I have taken several guests on the architectural boat tour, and it is a great way to see the city. Guides are well informed and you are free to walk around the boat on the top deck or inside. Last time we went, there was a terrible thunderstorm, so we couldn't go out into the lake, just stayed in the canals. Either way, you get to see a side of Chicago that is interesting and beautiful. Catch the boat at Wacker & Michigan, and have a ball! Highly recommend this to any tourist or any resident!
