In Short
Though more popular for delivery and takeout than dine-in service, Pete's has a simple, spacious, cafeteria-like dining room with a tile floor and hunter-green booths. Thin-crust pizza is the specialty here; the crust is firm, crisp and barely brushed with tomato sauce, putting the emphasis on ingredients like giardiniera, spinach, pineapple and anchovies. The restaurant also offers stuffed pies (allow one hour) and an ample selection of pastas, sandwiches and entree plates.

This is by far the best delivery pizza

by NataliK

I've found that asking for the pizza well done or crispy gets me exactly what I want. Toppings taste fresh, frankly I like this place.

Pros: Quick service. Cheap prices. Great food.

Good food but i dont know about the din

by bloemkemom

I really like the food but I had no idea that the dinning room was crazy from what I have read. I guess it a place to order for delivery only.

NOISY and OUT OF CONTROL CHILDREN

by TLynnS

We are parents and enjoy family friendly restaurants. Pete's however has completely lost control of their dining room and we will never return. Apparently, they have a lot of kids sports teams and youth groups that host group dinners at the restaurant and they allow them to RUIN the dining experience for everyone else in the place. Tonight there were kids running around, yelling and playing heavy metal music on the juke box. The combination of that and the acoustics in their tile floored dining room made for easily the most miserable dinner that we have had in a long time. We gave feedback to Tina, the manager, who was nice enough and apologized, but couldn't even go so far as to buy us a drink (a diet coke?) for our troubles. The staff was nice, the food is decent and the free parking is nice, but the dining room was a disaster and we will never return.

Worst ever!! Stay away.

by sandybr

I would have given this place no stars, but one star was the lowest rating I could give. I used to order take out and occasionally picked up food there, but never again. I loved the rude lady that used to take your order over the phone. She was rude and saucy, but darn it she never ever got your order wrong. The food was always great and exactly what you wanted. I drove by and stopped in for lunch several months ago, I wish I knew enough to keep driving. I noticed the remodeling, and thought it was a nice change so I stopped for lunch with a friend. They should post a huge sign on the door that says under new management- run away. We assumed it was the same old pete's, great food at a great price. This was bad, disgusting food, at higher prices. I felt sorry for the waiter, he had a look on his face that said "sorry" before he even took our order. We should have run for the door, but we resisted the urge. We both hated our meals, even the soft drink we were served was flat. I ordered the linguini with clams, which I used to order all the time, used to be good. It was the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted. It was inedible and after attempting a bite, I was not able to swallow it and tossed it right back out into my napkin. It was basically pasta boiled with clams with no seasoning and no type of sauce whatsoever. Stay away, the food is gross.

Pros: nothing good about the place, the staff, or the food

Cons: read the pros

I liked it ...

by forbes668

This was a treat for me to go to Petes. I am from the Southside and I have family on the northside, my uncle used to take me where when i was little and now im 23 and love going there. I understand people concern for the declining lack of quality... since the new owners its not as "hospitable". I LOVE the food though, and i always have. As far as i know they have not changed the recipes, and i LOVE the cheese bread, OH MAN, i def. recommend that!! :) The place is really cute inside for being a pizza place, very modern looking.

I have never had any problem with the waiters/waitress. They have always been EXTREMELY nice and helpful!! The bread they give you before your meal is SOOOO good! nice and warm and soft and fresh... and the pizza (i think its the sauce that won me over- sweet and very good!!) is great!!

i will still continue to go there, i love it... i understand peoples concerns, OH and the bathroom is never "dirty" when ive been there!! I dont know what yall are talkin about?!?!

TRY IT, make your own decisions on he place... but the food... IS SOOO GOOD! :)

yummmm

Pros: food taste is GREAT!

Cons: sometimes its chilly inside :/

Never Again!!

by rdona3625

We ordered from Pete's last night at 6:58p.m. It was finally delivered at 9:00p.m. During the time we were waiting we called 3 times to find out where it was since we live less than 1 mile and delivery used to be within an hour. We were told twice it would be there in 10 minutes. The last time we were told it was just leaving. When we finally received it, it was so cold the cheese on the pizza was hard. We called back and was told they would come get the pizza and they would return our money. What good was that? We were starving at that point. WE WILL NEVER ORDER FROM PETE'S AGAIN. I do not know what has happened to them over the years as it used to be one of our favorites. The food was terrible as was the service and problem resolution. For thin crust pizza I suggest you order from Gigio's on Broadway or Pat's on Lincoln and for thick crust Lou Malnati's.

Pros: I can't think of any

Cons: Everything

Not a family place, anymore.

by wildonion

Well, first off, its not a family place.<> Secondly, the food is good. not great, not bad. If you want to be mistreated by the waitresses, go to the last bastion of non-smoke free, non- filtered, no ventilation restaurants and experience the joy of going into a bathroom without it being clean, (graffiti, no hot water, holes in the counters, mold in all the tile, mud and stuff all over the floor, and camera holes!) and have a bunch of police officers throw the f-bomb around you while your family experiences the joys of blasting music, one serving of bread, and people who obviously are so hungry for good Italian in Chicago that they would venture into anywhere, then GO Here. Otherwise, buy a can of Franco American (now known as Cambell's) Spaghetti and a some Parm cheese from Jewel and fry it with alot of butter, it'll be better than the tasteless meatballs and pasta, Nolo-, Al Dente, doesn't happen here.

Didn't eat the pizza, no such thing as gravy here, sauce was an obvious mass produced, did I mention how crappy the service was ? very crappy. one star, I was very hungry.

Lotsa of people I know rave about the place, its actually a pit.

WORST RESTAURANT

by petey60616

The food and service are horrible. I live in the neigborhood. I noticed that many people are stopped going there. Trust me, don't go there. The most important thing is if you order and pick your food up, pay with cash. If you paid by credit card, they will add the tips themselves. Trust me, it happened to me and my friends.

What happened to Petes?

by groovychiguy

I have been eating and enjoying Pete's Pizza for over a decade....What happened? The last four or five times I have ordered from them the pizza has been awful....the sauce is virtually nonexistent and the taste was bland at best.

I have no idea what has gone wrong with this neighborhood staple....It is so sad that the quality has gone down so drastically.....I am bummed....I have never written a complaint about any restaurant in the past and I joined this site just in the hopes that whatever is wrong with Petes can hopefully be corrected....For the moment I wouldn't recommend this pizza to anyone I like...lol.

Pros: I have found other pizza joints

Cons: I spent money on such a horrible pizza that at one time used to be soooo good!

Avoid at all costs!

by paojw

The pizza here is bland and unexceptional. The quality of the food declined dramatically with the change of ownership a few years ago. A neighborhood institution turned into just another faceless italian restaurant.

Pros: Clean family restaurant

Cons: Unremarkable food

Great Family Restaurant

by lechonboy

Pete's is a great family restaurant. Besides fantasic pizza they have a great selection of soups, sandwiches and dinner plates. I hope they don't forget they are a family restaurant and not a sports bar.

Pros: Parking , Decor, Service

Pete's pizza has a new look, a full bar with big screen tv's almost sports barish, loud and adult atsmophere
the service is better than ever.
they also have a new and better menu
try the roast pork with mashed potatoes or the bucket o wings with the new beers on tap. they have really reinvented themselves. it has become a great place for dates
or to watch a game and be as loud as you want.

Pros: less kids

Best thin crust in chicago.....

by dmartinez730

We've been ordering from Pete's for years; the thin crust is great, although we order it with extra sauce, the flavor is fantastic, and the price is reasonable.

first time delivery stuffed pizza order

by giuliaa

May 8, 2005 around 2:45 P.M. recieved pizza. Delivery was prompt. The 10in stuffed pizza I orded could feed 6 people! I loved that it was a TRUE stuffed cheese pizza and not a double dough pizza, which some pizza joints claim to be their "stuffed" pizza. The taste of the pizza was very bland. There was no "zest" to the cheese or sauce. The pizza also had VERY LITTLE sauce on the pizza! This Pizza needs: MORE FLAVOR, MORE ZEST, AND MORE SAUCE! Not worth $14.90 (delivery charge included).

Pros: True Stuffed pizza, prompt delivery, 10 in stuffed feeds 6

Cons: No flavor to sauce, Little sauce, No zest

This pizza travels well

by Mommkf

Some pizzas are great at the restaurant, but when you order them from home they arrive completely unrecognizable at your home. Pete's has home-delivery and pick up down to a science. A perfect pizza evry time and quickly. I hope that the recent change of ownership doesn't change the recipe. The sauce is what made this pizza better than most. Always order t with extra sauce!

Pros: Fast, Inexpensive, Clean

Cons: New ownership

So Homey and GOOD! Worth every cent!

by angeee

I ALWAYS frequent Pete's, during the week and weekends. I cannot say how many times I have taken everyone I know who had not tried Pete's and they LOVED it! They are VERY reasonable in price, especially when it comes to dinners. For example, a rib dinner will cost around $12 and comes with a small pasta dish, salad, soup & potato! The deep dish pizza has cheese GALORE! The service was great! And the atmosphere is very comfortable, one of the reasons I like it. You can go with jeans or dressed up, this place does not judge. I would highly recommend it for the ribs (fall off the bone) and dee dish pizza~ but be warned that the deep dish takes 45 min. to bake so order some drinks & appetizers beforehand!

Pros: Dinners worth the $, Deep dish awesome, Comfy/family atmos.

Cons: Closes too early

Great Pizza, poor service

by cpfoutz

Pete's is my standby pizza and one of my favorites, yet I go here despite the service.
The thin crust pizza is great...sausage is flavorful, lots of cheese and sauce with a perfectly cooked flaky crust. Service is poor...I feel like I'm intruding when I ask for anything, it takes 15 minutes to get a drink and many times my appetizer is cold by the time I get it. However, they never compromise the pizza, as it always comes out fresh and hot. Figure on a 2 hour dinner if you eat here.

Pros: great pizza, great sausage, heavy toppings

Cons: poor service, long time to eat

Horrible service...

by kleec

Some of the food is good, the pizza's been good the few times I've been there but the service is horrible. Where do they get these people? I don't go there anymore and a co-worker of mine has stopped going there for the same reason. And that's the closest Italian restaurant to where she lives so it's not good.

Pros: pizza's good

The pizza is good and the rest of the food items are just okay. Also, they are expensive, so come for some pizza, but do not pay for the other food cause it is not worth it!

Pros: Friendly staff, pizza good

Cons: , other food is okay

A Longtime Favorite

by chicagokid

I started going to Pete's in the late 70's when they were just a small place. I grew up eating their pizza. After I moved to the burbs, when in town I would always pick up one to take home. I like the good sized real sausage pieces rather than just a sprinkle, just right thin crust and the flavor of the sauce. I don't need mine too fancy. I've been to a lot of popular places in Chicago & the burbs that are good but Pete's will always be a favorite of mine unless they change too much.
I live in Tx now and try to stop in whenever I visit. They don't have a clue down here. Italian beef sandwiches are hard to find as well as good tasting independent local pizza. It's not like Chicago.

Pros: pizza, real sausage, prompt delivery

And the Title Goes To ...

by mitchje

... Pete's, with the best thin-crust pizza I've had in many years of effortful sampling among the greats of Chicago pizza. Even if they are now part of the Suparossa chain, Pete's is what Pete's is, and that means they get two things dead right every time: the crust (crispt but just chewy enough to wrestle with a little bit) and sauce (bright, alive and tasting like it was made out of real tomatoes, with some acidic tanginess to it). Plus the delivery is quick, even for Logan Square, a good 3 miles from the restaurant. I've found my "joint" for pizza!

Pros: Extraordinary crust, Super good sauce, Great delivery

mmmmm... Pete's

by cejordan

This is simply the best thin crust pizza in the city. I recently learned that Pete's was undergoing some changes, and I started to panic! My fears were put to rest when I was assured by the weathered delivery man (who has worked there for 12 years!) that the recipe shall not change. Whew!

Pros: Great pizza, Cheap, Parking Lot

So-so Italian food

by dan_in_lakeview

In addition to pizza, this restaurant serves your standard, traditional Italian fare. Now, I grew up with a Sicilian grandmother who made her spaghetti sauce from scratch, using ingredients grown in her garden (tomatoes, basil, parsley, etc.). Whenever I eat Italian food, I compare the sauce to hers. Well, sorry to say this, but the sauce at Pete's isn't even close. It tastes rather bland and American. The one time I had pizza here it was forgettable, as well. If you don't mind mediocre Italian food, however, you can put together a really cheap meal here consisting of, say, a small bowl of minestrone soup with a side of spaghetti for just a couple bucks.

Pros: Good parking, Large dining room

Cons: So-so food, Only open evenings

My Staple Delivery

by nathanstull_citysearch

Whenever I order a pizza, it's from Pete's. They make a great thin-crust pie and the ingredients are always good, especially the sausage. Be careful of getting garlic on your pizza though, because they use the raw kind and it's over-powering, even for garlic lovers. I also like collecting my 20 coupons for a free pizza.

Pros: Thin-crust

Cons: Raw garlic
