Message from Kumon
Kumon was started 50 years ago in Japan by Toru Kumon, a teacher and parent who wanted to help his son do better in school. The unique instructional method he created was so successful that his son was able to do calculus by the time he was in the sixth grade. Kumon reading and math programs help children master those fundamental skills so important to their overall academic performance. Our founder's belief that every child possesses untapped abilities and the potential to excel remains central to our philosophy. In short, there is nothing a child can't do. The Kumon Method was developed to unlock the potential in every child. That's our mission, and we are accomplishing it every day at more than 1,500 Kumon Centers in North America alone.

We knew my daughter wasn't getting enough help in her Wake County School so we enrolled her in both the reading and math programs. She stayed in the reading program one year and in the math program for 1.5 years. Kumon helped her reach grade level and beyond in both subjects.

We enrolled both of our children in Kumon math when Wake County started using a sub standard math curriculum 5 years ago. They weren't struggling in math but we wanted to prevent any future problems.
They did Kumon for over 3 years and we were very happy with the program. It definitely filled the math deficit that our public school had created.
They did a short math worksheet every day at home. It was for the most part quick and painless and we had a rule in our house that Kumon came first. No TV, games or playing outside until the Kumon was done for the day. It quickly became a habit and regular part of our day, every day.
My 5th grade son is currently doing math at an 8th + grade level d/t Kumon and my 8th grader was also well above grade level when he went to private school and we pulled him out of Kumon.
We have referred several friends and family members to Kumon and they have all had similar stories to tell. I can't say enough good things about it.

I started sending my daughter to Kumon almost 2 years ago because she was struggling in Math. I went to visit the center and was given free testing and a very low pressure overview of the program and work involved and how other children have done. What I liked the most was when I clearly stated I was there for remedial I wasn't pushed for reading where my child was above grade level. The costs are extremely reasonable compared to other tutoring companies like Sylvan and they incorporate a home component so your child can work on it daily.
Anytime I had concerns, questions or needed to make changes to my daughter's lessons Mrs. Wong listened made suggestions and worked with me. When I wanted more work to push her it was granted, when I wanted less because of a family vacation it was easily accommodated.
I've really happy with the philosophy, staff and the much larger location. My only complaint was that they were in such a cramped space but the new location is so spacious and the children have more room for the 1 on 1 reviews.
I am so happy I put my child in this program.
