this place is the absolute worst post office I've ever been affiliated with. they've lost a $225 package that I can't get taken care of because the tracking shows it never left the building, and due to not insuring the package, I'm obviously out of luck. it was a hand-built instrument by me that I sold to a customer. now I am having to refund them without being refunded by the post office for their incompetence. it's been since may 5th 2013 and they still have no idea where it is or what could have happened to it considering the tracking shows it did not even get an arrival scan! they have countless times held packages for me without giving me a notice, and at times those packages are sent back because they sit in the back for so long. they rarely knock on the door or ring the doorbell when I get packages too big for the mailbox. they leave a notice, or they don't leave one at all, and they rarely ring the doorbell or knock. also, there is someone who works there, some grumpy old man, that constantly hassles me every single time I go in there. every time I try to pick up mail, he gives me crap because my drivers license is for MD and not my current address. none of the other workers do this, not even the supervisor. the second time I attempted to pick up mail, he flat out did not give it to me because of the address issue. there are tons of people in this city from other areas of the world. this issue should be nothing new for any city post office. if the name matches the one on the ID, it should be fine. this guy butts into conversations I'm having with other postal workers, and starts to argue or tell me things the others have already told me. I have, on a few occasions, told the man that he needed to be respectful and to stop talking to me in such a condescending way. over the phone and in person. last week was the last straw because he was basically harassing me, calling me a racist (he is latino, I'm white), just because I have a problem with his demeanor. the supervisor heard it all, and has mentioned that he is constantly getting in fights with people and he is on heavy watch. she apologized heavily to me and told me not to worry about him. well WHY ISn't HE FIRED if he's such a problem? local friends tell me they have witnessed altercations between the man and customers on several occasions, so I know it's not just me. i have been taking my packages and dropping them off at another post office lately. I would recommend avoiding this hell hole AT ALL COSTS. NEW INFO: the delivery person just recently bent the crap out of a "PLEASE DO NOT BEND" package in order to squish it into my mailbox. there was a CD in that package. well, there was. now i have pieces to make a mosaic with. thanks. but of course, since there was no insurance on that package, THE POST OFFICE WILL DO NOTHING. i guess they can continue to lose and damage merchandise without being held responsible because more money wasnt shelled out to insure a package. ALSO: i just found out a package for me has been sitting and waiting for pickup since may 30th. absolutely no notification of any kind was left for me. it's a good thing i just checked the tracking information the seller provided for me or it would have been sent back to him. OH YEA, i forgot to mention THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE. TWICE. packages sent to me with no notification have been returned to the shipper because i was never notified to pick it up. AND AGAIN, the post office does nothing to compensate for this inconvenience. sometimes i wish i could move away from pilsen just to get away from this incompetent fstival of shoddy postal workers.

ANOTHER UPDATE (6/13)
I went to pick up a package in which I had no slip for because I was never left one. However, tracking shows it is at the post office and it has been for a week. I was hassled and basically yelled at by a postal worker saying "HOW DO YOU KNOW IT'S HERE IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SLIP?" in a ridiculing, condescending tone. I said I had a tracking number showing it was here, but they couldn't find it anywhere. Came back 2 days later, still, nothing. They say "it has to be here" but is it?

If this was a restaurant or something, I wouldn't care. I'd just stop going there. But I live where I live and I run a business so I need to use this post office. I'm stuck with a bunch of rude morons with an IQ in the single digits.

Sonya Acosta-Lewis, the supervisor, needs to make some SERIOUS changes at this place. While she's at it, she should fire the older, short and stout Latino fella for being the rudest person behind a counter I've ever witnessed or experienced in my life.

I was at at loss at what to do when I dropped my passport in the Mailbox. Thank to three staff members working that day I was able to get my passport back. Can you imagine I wasnt even charged for this extra service.

I actually hate this post office more than any of them! It sucks, they screwed up the mail so many times, its ridiculous! Today, though, I actually had an employee that cared! Lorenda R. Her and Mr Brown (past mail carrier) are the only two people there that give a sh*t about their customers! Otherwise, this place sucks!

Pros: A couple good employees!

Cons: Everything else!

It's hard to even give them 1 star...too bad zero stars in not an option. This is a true confederacy of dunces. Not only do the workers not care in the slightest about ANYTHING. I get the wrong mail in my box every single day, 2 packages lost (that I know about) and the mailman is almost always drunk. Seriously. We are paying these guys with our tax dollars...WTF?

Warning. If you move to Pilsen GET A P.O. BOX before you move in.I have had REGISTRED mail delivered and signed for by a stranger next door that was VERY CLEARLY addressed to me. The suspicious neighbor kept the opned registered letter for a week. Had my tax./ss number and he has drunks over all the time. Find my Mail OPENED all the time in my locked box. That is done at the Piisen P.O.. Other neighbors bills and business mal in my box. It is absolutley unbelievable and dangerous.Repeated reportings and complaints to the Postal Inspector and Customer Service had done ZERO. Warning ! Avoid entering to complain or report . In fact do not even go to this Post Office because thestaff at the counter are like an angry mob and treat customers terribly. In all my 54 years I have never seen the postal service so broken. Use the main PO on Harrison as it is run by non criminal, sane people.
