Message from Harry Caray's Seventh Inning Stretch

Harry Caray's Seventh Inning Stretch premiered in 2001 and is the only full service restaurant and bar at Chicago's Midway Airport. Harry Caray's Restaurant Group partnered with Midway Airport Concessionaires to develop one of the country's most exciting airport restaurants. The energetic atmosphere embodies the amiable personality of the restaurant's namesake. The combination of mahogany paneling, mosaic tile and a veritable museum of baseball history create a warm and casual elegance. Named for the late, renowned baseball announcer, the restaurant is ideal for travelers looking to take a freshly made sandwich to go or those who have a short respite while waiting for their flight. Harry Caray's Seventh Inning Stretch is also perfect for those looking to have a business meeting at a premier Chicago restaurant without leaving the airport

The Scene
Located just inside the ticketed area of Midway, this small-scale version of Harry's offers many of the same dishes as the original locations (River North and Rosemont). The walls are packed with autographed photos of sports stars and Chicago celebrities. Breakfast is on the super-casual side, but lunch and dinner hits a higher standard of quality.

The Food
Look for many of the same dishes offered at the River North Harry's, but you'll find a larger variety of sandwiches and salads here. Plus, a small variety of breakfast dishes for the early morning traveler. Omelets are dense and filling, but the fruit plate and yogurt might be a better choice if you're minutes away from a long flight. For lunch and dinner, you can't go wrong with Harry's fabulous chicken Vesuvio (chicken breasts sauteed in a sauce of garlic, olive oil and white wine with peas and roasted potatoes).

Key Points

  • Great Steak!
  • Great Italian Cuisine!
  • Dine at the Airport!

The Inside Scoop

  1. The Extras - Outside the airport, Harry's offers full-service restaurants downtown and in nearby Rosemont.

Harry Caray's Seventh Inning Stretch has good appetizers.

Make sure you have plenty of time to get to your gate but I had decent survice. I recommend ordering Harry's Calamri, toasted cheese ravioli, and the fresh mozzarella marinara.

Avoid this restaraunt!

by mochandler

I ate dinner here last evening and was very disappointed! I thought what a nice change to have a great Chicago landmark restaurant to dine at Midway Airport. It took about 20 minutes to be seated and then another 15 for the waiter to take my order. The Cabernet I ordered was in the smallest wine glass I've ever seen. I'm not even sure it was a wine glass. I ordered Chicken Marsala which wasn't very good either. The chicken was tough and the mushrooms were obviously canned and not fresh. It reminded me of something I would get in a frozen dinner for a couple of bucks at the grocery store. I've eaten this same dish at Carrabas and while it was a couple of dollars more it was so much better! Another thing was the Chicken Marsala came with pasta which I asked if I could substitute something for it. The waiter indicated a resounding no! Not even for more money would they accommodate a simple request. So, if you find yourself at Midway Airport wanting to dine find another place besides Harry Caray's Seventh Inning Stretch. A slice of Pizza would have been much better!

Pros: Convienient

Cons: Poor food, poor service, terrible value
