The ice cream tastes horrible and is overpriced. The goods are bought in stock at a grocery store and then the plastic is taken off and they say it is "homemade." It's a disgrace to ice cream places. Also, the atmosphere is awkward since the waitresses and waiters just stand at the counter and stare at you since no one ever goes in.

Summit has it all! The ice cream is made on site by trained artisans who take suggested flavors from customers and actually make them. I requested chocolate brownie one day, and it was available a few days later. The employees write the suggestions/requests on one of the ice cream cabinets with a china marker, and the ice cream makers make those flavors that the owner deems worthy of the Summit name. The free live music is professional quality and is performed on the small stage every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 7:30-10:30PM. My favorites are Lost In Song, a bluegrass trio from Lake Bluff, and The Lake County Chamber Players. The owner told me that he has had Starbuck's employees tell him that thay like Summit's coffee and espresso drinks better than the "big guy's". The antique furniture that adorns the large seating area is all for sale at rediculously reasonable prices. This nut-free zone has allowed many families that have members with nut allergies to enjoy ice cream parlor ice cream as a family for the very first time ever!!! It's nice to see a locally owned, non-franchised business take on the heavy hitters with a unique twist to a classic confectionary shop.

Pros: Like a large, comfy living room.
