This is the worst Orthodontic Office I've ever seen! The staff is SO rude that it is unbelievable! There is always a different doctor there and they don't seem to have any idea of what the previous doctor did, or where to go next for that matter! My stepdaughter was supposed to be on the "fast track" and now 2 years later they REFUSE to take her braces off! Her dentist told us 2 months ago they were ready to come off, which I told them at Happy Tooth, and they will not do it. Also, I told them that the dentist office said to not put brackets on the molars so that they could fill her "natural pits", what did they do? That's right, put brackets on her molars! Absolutely a joke of a practice!

Rude staff I was told conflicting things each time I was there. I am changing dentist due to bad and rude treatment.

I am surprised at some of the negative reviews here. I have been impressed with the quality of care and the friendliness of the staff. I have never had to wait more than a few minutes -- but perhaps this is because I schedule my appointments for the earliest time possible (8:30). This is a good idea for any medical/dental appointment, by the way. I did not give five stars because on a couple of occasions I found the assistant staff to be somewhat unprepared (perhaps interns?), although the majority are excellent. I think I can guess which dentist may have put off some people with his "chairside manner", and it's true that sometimes the dentists seem to be overbooked. I highly recommend requesting to be seen by Dr. Jin Yi Kwan. She has given me the most thorough checkups I have ever had (all of the mouth and jaw, not just the teeth and gums), and also the most pain-free cavity fillings. The receptionists are invariably pleasant to me, and I've had no problems whatsoever with billing or insurance. A plus for some: most of the staff are bilingual (Spanish). Note: courtesy is a two-way street, in any transaction.

Cons: Lack of privacy, understaffing

I was very impressed with all of the staff and services that I received at the The Happy Tooth. I was seen quickly with no wait time and everything was done in an efficient and professional manner. The cleaning I received was identified as "simple" yet it was done as thoroughly as I'd ever had and I was very pleased with the results. All the staff, including technicians, hygenist, receptionist, accounting, and dentist were friendly, up beat, highly knowledgeable and eager to answer all of my questions. I rate this a 5 star based on receiving excellent service and the outstanding staff. I do not usually take time to write reviews, so for me to write this meant I was impressed.

An half hour appointment becomes two hours. Most of time are waiting for your turn. One doctor is handling 7 patients at the same time. Once you get your turn, the machine and tool are not ready. Is your time more expesive or his time? They let you sleep upside down, counting the ceiling and hearing all the conversatoin while you were wondering when is my turn. I remind myself that next time I should bring in my magazine (no magazine while you are waiting) or my laptop.

I do not recomment this dentist center to anyone. I can not believe they have customers and have FIVE locations!!!!... how can people still go there????!!!!... You always have to wait... at least 40 minutes!!... the service is not so friendly and the worst experience was just a day ago when I tried to make another appointment... they wanted to charge me $85.00 dollars (from my own pocket) for a new evaluation because the doctor is different to the first one!!!! I do not care!!!! both doctors works at the same place, so I do not have to pay if they do not trust in what the othe says!!!! It is crazy!!!! I did not want to switch dentist because the have all my records... but now... I do not care... and now I have to pay $25.00 to release my x-rays to another dentist office!!! IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A DENTIST DO NOT GO THERE, PLEASE!!!! they have to go out of business!!!

Happy Tooth is the worst dentist that I've ever had. They often make you wait 30+ minutes to see the dentist, even if you have an appointment. But here's the great part, I had to cancel an appointment due to jury duty, and they charged me a cancellation fee. I understand that canceling an appointment costs the dentist revenue and so cancelation fees, in general, seem acceptable. But this was jury duty, something completely beyond my control. Moreover, I've never actually seen them keep an appointment (since I always have to wait to see the dentist) so why should I be responsible for keeping my appointment? The bottom line is that dentists and secretaries at Happy Tooth are rude and inconsiderate, and given the variety of dentists in the Chapel Hill area, there are dozens of better places to go. Avoid these guys unless you like sitting in a dentist office for hours at a time, surrounded by rude employees.

I highly recommend The Happy Tooth to everyone that was ever been or is afraid of the dentist. I have always been afraid of the dentist but going to The Happy Tooth was great. The dentist there explained everything in detail about my future appointments. I have to say that the waiting time was minimum. I was only in the waiting room for five minutes before they called me in. I was also amazed to see that the front desk is bilingual, which is one of the few places in Chapel Hill. GO TO THE HAPPY TOOTH!!!!!

I would highly recommend Happy Tooth. My wait time has always been minimal. I like the fact that they are open on Saturdays. I've always had the continuity of the same dentist. He is professional and personable.
I've recently had a crown and soon after it chipped at no fault of the dentist. They immediately took me in, fixed the problem and with no charge. My children also have this dentist and have had good service.

I have read the existing (bad) comments about The Happy Tooth and said to myself, ?Are these people really saying this?? I went into the office for an exam and cleaning. All I can say is, ?this was the best experience I had at a dentist office.? I would give them 6 stars, but the rating scale only goes up to 5. So people, check out The Happy Tooth in Chapel Hill right across the street from Pizza Hut!

My family has made Happy Tooth our new dentist (we are new to the area) and we just loooove them! They were very friendly, answered questions and were very supportive. We also had no waiting at all (as others have complained of).

They were willing to work with some physical disabilities that I have very well, even though they had to break their necks just about to do the cleaning and exam! Just as all dentists, the dds himself spent the normal amount of time with each patient and did a quick, yet thorough, oral & neck exam. They also provided a thorough proposed treatment plan with pricing and informed us of what would be covered by our insurance.

We would recommend them to anyone - just make sure you know where they're located as there are no signs off Estes Dr!

(They are in the older office park directly across from Pizza hut - not the brown office park next door! If you see the surgical care center, you've gone too far)

They also provide Vivid white toothpaste for less than even the cheapest bulk store, which can make any frugal student have happy teeth :)

Do NOT go to the Happy Tooth. I just moved here and picked them off my provider list because they were the only ones open on Saturdays. At first, the hygenist seemed friendly and knowledgeable. But then I waited over 45 minutes to see the dentist. I was laying down, almost upside-down in the chair, when the dentist strolled in, did not introduce himself, proceeded to poke around in my mouth, and make RUDE comments while doing so (not comments to me, but negative ones under his breath and to the hygenist). He never talked to me at all, and only talked to the hygenist. When I tried to ask him questions, he left. The hygenist looked embarrassed for him. Since I felt so uncomfortable, I decided to get a second opinion. When I called to have my records and x-rays, they refused. They wanted $25 to find my records (I'd be there ONCE, THAT DAY). Fine, keep my records. I want my x-rays. They refused to give me those (that my insurance paid for). I called the insurance company and filed a provider relations complaint, and also called the NC Dental Society (919) 677-1396. My new dentist is trying to get my x-rays from them, and I will return this weekend with a print-out of this website, copies of my official complaints, and legal representation. I don't care if it's only $82 x-rays; I paid for them, they're mine, and now I'll do whatever it takes to make a point and not let this happen to anyone else. DO NOT EVER GO TO THE "HAPPY" TOOTH! SPREAD THE WORD!

Our 1st appointment for our SIX year old daughter. My wife had to wait an hour and a half for them to verify insurance, when 2 days before it took me all of ten minutes. Then the "doctor" was rude with my wife because my daughter needed alot of work done to her teeth. That's funny- I would think that they want us to spend more money. The "doctor" then gave my wife a referral to a PROFESSIONAL unlike himself with a referral letter signed by him to another orthodonist office. He wrote under Appiontment compliance: Poor, and under Chief Dental complaint: patient- uncooperative, crying. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!!

WHAT SIX YEAR DOESN'T CRY IN THE DOCTOR'S OR DENTIST OFFICE!!!???

I THINK "THE HAPPY TOOTH" NEEDS TO FIND SOME OF THEIR OWN HAPPY PATIENCE BEFORE THEY RELY ON THEIR PATIENTS!!!!!!!

They are never ready for you at your appointment time. The dentist is rude and leaves the room before you have a chance to ask questions, leaving the hygienist to try to figure out what the doctor was thinking. They will tell you that you need fillings and when you want to get a second opinion they will refuse to give you your original x rays so that you must pay to have copies made. When you do get a second opinion you will find that you don't need any fillings.

Terrible experience.

I have to agree with the other reviewer, the wait time at this office is beyond ridiculous -- sat for over an hour in the lobby each time we went, not to mention additional waiting time of > 20 minutes once taken to a chair. Also saw a different dentist each time. Gave two stars because the front office staff and dental assistants/hygienists are very friendly and professional, and because they tell you in detail what the services will be in advance of performing them.

I am not the type of person to take the time to write on reviews like this, but if you are like me, I was searching the internet for a dentist in Chapel Hill that looked to be a good one. I would want to know these things before I went to a new dentist, so I will let you know about my experience.

The first time I went for my initial visit, I had to wait in the lobby for one hour before being called back to see the dentist. (I will say they have a great front desk staff though).

The 2nd time I went for fillings, I was put in a room after 30 minutes, but then was made to sit in the chair and wait for 1 1/2 hours before the dentist came to numb my mouth. She apologized and said she would make sure that this didn't happen again.

The third time I went back for another filling, I sat in the dentist chair for 45 minutes before the dentist came back. This time, there was a different dentist there that I was NOT in any way impressed by. I work in the medical field, so I can understand wait times and how some days are just off, but it was getting ridiculous on how I was always having to wait and how unprofessional the dentist was.

What really threw me over the edge was the last time I went in to get one of my fillings redone b/c something was done wrong the first time. I, again, had an appointment, and was made to wait in the lobby for one hour before being seen. After this, the dentist came to see me and told me that he didn't have time to do the filling that day b/c he was too busy! I couldn't believe it. I had an appointment just like everyone else there and yet I waited for 1 1/2 hours to be told I had to come back.

To make a long story short: If you are looking for a quality dentist who is professional, consistent, and on time, I would NOT recommend The Happy Tooth to anyone.
I don't want what happened to me to happen to anyone else, and that is why I am posting this.
