Penny's is a must-stop whenever we are in Chicago. The food is great. The restaurant itself is a cozy little spot, but it's easy to get to (right near the L in Wrigleyville). I usually get something different each time I'm there, and I've never been disappointed.

Penny's is a great little Thai restaurant. Eventhough, I live across town now, I still will travel way across town for my favorite dish Pad Se Ew Chicken & Gyoza. I have tried other Thai restaurants but they make the best!

This was always a regular spot for me when I lived nearby. It is located near the L and is in a somewhat noisy location, but the food is great. I love all of their noodle dishes. It is a good spot for people watching as well. I recommend trying this if you are looking for a casual spot in Wrigleyville.

I'm not sure if I'd had a lot of Thai food before I had Penny's. What I do know is that I've had a lot of Thai food since Penny's--and nothing has compared. Nothing. Penny's does everything right. From the affordable menu to the fast, friendly service, it can't be beat. For me, the Pad Se Ew dish is legendary. I have so many fond college memories of snagging a table with friends and co-workers, opening a bottle of wine from across the street, and leaving so full that I might burst. Penny's is small and charming. There are a few locations in Chicago, but this one is my most favorite. Please go, and go again, and go again, and go again. Do it. For me.

Pros: Food, Service

Cons: Only in Chicago

I love this place it has great food and at great prices. It is byob and there is no corkage fee, so perfect for an inexpensive date. They offer mild dishes too super spicy, my favorites our the bbq pork and the spicy chicken basil. The food portion size is large, you can probably even share the entrees.

We got takeout from Penny's based on the advice of some friends. The pad thai was ok but it didn't have really rich flavors, nor did it actually taste like Pad Thai. My wife had the wonton soup which was good but also lack rich flavors. Compared to Chen's, which is just down the street (and more expensive), Penny's was unimpressive. However, given the price it was pretty good.

I've been eating at Penny's for years. It's a great way to introduce people to Thai cuisine. Cheap, fun, and quick. The food is very good, especially Gyoza and Chicken Satay. One of my favorites is hot pepper noodle with chicken and long tofu. The tofu soaks up the spice. You can also order your food extra spicy.

It's cheap and fast. However, the food lacks flavor. Probably the worst Pad Thai I've ever had. Cozy Noodles & Rice has much better food at the same low prices.

I've been eating at Penny's for years now, and love it every time! I take my grandmother in the afternoons when parking isn't a problem. We love the Chinese Greens appetizer, and both get the Beef Lad Nar with 1/2 watercress and 1/2 broccoli. Everything tastes great, the food is always hot and fast, the people are always friendly! Definitely worth the commute from the 'burbs!

The food was not good. I started out with the vegetable rolls, which were by far...the greasiest egg rolls that I have ever eaten...anywhere. Then I had the sliced chicken noodles. The chicken was dry, the noodles were flavorless, the food was just plain not good.

Penny's is amazing - quality food. I have never been disappointed and I have been there at least once a week. On Sunday mornings you can get in and out in minutes. It;s so nice that even the owner talks to you while you're waiting. Great place!

Penny's is to Thai as McDonald's is to Burgers or Chipotle is to Mexican. It's clean, popular, predictable, but rather boring. Chicago is such a fantastic city for Thai food, it's amazing that Penny's is so popular with the Wrigleyville denizens. Perhaps it's because there are no surprises, it's part of a chain of restaurants, and there's nothing the least bit ethnic about it. The food is fresh, but not too spicy. The best thing about Penny's is the value for the money; otherwise, you can do much better at the many smaller Thai restaurants owned and run by Thai people.

Pros: Value, Cleanliness, Consistency

I have been going to penny's almost since they opened. I live in the suburbs over an hour away and we still try to make it up there once a week and by the way it is very romantic. The best value anywhere and the food is consistently great!!

Pros: inexpensive, great food, quickly seated

Penny's is a great place for people to go eat "Thai" if they've never heard of Pad Thai or Green Curry. The quality of food is great but the taste is very mediocre -- it lacks authenticity and most of all spice. Penny's is a great Pan-Asian restaurant, but I can think of 5 other restaurants in the city that deserve the award for Chicago's best Thai restaurant.

When I went I ordered pad thai. usually I like it crispy and many resturants for whatever reason will not throw the pad thai in a frying pan. penny's does! the pad thai was made with wide noodles (so they wouldnt sdtick to the pan) and it was so yummy! The Tom Kha Kai soup is also the best that I have had. Our server was very sweet and prompt. i totally recommend this place to anyone.. bring your kids too! it's a happening place!

Don't know what all the fuss about noodles is, I can buy them at a grocery store and make them at home for a whole lot less money and make them taste a whole lot better!

I have never had a bad meal at Penny's. It is hand-down the best BYOB restaurant on the North Side. The down-side: It gets a bit crowed a lot but that doesn't mean a small group ever has to wait too long.

This is the tastiest noodle place ever! The fact that it's ridiculously cheap is a huge bonus. Noodles and soup in a bowl big enough to wear as a hat, fast service and a tidy place equals good eatin's for me!

Penny's serves a watered-down, Americanized version of Thai food, not the real thing. The Red Curry Chicken I ordered was interesting -- it had a definite ginger flavor -- but was not what I'm used to. Still, the food is fresh and very inexpensive -- nothing on the menu is over $6.

I like how the El rolls right over this location, even though it gets a little loud at times. It's BYOB, but if you forget, there is a liquor store right up the street with beer, wine and all. The food here was very good, and very inexpensive. The spring rolls were fresh and tasty, while the curry dishes were sweet and spicy. I love coconut milk with curry. I think the average price for an entree was around $7. The staff was very attentive. We had to wait for an outdoor table, but we were glad we did.

This has quickly become a Chicago favorite. The food is great, the service is friendly and the prices are unreal. It gets a little crowded inside in the winter, but in the summer the seating expands outside onto the sidewalk and things open up a bit.
