Have been to Firewood for their specials ($5.00) all you can eat pizza or hamburger/fries. Great price...But I also have been there for an actual sit down dinner. Prices were to expense.$12.00 for (All you can eat pasta) Made in front of you.Salad bar, I picked up a plate and there was a butter patty stuck to it, not to mention the salad bar, foil was stuck to the bottom of the roll....Waited for over 15 min. for the bill (After we asked for it)..Finally, went the front register and asked for our bill. Because of the wait time for the bill, they didn't charge us for our last cocktail..(That was good)..All in all, food not to bad, but over priced..Service was OK, not spectactular. Had to wait awhile for them to take our order...My suggestion....Sit at the bar for the all your can eat pizza/ $5.00 hamburger...Dining in...FORGET IT...

Firewood is one of our fave places to go to enjoy a football or hocky game. They have 30 widescreens in the bar, which is really large and has nice couch seating for larger parties. The bar is by far, one of the nicest ones in the area. And the bar food is some of the best (try the artichoke dip and the wings). The only downside is that on weekends, the bar gets busy and they seem understaffed.

The restaurant is also good...it is what it is. If you're expecting a four-star meal, go to a four-star restaurant. But if you like decent food and fair price, Firewood is a good place to go.

We had dinner with friends at Firewood on Sept.10. We were very pleased with our experience. We were seated promptly and our waitress, Cindy, came to our table with equal promptness. Our food was served in a timely fashion and was piping hot. Those who had the buffet were equally as pleased.
You can be sure that we will be return customers!

Food was good. Service was OK. Our waitress was trying but they need more staff on certain nights. A dress code is needed in this place to match the ambiance (this will prevent many unwanted individuals from coming and hurting the business). DJ was a little loud. Stupid S&M videos gotta go. Good drink specials on Sunday nights.

This place looks really nice from the outside and even on the inside, but its aesthetics in no way match its service or food. My girlfriend and I went there on Christmas eve. There were no tables available in the dining room so we had to sit in the bar. The restaurant had done a poor job of staffing that night; there was only one bartender who was also the server for the 20 or so people who were also forced to sit in the bar area.

This being our first visit, we thought we'd check out the buffet before ordering off the menu. "Ew" is all I can say to describe the sad spread of choices. We opted to order from the menu. Our food arrived after 40 minutes. I ordered the beef stir fry over rice. It didn't taste bad, but the meat and vegetables were luke warm, served over a bed of scalding hot rice...strange. My girlfriend ordered Mezzaluna, found under the "pasta" heading, a mixture of cheese ravioli with choice of chicken. Again, not bad tasting, but it should have been found under a "chicken" heading because of the lack of pasta (3 raviolis) and abundance of chicken. The side of steamed veggies on the side looked nice, but was ice cold.

My final comments regard the service. Poor at best. We were not approached for 5 minutes upon sitting down. We were never asked how our food was. I couldn't even get the bill to pay without going to the bar myself. Two other patrons near me also had to go to the bar to pay their bills. The only person who wished us happy holidays was the valet, who isn't even employed by the restaurant and whose services we didn't even use. We won't be back nor will we recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Firewood is nice to look at but beyond that they have nothing to offer. Let us just start with the $3 sodas. Our family recently ate there so it was myself, my husband and our 5 year old. My husband and I both had burgers and my son had a hot dog off the kids menu. Total was $50 for 2 burgers, hot dog, and sodas. And to top it off the food and service sucked! Don't waste your time you will get better food and service at Applebees for half the price.

I have gone to Firewood a couple of times, since it was the new restaurant in town and I was looking for a nice meal out. Bottom line, I have NEVER had good service here. The food is simply okay, definitely overpriced. The first time I went with my family, and the waiter got two out of our five orders wrong. The two of us with the wrong orders then had to wait a good 20 minutes for our correct meals, which by that time the rest of our family was finished. Nobody appologized, and a manager never stopped by to explain or express concern.
The second time I went I had a waitress that was so condescending it was hard for me to enjoy my meal. I am 26 years old and was talked down to the entire meal, as if the waitress was talking to a child. This would have been not such of a big deal, except I was the only person in the party who was treated like a pre-schooler for no apparent reason. On top of that the serving staff never automatically brings soda/tea/water refills. Rather they wait until the end of the meal when the drink has been completely empty for 15 minutes, and instead of bringing a refill they ask if you would like another one. Maybe I'm just spoiled by decent service at other chain resaurants who bring you a refill without asking when your glass is ALMOST empty.
Finally I visited Firewood one last time to see if anything would change. I went with my boyfriend and we were seated in the main dining area. We sat for 15 minutes and nobody greeted us. A few servers made eye contact, so I figured that they would soon stop by to serve us. No such luck. We were so frustrated and annoyed at this point that we simply walked out without saying anything. I will NEVER go back again unless I hear that they are under new management or that the staff has undergone a COMPLETE overhaul. DO NOT EAT HERE AND WASTE YOUR MONEY ON TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!

My family and friends have eaten here many times and have always had a good experience. The restaurant is elegant and is one of the only ones that is that nice in the area. The food is very good. I have yet to order anything I did not like. Wait staff and management have worked quickly to remedy any problems we had. (My 4 year old didn't like his hot dog with black (grilled) and even though I didn't ask, the waiter went and got him one they did not grill.) Another time I didn't care for a drink we had from the bar and the manager apologized profusely and offered to replace it or give us a dessert or appetizer instead. I think the buffet was excellent, with a wide variety of choices. And kids eat for free on Sundays! I recommend this restaurant to anyone who asks. All of my friends and family also agree.

Don't be caught off guard by the chancy decor. The food is way overpriced for its quality. The wait staff is horrible. It took my wife's and i waitress 45 minutes to deliver our drinks. The food is nothing special (especially overpriced) and management will do nothing but lie to you and overcharge you. Though it is only my opinion - I would not recommend this place to ANYONE

I've been going to this restaurant since just after it opened. The food is respectable, the decor appealing and some of the wait staff can be quite pleasant which keeps me coming back however there is a creature that lurks at the end of the bar.

Every single time I have frequented the bar area in the evenings there is a man whom I can in no way shape or form refer to as a "gentleman". What is so disturbing about this character is not that he is often loud which is to be expected in an environment where liquor is sold but I find some of his behavior to be quite disturbing as he struts about incessantly leering at the female wait staff and bar tenders. This attention is decidedly not solicited nor appreciated by the staff as evidenced by the looks on girls faces as they move out of range. He's wont to frequently touch the female staff in ways that are obviously inappropriate and not only seem to make the staff uncomfortable but also the customers. It's not just myself who has noticed this. The more he drinks, the louder and loser he gets. The bar area is quite large but you can easily follow his entire conversations from well on the opposite side of the room. I don't mind a good conversation or someone having a good time but to be forced to listen to topics that only an 8th grade boy could appreciate is a little much when it's every single time you go into a restaurant or bar to relax. If you're lucky you'll be able to enjoy listing to an entire Nextel walkie talkie conversation as he yells into the apparatus 18 inches from his mouth. I guess he hasn't figured out that those phones are equipped with a "private" mode. His behavior led me to believe that he could possibly be the owner of the establishment. Who else would have the gall to carry on in such a manner and not be asked to leave? I had decided that if this be the case that I would no longer frequent the restaurant because I seriously would not be inclined to spend my hard earned money to line the pockets of such a proprietor.

I did find out that he is not the owner but some sort of groupie who has ingratiated himself to the point of being allowed to stand in as a Sunday manager. He's obviously taking advantage of a friendship and most likely hurting a business. I'll not be back for a very long time even though it's probably the most decent place to get a drink and dinner in a very short driving distance for me. Even though he's not the proprietor I really don't want to give my money to anyone who would consider a horrid liability a friend and much worse would employ them in any capacity. I'll now be spending my $75 - $100 a week on dinner elsewhere.

I was contacted and told that I had won a free lunch for 10 people because my business card had been drawn. I made a reservation for this lunch and showed up with my in-laws at the prescribed time. I told the Hostess that we were there for the business card free lunch for 10 people thing. She said that was good and showed us to our table. We ordered, 5 of us off the menu and 3 ordered the brunch buffet. The menu meals were decent, but the buffet was very sad. There was not much food stocked, and what was there was cold and old. They eventually started stocking it about 30 minutes after we started, by which time we were not happy. Then I was presented with the entire bill of $130. I went and found the hostess, who went and got her manager. I was told that the free lunch contest was put on by a third party and the man running that contest had been waiting in the bar for us to show up and had left when we did not. I explained to the manager that we were there on time and had told the hostess why we were there. I was told the restaurant was not responsible and I would have to pay the bill. I did pay the bill. I am not certain that there is another company and that this is not an ongoing scam they have. If what they say is true, they should still take responsibility because It was their fault, I told the hostess why we were there and she never told the third party that we had arrived, nor let me know that I would have to go and find him. They had no problem taking my money for a crappy meal though. In conclusion, if you win this "free lunch" make certain that you get in contact with the guy running it before you order. If you just go there to eat, order off of the menu or at least make certain that the buffet is stocked before you do.

Delicious food at reasonable prices. Elegant, martini-bar style atmosphere is very refreshing for the McHenry area and brings a nice escape from the chains and over-advertised restaurants around the town.
