hot and "cold" if it was intended to be cold. The decor in the room we were in was bright and attractive, the seating was comfortable and everyone in our party of 13 said they would definately be back.
Congratulation to Bill Appleby and his staff for going above and beyond to make this a delicious and memorable experience. Everyone should try the Brunch.

Maxwell Silverman's Restaurant. Over 30 years in business and it just doesn't get any better in Worcester [or surrounding area] for Fine Food, Great Service from a Great staff, and Week-end Entertainment of Song & Dance. A great DJ playing our favorite songs from the 70's on up with dance floor and Disco Ball and lighting, which I might add there is never a cover charge for. The menu is loaded with everything from appetizers to veal and if you leave this restaurant hungry, it's your own fault. We recently went to celebrate a friends birthday and the Pork Special was incredible! It melted away from the bone and into the mouth, Highly recommend. The Bar area is a wonderful place to meet new people on the week ends and the bartenders are among the most competent and friendly as you'll ever meet. 30 Years in Worcester, they must be doing something right! Want to impress that special date? I'd go to Maxwell's for a great time and when they see the ambiance of this restored old factory building with it's old machinery as part of the decor, it'll be an instant success I'm sure. Simply one of the Best restaurants you'll ever go to.

I went for a rehearsal dinner and I've seen so much confusion in my life. We actually walked up and down 2 floors 3 times before the staff figured out where we were supposed to be. There was one cocktail waitress for 50 people so it took forever to get a drink. The people, especially the bartender downstairs and the host were extremely rude. I coudn't believe because the place seemed so nice. Then to top it off they forgot to charge for the champagne toast so they made the last person there pay 150.00 on his credit card instead of contacting the people who were paying for it all. I would never go back here and I certainly would not have my rehearsal dinner here. You do not need that aggravation the day before you get married.
