Granted the food is pretty good 75% of the time, but what goes on behind the scenes dictates what your service would be. Dictate is probably the best word because Ron Goodwin is a Tyrant. He treats the people who work hard for him like garbage. If you have had horrible service at this establishment, 9 times out of 10 it was because your help was disrespected and belittled by that loser. He is not a good role model for young black men, as I was at the time, on running a business. Not only did he disrespect me but he disrespected my mother. He is a sick man, and I beg you not to support this poor excuse of a man.

P.S. Its going on three years since he has denied me my last pay check. He treats children like garbage.

A friend of mine recently had a wedding reception at the Charleston House. The Owner Ron Goodwin was not only disrespectful to the bride he was also rude to her guests through his actions and several comments. The disrespect started the night before when the bride came in to inspect the hall. The bride was given a floor plan for seating assignments and if you are planning a reception, you know the detail that goes into every seat assignment. The floor-plan was changed to accommodate the owner; it was not as agreed upon. They had a previous engagement and with new equipment the owner did not want to change it to the agreed upon floor-plan. At the reception the owner, went as far as to tell members of the well mannered bridal party that he ?did not like them?. Excuse me? When do you tell guests how you may feel personally when you are providing a service that they paid for? The comments and actions, including, rolling of the eyes and walking away from were only the tips of the iceberg. The food was average, nothing to ?write home about?. If you are looking for a place to have your reception or special day KEEP LOOKING!!!! I would like to reiterate an earlier post, check this company out on Better Business and also Mecklenburg county courts.

My fiance and I came here because he is from Charleston and we love the lowcountry food! I must say it met our expectations and then some. The food was excellent and when I asked the waiter if they had fried okra on the buffett, he said no, but we'll whip you up some. They really go out of their way to make sure you feel special. The price is just right!

Never allow the Charleston House to cater any major event. The owner of this establishment is swindler! I foolishly allowed this man cater my wedding reception, despite rumors I'd heard from Better Business and others who had allowed him to cater their events (ie. staff) . I've always believed in giving people the opportunity to prove themselves. Unfortunately, the rumors about both he and his establishment are true. There was no follow through regarding the contract. I did not receive half the food I paid for. In short, we ran out of food and never received our champange for our guest (3cases) ! Or so he says. He had a very young (teenagers) in-experience butlering the event. He himself had a less than desirable attitude when I confronted him about his lack of follow through. He is a liar and is not to be trusted. I just recently found about about his countless lawsuits against him. I would advise anyone to check this company out on Better Business and also Mecklenburg county courts. Don't get short end of the stick, just as I did.

All around perfect, the ambience, service, and meal. The best collard greens I've ever had and I'm from the south. I appreciated the fact I could bring my 11 month old without any unpleasant looks. In fact, the staff were so helpful to accomadate all of our special needs.

Pros: Thumbs way up there.

Cons: A little pricy, but well worth it. If lunch and suday meal prices were adjusted I would have no complaints.

We called ahead to make sure that the restaurant had room, also called making a reservation. When we arrived, not only did the restaurant not have room, it had closed at 5 pm. After knocking at the door, a waiter finally answered and had no explanation. The manager would not even come to the door.

Do not patronize this restaurant!
