Noodles truly are where they excel. Pad Thai, Panang Curry, Pineapple Fried Rice, Drunken Noodles, and Pad See Eww are all wonderful. I must admit the Tom Kha was too spicy for my taste and it was also difficult to eat with so many lemon grass chunks and lime leaves floating in it. Biting into a chunk of lemon grass is not exactly soothing. But but but ... everything else is always good and up to par. Food comes quickly and steaming hot. Seriously, I can't stop eating there!

Cons: Can be noisy, a bit difficult to find at first

I have been to this place for lunch... The restaurant was not crowded and the service was OK. They forgot to serve the beverages that we ordered till the very end. I just had soup and appetizer and both were ok. Its not a very fancy restaurant, but you get reasonably good thai food.

I love this restaurant, even if we don't get to go very frequently. There is a nice variety of well known and more unique Thai food, all of which are delicious! The prices are very reasonable, I've never had a meal I didn't enjoy!

We visited this place for the first time last Friday. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, the Thai tea was quite yummy, and the prices were very fair. Highly recommended for Thai.

Not everything at Twisted Noodle is great tasting, but it is by far one of the best and most reliable standard Thai food around. Friendly servers are willing to hustle and accommodate large groups and special requests. This is one local restaurant that deserves to survive this horrible economy.

After moving from a larger city with more authentic Thai food, we were disappointed by the overly sweet and flavorless Thai we found in Durham. That is until Twisted Noodles! This place is fabulous, and has dishes to please both those who always order Pad Thai and the more adventurous. They will make their summer rolls vegetarian on request, so all can enjoy this fabulous fresh appetizer. I love all their currys, and the drunken noodle is great and unique dish. The desserts are great and I've been known to order a small meal so I know I'll have room for it. They will also serve a whole coconut with the top cut off as a drink. They handle take-out orders very well too. Like other reviewers, I too now have to avoid the Friday night crowds that have developed here, and miss the empty restaurant but am glad it's taken off.

Cons: noisy when crowded

We eat at Twisted Noodle once or twice a month. When the chef is on, it is clearly the best Thai food in town. Spicy, balanced and delicious. When the chef is off... it's mediocre, spicy without a lot of flavor. The tom kah soup is ALWAYS good, so so start there and then branch out.

My fiance' and I eat at this restaurant frequently. We love their food...it's very authentic and they have a large, varied menu. The atmosphere is cozy, even when the restaurant is packed. We are very glad this restaurant is here, since we feel that the triangle needs more tasty, ethnic food. Unfortunately, I have ONE BIG BONE to pick with them. Their service at night is TERRIBLE. I'm saying this from experience, because I waited tables for three years in an upscale restaurant and worked in a kitchen for one year. Whenever we go for lunch, the service is fine (I'm guessing because they weren't busy). It is very obvious that they have no sectioning patterns or host....it is complete chaos. I don't go at night with any kind of time constraint, because service can be very slow. We recently went and waited 45 minutes for our appetizers:( Our waiter apologized numerous times, but after a while it became annoying. To the owner's? (not sure who helped us) credit, they did give us 1/2 off our meal at my fiance's suggestion.

I'm not writing this to be ugly...my main purpose is to call attention to a problem that needs to be addressed. We're afraid if service like that continues, it is going to hurt their business. We will definitely go back (at lunch) , but we're afraid other people won't be so nice.

I went there the first time about 9 months ago and I got below average noodle soup with the slowest and absent-minded service. I've been back a few times since, and I think the food is pretty decent these days(it'll be a while before I order another noodle soup, though...) and the service has improved. As long as that waitress isn't there, I'll probably be happy. She wasn't mean, but I firmly believe that she was doing her homework or something really complicated in her head while serving our table.

I ordered some lad nah, and then volcano chicken. I'm not sure what they're supposed to taste like in Thailand, but I think it's tasty. Volcano chicken is subtly spiced, and I liked that.

I actually did not realize this restaurant was there. Or that it was Thai at first. But I went there today to check it out since we have not had a good Thai restaurant here in Durham for years.

I ordered the Pineapple fried rice which was absolutely outstanding! I could smell the moment they started making it....fragrant rice, crisp veggies, and chicken, shrimp, and pork. I was in awe from the first forkful. My husband got the Pad Thai which was also amazing. He added some of their peanut dressing on top and seemed quite please with it.

What's also great is how flexible they are with the preparation. I have a son with food allergies and they can make just about any dish wheat-free upon request (says so right on the menu). And of course, making things vegan, vegetarian, etc.

Go here. You will not be disappointed!!

Pros: Delicious food, big portions, not ridiculous prices

Cons: Hard to turn left out the parking lot, but that's not their fault :)

I love twisted noodle!!! It is in a strip mall off university drive but the food is wonderful. I can't say its the
"most authentic," since I don't know what authentic is, but it is highly delicious. I only wish they wouldn't serve Pepsi products-blah! try the fried tofu. Yum. Also they have the most wonderful tropical fish tank which I could look at for hours, with anemones and Nemo and Dory swimming around!
Awesome. I've been like 5 times

I have been on the hunt for great noodles in this area and these are the best noodles around. I have been to Thailand and had authentic Thai food, and this is the closest I have had in this area.

It is especially difficult to get great soup noodles - the Tom Yum Chili Oil noodles were the right amount of spiciness and were also very flavorful. You could taste the lemon grass and other spices in the broth. Even the water had a splash of lemon in it. The portion sizes are very generous at very reasonable prices.

This place has really improved through the years. I also had the Mango Sticky Rice - one of the few places that I could find this delicious dessert in this area.

This place was recommended to me by a Thai friend of mine as having the most authentic Thai food in the Triangle. Although no expert on authentic Thai food myself, I was more than impressed my personal favorite dishes. I am always on the lookout for a good Pad See Euw and their version did not disappoint. It is the best that you can get in Durham, for sure. I have since had several other items such as Pad Thai, Green Curry, Penang Curry, and Tom Kha soup and they have all been excellent. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired, but the food is spectacular.

The Twisted Noodles restaurant is located in a small strip-mall off of University Drive. My wife and I stopped by for lunch at noon on a Friday. The restaurant appeared to be about 3/4 full but the noise level was quite low. We were quickly seated but there was a 10+ minute wait for a server to take our order. While waiting, we noted that the interior of the restaurant was very basic, far from fancy, but clean. The food arrived within 7 minutes and the waiter stopped by every 5 minutes or so to check on our drinks etc.
The "house special" BBQ Pork (Grilled pork slices on a bed of fresh lettuce served with spicy lime sauce) was pretty tasty but the pork was a little dry. The Drunken Noodles (Thick rice noodles with bamboo, onion, green beans, tomato, fresh Thai basil & chili and choice of meat) were fantastic and definitely worthy of a repeat order. The balance of the heat and flavor was great as was the freshness of the vegetables. We will certainly return soon to sample more of their menu and recommend Twisted Noodles to all of our friends that have been searching for a really nice Thai restaurant in the Durham area.

Stumbled into this place by accident. It is above and beyond the average US Thai restaurant, and rivals the best I've had --- even after living in Thailand!

I had the curried noodles - which were fantastic! The pad pet was also amazing. The staff was great. Always on the lookout for great Thai food, this is my new all time favorite. I'll come here whenever I'm in Durham.

This place is a hidden gem! Every once in a while, I'll start to have my chicken green curry craving and in the past, I would dream lovingly of a little place in Charlotte. Then I found Twisted Noodle. The green curry is fabulous, the Tom Kah is the best I've ever had and their Mango Sticky Rice is the perfect way to end the meal. The staff is courteous and lovely and they have a fish tank in the restaurant that seems to include the entire cast of Finding Nemo. The decor is spartan but comfortable and their prices are more than reasonable.

If you crave Thai food, give this place a try! You won't be disappointed!

After reading the great review of this place in the N&O, I decided to go their for lunch with some coworkers. While the atmosphere is only so -so, the food more than makes up for it. I had drunken noodles (it came with choice of soup or salad) which were delicious. So many flavors in it and a pretty reasonable $7.95. (I think dinner is a little more per entree.) My companions liked their pad thai. The waiter was very friendly too. I'm looking forward to going back again. Do note that it can be sort of hard to find. It's in a strip mall behind Target near Saladelia (which is also a great restaurant).

The owners of Twisted Noodles have done amazing things with obviously limited space and materials. The restaurant is minimalist in its decor and it's lovely, with a grey painted floor and plain tables. The food is really excellent. Have a Thai iced tea. The pineapple fried rice has seafood in it (watch out!) but it's truly excellent. Everything was good, including the appetizers. I can't wait to go again.
