Family Restaurant Keeps Good Company

I eat out weekly, and have been a regular at The Cordis Bros. Supper Club since they opened 2 years ago.
A night out for dinner is an event for me. The Supper Club allows me to create my own atmosphere so I can make an evening out of it.
The bar/ lounge has that swank cocktail party feel, with tub style bourbon tumblers and martinis that they shake "extra crispy" so that it cracks in the metal shaker and pours out with a frosted froth into a chilled glass. All this in a relaxed environment where it's nice to be served by friendly/ familiar faces.
It's tough to stop in for "just a quick drink", because I am drawn to the great food and the fun of having a dining experience. Not pretentious turn-n-burn high maintenance stuffed shirt service, just enjoy your time and make yourself at home hospitality and taste.
The Supper Club isn't Corporate rhetoric, it's a family that keeps good company. Check it out, and be sure to introduce yourself to the managers and bartenders.. they will be glad to meet you.

Amazing food and service, made me feel like a member of the family

Ran accross Cordis Brothers by chance, I was in town on business, and I went back every night. One night I had the sirloin and it was as tender as a filet. The Ribs were fantastic, fall right off the bone good. The pork chop was so large that I could only eat half of it and the basket of fries was enough to feed a family. Clean, friendly and great food, what else could you want. Hope to see one in St. Louis some day.
Pros: food, service, atmospher
Cons: none

They try real hard

I was so looking forward to this place. It was my idea to go there with another couple. It looks so cute and cozy and the ambiance is very nice. Parking was no problem. We were seated promptly. The service was great. Unfortunately, the food was actually bad. The 2 appetizers, fried calamari and the lump crab were mediocre (and that's generous). The wine was wonderful. We had an incredible shiraz upon the waiter's recommendation. All of our main courses were soooooo salty. I had the fish special - ugh! It was ridiculously salty. The rest of my party all had the Cowboy special (something about Giddy up on the menu). They were all disappointed in the quality of the steaks which were very tough, chewy and salty. Now, I have to say, the staff really tried to fix it. They really did. Kudos to the staff. They even gave us our desserts on the house, but still, the food was not worth returning for. Sorry Cordis Brothers!
Pros: Easy parking, great service, nice bar
Cons: Food quality poor

Hitting their stride

I appreciate the other reviewer's comments - like all new restaurants Cordis Brothers took a bit of time to iron out the wrinkles.
Now they're operating at top form, and imho it's all due to their sauces. Whether it's the incredible bbq sauce on the full/half slab of ribs or the marinade of Nick's chicken (greek-style), Cordis Brothers' entrees are as long on taste as they are on size. Seriously, have a light, light lunch if you're coming here because the portions are unbelievable - the thing that surprises me most is that usually quantity and quality don't show up on the same plate. They sure do at Cordis Brothers. I now come here at least once a month and bring visitors whenever I can.
If you're like the other reviewer and experienced some turbulence the first time around, I'd definitely give this place another shot - I did and it's been a real treat ever since.
Pros: Ribs, portions, parking in back and across the street

Poor substitute

Maybe it;s hard to take over an existing location that had been a part of the neighborhood for over 40 yrs. And while comparisons were inevitable, had the Cordis Brothers "knocked it out of the park" I wouldn't have longed for the Biasetti's of old. An appetizer of 2 breadsticks,2 pieces of celery+carrot sticks, and 3 small ramekins of dips, none of which were memorable, started the meal. My companion and I both ordered the fried calamari, which was a good thing, because it was too small to have been split, and cost $8. Salad was a choice with entree and was pretty good, although when I asked the type of dressing available, I was told ONLY vinegarette was offered unless I paid $2 for Bleu. I choose to stick with vinegarette, but the dressing was white!...did I get the bleu? Sure didn't taste like it. We both stuck with the ribs, partly to compare to what Biasettis was famous for, ...At $18 for a full slab dinner (recently raised to $21 ) it was well worth it. We split the mashed potatoes and spinach we each chose as our other selection, but neither was in any way memorable. The spinach was in need of more seasoning, and the mashed potatoes,we were told, were made with garlic. Either I left my taster in the car, or the cook turned his back on this one. I'm not sure he even added salt. On the plus side, dinner came with 3 (?) little bread buns (why not 2 or 4) that were quite tasty. Additionally, I had a great glassof Italian wine ; the name escapes me. Dessert was a creme brulee, which we split (what can I say, I'm a cheap date) and while tasty, came up short on the much-desired crunchy top. It came only half-browned, the rest was clear except for 2 burnt spots. A rushed job, it seems. Maybe we didn't spend enough for them to care. I hope that isn't it. The bill with tip was over $100, which I think was way too much. Service was ok; pleasant enough. Kids were welcome at 2 tables during our stay, but this place sure doesn't give off a kid vibe. I doubt I'll be back.
