This Budget truck rental location in Niles is completely unreliable. That said, Budget itself came through and refunded the difference between the cost of the truck I reserved, and the one I had to rent in its place. I needed to rent a truck to help my son move on Easter Sunday (4/8/2012). Many places arent open on Sunday, let alone Easter, so I called and spoke to Dennis on 3/30/2012 before I made my online reservation. He assured me they would be open on Easter, as long as I picked up my truck early since that location is only open for a short window of time on Sunday mornings (which is weird, and not what the online reservation system shows but whatever). An early pickup wasnt a problem, so I booked online. I called back to reconfirm on 4/2/2012 and Dennis told me to be there between 8:30-9:00 AM. On Sunday morning, we got to the location between 8:15 and 8:20. No one was there. I made my first of 9 phone calls at 8:28, leaving multiple voice mail messages. We finally gave up at 9:10 and luckily were able to get a truck at Home Depot, but for 40 cents per mile more than my online reservation with Niles Truck Rentals. We got no phone calls back, so I called at 7:30 AM on 4/9/2012 to complain. Dennis said the person who was supposed to be there was sick. I understand that this can happen, but how about a phone call, or an apology? Someone who rents trucks for a living has to know that typically people have scheduled pick ups and drop offs, have lined up friends to help, etc. Dennis couldnt have cared less. I asked about the absolutely guaranteed reservation he mentions on his voice mail message. I told him I wanted to know what that guarantee entailed, since I felt they did not live up to the guarantee, and we paid a lot more for the alternative rental. Basically, the guarantee is meaningless. He said Ive got 6 trucks sitting here right now. Thats nice. They were there yesterday too, but no one was around to give us the keys to the truck we reserved, and the next day everyone we lined up to help is at work. But it gets better 45 minutes later, Dennis called me back and left a voice mail saying that he looked at his notes from my phone call earlier in the week, and that hed told me to be there between 8:00 and 8:30, and since we werent, we lost our reservation. I called him back to tell him he was ridiculous. Hadnt he just told me the guy that was supposed to be there was sick? Plus, we were there before 8:30 anyway. I made my first phone call at 8:28, after wed been waiting in the parking lot for a while. Niles Truck Rental is a very unreliable business and should be thrown out of the Budget network.

I made reservation on line for this place for Sunday 9am. Drove by the day before to figure out where to leave my car after truck pick up. Noted a different phone number written on the door and called to confirm the reservation with the actual person. Dennis told me he is not going to be there at 9am and I need to come between 8am and 8:30. Fine. I did that, but when I was ready to leave I asked where are the pads (10dollars for a dozen moving pads reserved on line) he was surprised. It looked like it was going to take some time for him to produce the pads so I told him to skip it. I thought I can do without pads. \r
I returned the truck the same day, but called next morning and left messages for Dennis and the main number of the Niles Trucks Rental asking for a call back - I left some bungee cords in the ttruck. Dennis did not return the calls. I called another day and asked what my total charge was, but he did not reply either. I sent an email to Reservations at Budget asking the same, but message bounced back. Today I called Dennis again-no answer. I called main number for the Budget and spoke to Kyle that my total for the rental was suspiciously high (over 70dollars). He explained that I was charged for the pads even if I did not use them. I asked why should that be if Dennis did not know about the reserved pads and did not give them to me. Kyle called Dennis and ""reversed the charge for the pads"", but gave me pretty high total of the charges. I asked him why is my total so high and he said I am being charged for cleanup: I did not fold the pads. Again I had to explain that I did not get any pads and Kyle called Dennis again. After that Kyle ""reversed the cleanup charges"" but my total was still nearly 70 dollars. I asked him for the line by line explanation and all of the sudden a ""mileage tax"" of 7 bucks was identified on my account. When I asked Kyle was that tax on my total when I called - he could not answer. Apparently Dennis wanted to recover whatever he lost in the reversed pad charges, so he dumpted another charge on my account. Kyle did not want to deal with a dissapointed customer, so he told me that he is going to reverse that tax too, but I warned him that this is fraudulent activity and I will write a bad review for Dennis's Niles Trucks Rental and Budget that utilizes such a dealer.\r
So in a nutshell: watch for overcharges. My estimated total at the time of online reservation was less than 48 bucks, so I fugured that without the pads my total would be around 38 dollars. The 70+ dollars on the credit card stunned me. I am glad I called the 866 Budget number to clear this.

We had to help a friend move a while back and we weren't sure how much of her stuff we would be taking so we chose to rent a van rather than a truck. It was hard to locate a moving van, this was one of the few places that had them available. The transaction went smoothly and the van was nice and clean.
