The atmosphere is wonderful. The servers are all across the board - the good, average and absent-minded are all represented here. Choose, if you can.\r
My biggest complaint is the rigidity of the menu. I frown upon denying substitutions,

Went with my family (eight of us) last night for my birthday - it was our first time too. The atmosphere is quite nice - our waitress was very cordial and attentive - and our table was nicely set away from others for a rather private feeling. The bathrooms were clean and orderly, but we did arrive at 5:30, so one should expect this before the heavy dinner rush. However, the food left a LOT to be desired.

For my appetizer I got the duck and chicken liver terrine - nice, but the two HUGE slices of terrine were paired with only a tiny dab of whole-grain mustard, four small, very thin points of nut/raisin bread and what looked to be a microscopic pinch of quatre pices. Hardly enough to accommodate even one of the terrine slices - so I took one home with me. It was nice, if not a tad musty tasting, but not awful - or so I thought (skip to the end to find out why).

Okay - sometimes appetizer portioning can be a little off - but my entree had to be better. Hmm.

My entree was the muscovy duck and asian noodles - the duck, while appearing nice (charred well on the skin and a deep burgundy on the inside), was quite tough - even when trying to cut it with a knife and unfortunately a good bit too rare. The noodles were far, far, FAR too hot with the curry/chili seasoning overpowering everything and the tiny amount of vegetables within the mixture were mushy and overcooked. I left over 3/4 of the inedible stuff on the plate. Too bad, since there seemed to be some rare-around-these-parts fava beans too - ruined unfortunately. Oh well, so much for a rounded meal.

My father had the sea bass - two rather thin, flounder-like fillets - sparsely sauced - with barely a sprinkle of lentils, two cauliflower sprigs and about three small pieces of asparagus as the "sides." Where's the starch? No rice, potato or anything resembling a starch side at all. It was as if they were trying for the minimalist plate look of finer establishments, but without any of the quality or thoughtfulness. He was done before any of us were finished, and since the bread and bread plates (there was still plenty left) were promptly removed before our entrees came out, he had nothing else to eat for the remainder of our meal. Ugh!

The rest of my family had either steak or chicken - those were just fine, as they should be. If those types of things can't be done properly, there's no reason to even be in this business.

We made the best of it, and in all honesty, I was really there to spend some quality time with my family - I did, and the restaurant had nothing to to with that.

Cut to tonight - the night after this meal. I'm at my kitchen table, sipping some wine, reading a magazine and pulling apart the thick terrine slice I took home with me. Imagine lifting a few shreds of (what should be) luscious duck, chicken liver pate and bacon to your lips - and thinking nothing of inspecting it for any reason (you shouldn't have to) - when after a few of those bites, you see bright, toothpaste green and white "plaque" patches on the surface of the meat and pate! I pull the chunks of the terrine apart even further - only to see more of this nasty mold in one, two, three - no even more - places. Promptly running to the trash can to spit it out - I feel like vomiting. This is absolutely unacceptable - so I call the restaurant and speak to the hostess, who doesn't even know the item I speak of, but assures me she'll tell the manager and takes my name (my father's name too).

All I can say is that first impressions are the lasting ones - and this is the first and LAST time I'll set foot in this establishment. Bleu - please learn from these reviews - you guys really need to take a good look at whether you want to be something resembling fine dining, or just a cut-rate diner for a motel. It seems like consistency and attention to details are something you know nothing about.

The employees are continually rude to female tables. Only nice to male and children tables. They expect a tip from customers they are rude to. The employees will not volunteer to wait on female customers, write order, bring menu, food, bill, silverware and drinking glasses. They bring food and run away. They bring wrong order and not volunteer to correct it. They knew it was wrong. Not come back volunteer to see if female customers need anything. Rush to get rid of female customers. Talk back rude, interrupt and try to start fights. And employees tend to leave female customers to gossip with employees. The female customers have to ask them to continue to do job

This place is a total gip!!! The food is way overpriced, furthermore, it is terrible!!!! The first time we went to Bleu there was, what looked to be, a public hair in our cheese ravioli. We thought we might try it again, but the 2nd time the service was atrocious and after waiting for 30 minutes for our entree's they were undercooked and tasted so bad I wouldn't have fed it to a poodle. Don't try it...if you do you'll regret it.

I have eaten here twice. The first time was for lunch and I had a very good pasta dish. I was pleased with my first experience and so I tried them again for dinner. My meal was not as tasty, though it was satisfactory. I thought their dinner prices were way too high. And my dessert was very dry and tasteless. I won't go back.

From the outside Bleu looks like one of the nicer restaurants in Winston, inside also has a charm about it.. However the food does not match the expectations of the price nor the wait. I was very dissatisfied with the steak meal I had ordered and it was definitely not worth the 2 hour wait on a non busy week night.

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Those of you that are wanting an upscale place to go, with great food, great service, a fantastic bar area and a great atmosphere, we finally have it in Winston! Whenever someone is visiting from the city, I bring them here. The menu is great, and the drinks are made to perfection. The food is always good and made to your specifications, the wait staff is very nice and the bar tender clearly knows what he is doing!
