minnies is awesome!

try the burger and leave the pickle on top. the cuban is also great. the fountain coke is perfect with crushed ice and giant straws. yay!

my friend is also obssessed with the buckets of mini miller lites. she just thinks they are so cute. she really could go on all day about it. they just stay so ice-cold! it's perfect!

GO!

minus one star for sticky tables and menus

I wasn't going to write a review but felt compelled to after reading what lucyb78 wrote. In her review - in which she claims to have once been a "food editor - she lists three sandwiches: the cheeseburger, the Cuban and the BBQ pulled pork. It just so happens that I ordered the exact same meal this evening and couldn't DISAGREE with her more.

To begin, the cheeseburger was quite tasty and far better in quality than any fast-food restaurant I've ever eaten at. For the portion size it was a very good slider. The Cuban sandwich DID NOT have turkey in it. It was ham (as it should be) and it was delicious. The "seemingly inedible morsel of meat on the toothpick" was not, in fact, meat at all, but a grilled plantain (a nice touch) instead. My pulled pork sandwich was not dry, but rather quite sweet and flavorful.

When we were done with our meal, we were offered complimentary samples of the butterscotch milkshakes by the manager who was friendly as could be.

To everyone else out there, Minnie's is an eatery that I would really, highly recommend. Oh, and I hope I never come across the magazine/newspaper that Lucy edits. I may end up passing on a really great restaurant!

Pros: The service, selection of food, quality of food, ambiance

Cons: I didn't have room to order more sandwiches!

great concept to be able to sample so many different sandwiches. this place doesn't pretend to be high-end or serve you 5-star food, but the sandwiches are downright delicious (chicken pesto, venezio, etc.). the fries and the aioli sauce are really, really good. give it a try.

The concept of Minnie's is fun and on point, but the execution was horrific. I used to be a food editor and was really bummed when my three sandwiches were all flavorless. Seriously, the cheeseburger was unseasoned?and basically consists of low-quality beef on a bun and cheese. The Cuban sandwich had turkey in it (?) that was barely digestible, it was so foul tasting I almost sent it back--along with a seemingly inedible morsel of meat on the toothpick. The BBQ pulled pork sandwich was dry--which is nearly impossible to do. The frites are ok, but their fries sauce is bland. I left feeling really regretful that I tried such a fun-looking eatery.

Today we had the pleasure of finally visiting Minnies (1969 North Halsted). Our interest in this place was originally piqued by the European walk-up window outside but once we discovered that everything on the menu is miniature, we had to try it.

From the moment we entered, we were struck by the devotion to keeping everything mini in the small diner. A full bar comprised entirely of mini liquor bottles, including a top shelf section, mini beer bottles, and mini sandwiches on everyone?s plates. The small dining room and bar area were crowded but not uncomfortable and after a very brief wait we were taken to a table.

Service was fast and refreshingly friendly. Our order was taken and delivered quickly. The atmosphere was great, a great mix of young professionals and young families with children adding a happy din to the room.

If you?re like me, when you visit a new restaurant, you can?t entirely decide what to get. Minnies has the perfect solution for this. The standard order is comprised of 3 mini sandwiches and a side of frites. By selecting 3 sandwiches, I could get all the things that looked great on the menu rather than having to decide. The frite sauce was an impressive addition to the side. My 3 sandwiches were the pesto chicken, the venezia, and a turkey cheeseburger. They were all delicious with the pesto chicken coming in at the top of the list.

For dessert, my friend got the original butterscotch milk-shake. As he stated, ?anytime a place calls something ?the original? its gotta be good.? Apparently it was.

I went with the waitress? other suggestion ?Minnie?s chocolate chip mint cookies in a bowl.? Comprised of essentially 3 brownie cookies, vanilla ice cream, hot fudge and whip creme, this was just a straight up good ending to a very enjoyable meal.

Cliff Notes ? A great, friendly diner where each guest orders a variety of miniature items. Great staff, fast service, and reasonable price make this place a must h*t.

Pros: Great idea, great atmosphere, great, friendly service

Cons: can't think of any

Adorable concept and pretty good food, but the service was SO disappointing!! Mid-bite, the manager asked (or moreso DEMANDED) that my boyfriend and I shift seats at the diner counter...so HE could sit directly in front of the TV and watch the basketball game! *Hey! That wasn't very nice!* Also, the waitress was entirely too sassy for my liking...and I generally like most people. I can now confirm that nothing ruins a perfectly good mini-burger faster than rude and sassy service. On a brighter note, I had the butterscotch shake for the first time and it totally rocked!

Pros: Cute idea, great butterscotch shakes, fun place for a post-Armitage-shopping snack (and parents visiting Chicago think it's super-fun and slightly nostalgic)

Cons: The service. Oy. I THINK I liked your food, but I was so distracted by the rudeness that I can't really remember the taste of anything.

If you like the trendy design of the Minnie's bags, burgers wraps etc well I helped design them and all I have to show for it is alot of emails with the owner refusing to pay me. I am freelance graphic designer in LA who helped work on all the collateral for the Chicago eatery and then got stiffed on payment. Took about 6 months to get half of my invoice and then another 6 months t be told they wouldn't pay the rest. I was told they didn't have any money, but if you eat there and pay your check then there's money somewhere.

This is a great place if you want something quirky and out of the ordinary. Everything is tiny! Drinks come in mini beer bottles, mini wine caraffe's or airline sized bottles. I've been back several times for the small sandwiches that are very good. You'll love it if you like variety in your food since you order sandwiches in sets of 3, 9 or 12.

I went to Minnies with my girlfriend and we both loved it. The sandwiches are tasty and affordable. I recommend the Thai beef salad as well. The decor is done extremely well. While the service could use some work, we enjoed our experience.
