Obviously you would have to order the sangria. I also recommend the giant crab stuffed prawn, mussels, any of the shrimp, spicy meatballs, and the sirloin roll just to name a few.

Of course you go to Sangria for the sangria. The tapas are very nice as well. When my husband and I went, the service was a bit awkward but nicely paced.

Basura means trash in Spanish and unfortunately, I probably could have scrounged up a better meal in some any other restaurant's garbage dumpster. Sorry, but I'm still a little annoyed after taking a cab from my Magnificent Mile hotel over to a nearly empty Sangria with my wife. We walked in to an unattended hostess stand, only to discover three minutes later that she was one of the five or six employees gathered around the bar catching up on the latest gossip instead of doing her job. She then proceeded to tell us to have a seat at the bar and wait. With no further explanation, my wife and I sat puzzled looking at dozens of clean, empty and prepared tables trying to figure out why weren't sitting at one of them. Another couple drifted in and was immediately seated while we waited. After about ten minutes, I asked the hostess why we were waiting and she said that she didn't want to seat us and not have a server ready for us, but she promised it would only be another minute. Five minutes later we were seated.

We ordered some Ham and Potato Croquettes, a Cuban Salad, Grilled Mushroom plate as well as some Grilled Octopus. The mushrooms literally tasted like they used Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup to make the sauce. the octopus was the worst I've ever had, the croquettes were flavorless and the salad was just average (which made it the highlight of the meal). I also had a well below average traditional Sangria (red wine, brandy and fruits - how does a restaurant named Sangria mess that up?).

This Latin tapas restaurant/bar is a great place to go for a delicious meal. Their traditional and specialty sangria's are quite tasty! I would suggest trying the traditional rojo or the specialty champagne. Their menu has a lot of variety and caters to meat and veggie lovers. The atmosphere is fun and is good for large groups. I would definitely suggest trying this place!

A group of my friends and I (there were 14 of us) went to this restaurant for a celebratory dinner. The tapas were excellent. I myself got the seared ahi tuna with avocado. Delicious! The tuna was very fresh and very well prepared. The chorizo paella was delightful as well, a bit on the greasy side but what can you expect its paella. The only bad thing I could say about Sangria is that the food came in intervals with some getting all their tapas quickly and some having to wait some time.

Sangria has an excellent mango sangria but beyond that it is highly over priced. All of the food was average, there was nothing I would rave about. We tried the giant crab stuffed prawn which maybe someone should share with them what a "prawn" is. We had an average sized shrimp with some crab surrounding it. Nothing spectacular for $11.95 (one small shrimp)! Calamari was decent- very lightly fried. Baked goat cheese, mushrooms, and spicy potatoes were all average. It was a decent meal, but as I said- over priced.

My coworkers and I recently celebrated our bosses bday with a night at Sangria. My boss is a pretty uptight guy but the service and menu here were so good that even HE had a good time! The staff was prepared to handle our large party (17) and even very nice about helping us. We're working on booking our holiday party there now. The valet helped TREMENDOUSLY!

We recently had a managers party for our Company and had a great time! We do them a few times a year throughout the nation and I must say I was impressed. Upon arrival we were greeted by huge welcoming smiles from the hostess'. We were seated immediately and our waiter was very attentive, and accomodating to our group of 20. The food started coming out pretty fast and was great! My favorite was the bacon wrapped dates and spicy meatballs, yum! The group loved the goat cheese, skewers, and spicy potatoes. We ordered a desert with a flaming presentation that the chef brought out , that was as delicious as it looked! The only reservation I have is not being able to try more things, but I look forward to coming back soon to do so! Great Experience, would highly recommend to all!

We went to Sangria on a night that happened to be a listening party for Daddy Yankee and it was great. It started out really slow, and the servers were a little bit TOO attentive, but after having great tapas and GREAT drinks that the bartenders came up with, we had a great time on the dancefloor dancing to reggaeton and salsa!

I would definitely come back just to hang out!

Went on a Friday evening. Somewhat crowded but we were able to grab some seats at the bar while we waited for seating. Bartenders were extremely friendly and make some of the best Sangria I've ever had. Once we were able to sit, our waitress was very knowledgeable and the dishes she recommended were great. Outside of the crowd and a little noise irritation, I'd go back anytime.

To truly have a "Latin" experience, might I recommend Latin America, Spain, Portugal or 26th Street for local convenience. Because the experience at Sangria indeed was like watching a business truly in need of an exorcist! Is it a nightclub or a restaurant? And once they decide, maybe they'll figure out how to do one or the other with proficiency. The food was deplorable, leave the paella to a real cook, trust me, even your mother, who has nil experience in cooking Latin dishes could have done better, rice and sea food mashed together is not paella, but simply mush! The Sangria was bitter and this was consistently so after a total of (5) five carafes among 12 women. The appetizers, less than appetizing and for god sake whatever you do, steer clear of the fried calamari! The phrase, "fried greasy rubber? comes to mind. The least offensive dishes were the tacos, but be warned the tortilla are poorly prepared, but the meat was well seasoned. The desserts run the gamut, and so does the consistency. I'd say the ice cream is the safest bet: the creme Brule is presented in an innovative dish but lacking in taste. The bread pudding was mush covered in chocolate and their attempt at crepes/banana fosters will make you long for the crepes of France, even if you've never been to France. The service staff seemed bored and uninterested. Our waitress could make no recommendations and who could blame her, based on the swill passing as authentic Spanish cuisine, I'd be ashamed to recommend dishes too! The atmosphere is loud, crowded and hip; the decor is not clearly defined as Latin, mod or contemporary so they went for an eclectic hodgepodge that doesn't work. At 11:00 P.M. the dining area is cleared for Salsa and Merengue Music and dancing. The crowd is a Cosmo blend of young attractive Hispanics but the music is neither Salsa nor Merengue. Might I suggest any local Latin format radio station for authentic music and 26th street for better food & service.

Pros: Able to seat large parties

Cons: Service for the large party is likely to be very poor in food quality and service

This restaurant has quick valet service, but that's about it! We went Saturday night looking for a fun casual place to host a dinner party. The food was not good - the dishes were either very bland or too spicy! We waited way to long between tapas and left hungry! The portions are way to small. The menu seems reasonable, but in order to feel like you had a meal you would have to order 1/3 of the menu. The waiter after seeming to be kind and polite ended up charging and extra 18.00 to our credit card - we noticed when we checked our statement on line the next day. Way too much money on horrible food. This place is not worth visiting!

My husband took me here for my birthday, at my request, as I love tapas and we needed a romantic night out. Big mistake! When we got there, they squished us in a corner between three mega bachelorette parties. Our server was very apologetic, but pretty much admitted that she'd likely be ignoring us more than she should because she had the entire section of drunken (and demanding) bachelorettes. The tapas was pricier than better places (like Iberico or Ba Ba Re Ba) and not as good or ample. White sangria was very weak.

In the past year between my friends and I, we have had 3 parties here. The food, service and drinks are always excellent. I couldn't believe some of the other reviews because our experience has always been great. The margaritas and martinis are excellent, but I do have to agree that the Sangria is terrible. Other than that we will go back and continue to have get togethers here...our friends always love it!

The only item we received worth eating was the warm goat cheese. The calamari was rubbery and likened by a friend as 'fish flavored chewing gum'. The chicken and spinach empanadas were luke warm at best and very doughy. Overall the food was very bland, not served hot, and all of the sauces had the same flavor. The white peach sangria was decent and the Grey Goose dirty martini was excellent. Find another restaurant for good tapas because you won't find them here.

the worst tapas place in Chicago. The only thing good about the place is the decor. The hot tapas were cold. We ordered about 5 different tapas and they all were all served with the same mustard sause either on the side or on top. There was no distinct flavor to any dish, they were all bland and room temp. The sangria was terrible, it tasted like watered down apple juice and they don't even serve it correctly, could not taste a drop of alcohol and when we told our waiter this it didn't seem to matter that we only took a few sips, they still charged us for the whole pitcher. Will never go back. Can't imagine this place lasting too long.

I would have to agree with a number of the other reviews I skimmed. Still rated "9.0?" How? The ambiance is suburban-franchise at best. The food was either over or under cooked, either way, it was very pricey for what it was. (But then again, all bad food is pricey!) As one of the other one-time patrons noted, it is a business aspiring to make as much $ as possible off of one-time customers and then remake the space into its next sub-par theme restaurant to lure yet another batch of one-time only customers.

Went to Sangria as another site had multiple positive patron reviews. The restaurant has a suburban feel- it could be one of a hundred just like it across the country. The food was bland and uninspired. Each tapas dish was a variation of the one before and to follow (sauces and preparations tasted similar) and the meat was generally tough. Nice presentation and great Sangria but these positives just couldn't make up for the overpriced food (which I would not have been happy paying half as much for). We were obviously disappointed in this restaurant.

Good but not great. Salmon was the best tapa that we had. If they had all been that great, I'd up my rating. Sangria was okay, but glasses were a bit small. We had a nice coupon that allowed us 4 free tapas, so our bill was reasonable, but without the coupon, it would have been a bit pricey for what we got. Best to go with a huge group of friends who don't mind dropping some dime more for the 'ambiance' and 'experience' rather than awesome food. Not bad though, just not great.

I went to Sangria with a group of "foodie" friends on a recent Friday night, enticed by Sangria's well-written menu and the prospect of having a new, hip tapas restaurant in Chicago. In sum, Sangria's food was mediocre at best, reminiscent of the sort of food you'd get at a so-so wedding reception. So much potential here, yet the chef(s) failed in their execution, using questionable quality ingredients, and in some cases either overcooking or undercooking dishes. In two of the tapas dishes, the rice was undercooked. Beans were also undercooked and crunchy- atrocious! The sangria beverages were nothing special. It is obvious the business model here is to make as much $ as possible by enticing trendy people to come and eat here ONCE. Sorry Sangria, you tried but you're not going to make it with the food you serve.

We visited Sangria on a Tuesday evening, when the restaurant was relatively empty. We ordered 6 tapas between 2 people, which has proven to be plenty in our experience with tapas. However, at Sangria, the tapas were pitifully small (4 "jumbo" scallops were truly the size of 2 normal scallops cut in half, and the shrimp wrapped in bacon consisted of 4 pieces). I was very disappointed in the service as well: our waiter never once stopped by the table to ask us how things were, and our plates were cleared far too rapidly. We will not go back. If you want good tapas with a lively atmosphere and a good value, go to Cafe BaBaReeba!

While the sangria is great and the fried calamari perfect, we visited on 06/18/04 and received what we can only refer to as "too much" service. Our conversations were interrupted over and over again by the waiter either filling our glasses with sangria or asking how everything was. He also insisted that our order would be staggered, but it wasn't. All 6 plates emerged at once. Also, the busboys are a constant presence peering onto tables asking if we were finished. My husband and I went here to celebrate our anniversary, but didn't get to spend much time alone!!

We were pleasantly surprised with our terrific meal at this new restaurant. The room is gorgeous and the crowd, equally beautiful. But it was the food that truely pleased us. Wow! We didn't know that tapas could be so good. It was hard to stop eating. Some of the stuff sounded weird, fried cheese dessert? But, after tasting it, we wonder why more "tapas" restaurants aren't so inventive. Just thought everything was great! We aren't big drinkers, but the Sangria selection was really interesting and those of us in the group who love Sangria thought that they were a lot of fun. They had to try a bunch...their favorite, the peach, with mango a close second. It's a great place to celebrate. Nothing dull about it.

I ate at Sangria with a group of friends...had a total blast! Food is fabulous...portions are perfect. Tapas are yummy...drinks are delicious. A great place to celebrate...even without reason. Every time I go to Sangria I feel like I am at a party. Staff is totally upbeat and happy to please.

Pros: good value, great atmosphere, fun crowd

Having grown up in Spain and Peru, I am skeptical of tapas places but this place was one of the best I have been to in the US and certainly Chicago. Upon arriving (with 6 of my friends)I was a little intimidated by the crowd but we sat the HUGE U shaped bar and enjoyed some wonderful sangria. The hour wait was a little longer than we would have liked but the bar was packed so we had a good time waiting.

After getting seated we had some incredible tapas (lamb chops are more tender then greek town) but make sure you dont miss the Seafood Paella - it was awesome. This was one of funniest nights out and we will definetly be back. Make sure you try the White Peach Sangria

Pros: Food, Sangria, Free Parking

I probably wasn't the most impartial critic once I had waited over 2 hours for a table, especially since the wait time had been continually misrepresented by multiple indifferent staff members. But by any standard, the portions were on the small side and the menu unremarkable. The wait-staff was equally indifferent, although the bus-boys were remarkably attentive and apologetic. Sangria tasted great, but the alcohol seemed to have evaporated sometime before I received it. Skip the food and just enjoy a cocktail and the pretty, diverse crowd of 30-somethings.
