I saw Dr, Stanley in Mooresville to confirm a broken toe and to be sure it was not displaced. The x-rays confirmed that the break was NOT displaced, thus no care was necessary. In addition to the office visit charge and x-rays, which I fully expect to be charged for, Dr. Stanley also billed $340 for a fracture care fee, even though I received no care. After sending letters to the doctor disputing that charge only, they will not reduce the charge because it is a legal coding. I have gone through their entire dispute process, and their board, not surprisingly, agrees with the doctor. I have filed a claim with the NC Medical Board for unethical billing practices. In addition, while this matter was in a documented dispute with the OrthoCarolina office, they sent my bill to collections???

Tried for 2 1/2 hrs (8am - 10:30) just to get through to make an appt. to no avail. After being on hold for more than 20 min. I left my number, then a msg and still no returned calls. Completely frustrated and no excuse for this!

We met Dr. Wattenburger after my 3 year old broke his femur. He and his staff have been nothing but wonderful with our child and us. We've never waited over 15 minutes for our appts. and never have had a problem with their billing department. I couldn't have asked for a better doctor for my child before, during, and after his surgeries.

Very disappointed and would not recommend OrthoCarolina to anyone due to my experience. I received a routine cortisone injection that did not alleviate any symptioms but furthermore, received a bill in the mail stating that the injection was coded as surgery with a big payment listed as a result. When speaking to OrthoCarolina, they said that I should have asked if the shot would be coded as surgery. Of course, that is the first thing I assume when receiving a simple injection that takes 40 seconds to administer. Beware of their shady billing practices.

At the Matthews location: long waits to check in and to see the physician. And after having a CT scan on an ankle I returned to the Matthews location for an evaluation of the scan and after waiting an hour and a half past my appointment time the doctor finally arrived in my examination room only to be unable to find my scan results in their computer system. After minutes of searching he finally found the results and spent three minutes discussing the results, obviously in a hurry to move on to the next patient. I scheduled another appointment to see their ankle specialist and again spent an hour past my appointment time sitting in the waiting and examination rooms only to have a physicians assistant enter who did not seem familiar with my case. He read from the form I filled out when I registered that day where I circled on a diagram the part of my ankle that was the "problem area". I was again left with an uneasy sense that the practice was disorganized. Perhaps these are growing pains for the new Matthews location but I will use a different practice for future needs.

Please review your bill and make sure you know exactly what you are being charged for. The doctors are great but 740 dollars for telling me that my son has a hairline fracture; bogus. That is not including Dr. fee and x-rays

Check your bills. Read each line carefully. We were charged 740 for telling us that there is a hairline fracture. That is not including doctor fees and x-rays and cast.

Pros: good doctors

Cons: bad billing

I was referred to Dr. Milam at OrthoCarolina after dealing with a back problem for two years and seeing four different doctors. I would recommend Dr. Milam and OrthoCarolina without hesitation to anyone. The staff are professional and caring. Dr. Milam, and two other doctors I had a chance to interact with there, were great at explaining my options clearly and answering all my questions. This was especially important in my case, as there aren't a lot of great options for 29-year-old facing major back surgery. The doctors at OrthoCarolina are at the top of their field and up-to-date on all the newest procedures and can explain their benefits (and risks). Because of this, when I finally opted to have surgery on my back, Dr. Milam was able to do a very new procedure that was far less invasive with a shorter recovery time. The follow-up care was very thorough, and I am living a brand new (and pain-free) life thanks to Dr. Milam.

The doctors at OrthoCarolina are able to treat a wide variety of areas. The staff is always professional and courteous. When I broke my foot they saw me right away.
