FRAUD/MALPRACTICE ALERT. DON'T GO and TELL SOMEONE. SPREAD THE WORD.
Ultimate runaround suspicious behavior in all areas, evaluation and diagnosis, psychological videos, billing estimates irregularities, and new systems excuses which from what I read were there in 2009 in NC, dentist-hygienist jargon exchanges during dentist examination to intimidate patients but surprise surprise, very clear on commercial products like Rotadent and Viklite (oral cancer screening product).
Bottom line, first comprehensive visit was 2 hours and no cleaning procedure performed just gum poking in so called comprehensive evaluation, , and the most X-ray angles I have ever had at any dentists, and after all that no no X-ray explanation but given proposed treatment plan that would require 4-5 appointments, still a blur and tons out-of-pocket expenses even with great insurance. By end of the day had headache and aches worse than after any cleaning I've had, I even wonder if those instruments were sterile. I hope no infection from that place, even if I went in with some, probably contracted a dozen more different species. Since, I got very suspicious I didn't commit to any of their dozen or more 'proposed treatments' but I will double check so that they don't file false claims of treatment with Metlife because I signed some paper work which I was told was to verify that I saw the proposal. I did ask for a copy of the dentist/hygienists notes in my new file which seemed to cause the front desk financial person to panic and rush back to the hygienist and dentist for what seems like the longest 10-15 minutes, then she came back made a copy and I said I would call my insurance company which left a cold chill in the office, lots of hush hush and just plan weird unprofessional behavior.
By the way, new in town and the person who referred me said she couldn't go anymore because of insurance. Well they must have started giving her the runaround with over-diagnosis and out-of-pocket billing as you can see and she innocently thought that maybe her insurance coverage had lapsed or something.
Another trivial warning but certainly a redflag (hindsight is 20/20) ! No prominent signage outside building to indicate which of the 4 buildings they are in. Street sign very old-some letters even faded. Then they had a tall bookshelf with dozens and dozens of yellow patient files right there, exposed. Practice is about money coming in not out and patient care is actually the sideshow!
Also operate under many names Spelious Associates, Smith Spelious, Dental Health Associates, no website. But had www.dentafx.com (no dentists on site, very strange but this website was on bogus dentist i.e. Henry T. Marable's business card. He by the way, must be a very popular dentist because google & Bing show him all over GA in his very short career but only record of his existence in Fayetteville only shows up if you google the 395 N. Jeff Davis address, which also shows the array of affiliations to this one of many dubious practices under this group or these groups. Who knows now what they are. They even have some defamation case against a client in NC that was thrown out. Go figure!
A disservice to dentistry and medicine, as evident with multi-state complaints on the chain just google them as should be done with company or practice you deal with for the first time. I just didn't this time because they were 'recommended'. My foot! So much for supporting your own! So disappointed and worried for public health safety and financial fraud.
I am very sorry for putting my family through this practice. From now on, beyond referrals, I will go vet the place first and do aggressive research online and maybe even phone interview. I'm a consumer education professional, this is not the end of this!

Why didn't I read reviews before I went there? Absolutely horrible!! My kids were all told they needed extra special cleaning prior to regular cleaning which is out of pocket, special $100 toothbrushes that are sold by Dental Health Associates (I think their parent company) and expensive mouthwash for their very horrible gum problems. I bought all of this stuff but can't wait to get them to another dentist. The hygienist was condescending and very rude to me and the kids. Also the staff was impatient with any questions regarding payments. On one occasion the staff was 30 minutes late opening up the office. Please don't go here, you will waste tons of money and walk away feeling horrible.

This practice is in business to make money. They overcharge for everything and recommend unnecessary treatment. Worst of all, they did a lousy job. After changing benefit and going back to my former dentist, he had to redo one of the fillings they put. Since it was less than 6 months between the care, I couldn't get reimbursed for that tooth. Thanks Spelios! Avoid this place...

Moved here two years and I stayed with this dentist too long Do not trust dentist to do work that is in my best interest. Did work that was totally contrary to my dentist in MD. Every visit required extra out of pocket expenses. One time even had intern do most of work.

I would give them zero stars if that was an option....My husband and I purchased dental insurance through Humana One. It was a great deal and offered good coverage. You had to select a dental provider before your first appointment. Initially, it appeared that there were 14 or so to choose from in the area. So, we picked one. My husband then did some review searching online, only to find out that EVERY one of the options was under Spelios and associates. The reviews scared us, but my husband decided to schedule a first appointment, just to see. When he made his appointment, it took them a month to get him in. Then, they told him they had to take a full series set of x-rays - 20 or more. Who does that? So, he went to his first appointment, had the xrays, and expected a routine cleaning, as all dentists give to patients. They however said that they do not do cleanings on the first visit. They then told him that he had bad periodontis and needed a "special" ultrasonic cleaning or the problem was going to become very bad. My husband has ZERO problems with his gums - no soreness, no bleeding, nothing. And to no surprise, the "special" cleaning was going to cost us 175 dollars, as opposed to the 10 dollar copay that we would pay for a routine cleaning. We then looked at more online reviews and saw that others had the SAME experience and were told the same thing about their teeth. My husband called the office three times and left messages, stating that he only wanted a regular cleaning. They never called him back, not once. So we called Humana One and they kindly agreed to cancel our contract. Upon reading some of the reviews and hearing our story/experience, the associate from Humana One also believes they are trying to scam people and take advantage of people at these dentist offices. Please please please stay away!! It's really sad that we can't trust any sort of medical provider, but in this case, you are much better to not trust them. Do not waste your time.

I only went there b/c they would accept my insurance. I don't care if I have to pay out of my pocket somewhere else!! They told me I needed excessive work done. Went back to my old dentist and he told me everything was great and the work they were suggesting was TOTALLY UNNECESSARY. I felt like they were either trying to cheat me or didn't know what they were doing!

First of all, I would like to say that I am a former employee of Spelios and Associates. I think I was employed there for about 3 months at the most. I would not recommend this office to anyone!! The computer system used in the office is a DOS based system....DOS!!! Back from the 80's with the comma this and comma that commands. It takes 10 minutes to check someone out! The office needs to take some of that money they are ripping off from patients and update their system...anyone ever heard of Dentrix or Eaglesoft!!!! Secondly, I can't tell you the number of patients I have seen that come in there for cleaning and get told they need a SRP-scaling and root planning. They only needed a regular cleaning but thats how they make their money....charging these patients for expensive cleanings they dont need! I worked in the Lynn Road office and I worked with some of the worst people! They were rude to patients and rude to me! I didn't feel comfortable working there and felt I didn't "fit in". Oh yeah, and forget ever getting a refund from them. You'll never get that back!!!! Take my advice, go somewhere else!!!! I'd recommend McCrimmon Family Dentistry in Morrisville. GREAT office!!!!

My first appointment took over 3 hours, filling out extensive paperwork and taking excessive amount of X-rays. Waited 30 minutes talking to hygienist before I could see the dentist. Told I needed deep cleaning, $465 of which was not covered by insurance, before I could be treated. They also wanted to replace my existing crowns and additional crowns were needed costing thousands of dollars. I've been diligent in going to another dentist for years, and only changed because they didn't accept my new insurance plan. I felt I was being made to accept unnecessary treatment just so they could make more money. I would not recommend this dental office to anyone.

I used to go to this dentist and they told me that I had all these different problems concerning my teeth, I was 21 and I always take impeccable care of my teeth. They told me I needed root canals and that I had cracked tooth syndrome. They also filled teeth they said were cavities that I now believe were perfectly healthy teeth. I changed dentists when the services they said that I needed ran a price tag of $2000. When I changed dentists they informed me that none of these things were true/needed. They are such liars, I really don't understand how they are still in business.

I agree. Don't go to this office. BUT, Dr. Matthews was an excellent and thorough dentist. Unfortunately she no longer works there and likely for the same inefficiencies previously discussed.

I just went to the Dental practice in Preston -I moved to NC from out of state and I am always concerned about getting a good Dentist, since I have bunch of issues. Dr. Ruma Simhan looked at my X rays and worked out a treatment plan with me, explaining everything in detail. She started my treatment and I am very pleased. Apparently, she started there only recently. She is extremely thorough, competent and my visit was really excellent. I would recommend her to everyone.

This was the strangest dentist experience I have ever had. I went in and was seen on time, had a very nice chat with the hygenist as she was taking the xrays. They took more xrays than any dentist has ever taken in my life in one sitting ... I think it was like 24 xrays, even though I didn't have any complaints or problems ... they explained that the dentist thought that she got the best diagnostic view with that many xrays. OK. I still didn't think anything was wrong.

Then Jennifer Matthews came in and poked around in my mouth for about 5 minutes and said I had a bad case of gingivitis, and said she recommended that I have their super-power-ultrasonic cleaning, because my gingivitis was so dire. She said that if we didn't act aggressively, it could turn into irreversible periodontal disease, but that we could still turn it around. OK, I was scared, I agreed, and I still didn't think anything was wrong.

On my way out, they asked me to sign some forms acknowledging that the recommended cleaning procedure was not covered by my insurance -- it would cost $350 out of my pocket. I was surprised, but scared, and so I agreed to pay it. I had to wait a month for a followon appointment. They seemed to have hardly any appointment slots available, and they seemed to be closed on a lot of odd workdays. But I scheduled, and I waited.

I called back before the day of my appointment and admitted that you know, some financial things had come up for me, and I didn't really want to pay $350 for a cleaning, was there any way they could just give me a "regular" cleaning that my insurance would cover? I was told no, that was impossible, that the procedure had to be "consistent with the diagnosis," and that I could have the super-cleaning or no cleaning at all! Now I was shocked. What if I didn't have the money? They would have just let me get periodontal disease, rather than give me the cleaning that my insurance covers? I cancelled my appointment.

I called and got an appointment with my old dentist (who is not in-network for my new insurance plan, but whom I trust). They made room in their calendar to see me on short notice, did an exam with full perio mapping (pocket-measuring), and said they found no gingivitis, no inflammation, no deep pockets, nearly no tartar, and that in fact, my teeth and gums looked "fabulous!" And they apparently often do ultrasonic cleanings, don't charge extra for it, and they didn't think I needed it, so they didn't use it. So now I am truly flabbergasted!

I am not an expert, but I will say that I do not trust Spelios Associates, and did not find them helpful to me. The hygenist *was* really nice, though!

Everytime I went there to see a dentist, the wait time was more than 1 hour. They have you sit in a dental chair in 15 min, but you would have to wait forever from there. Dentist see you for a min or two at most. She does not even bother look at my chart to review. They over charged me the first twice and took me more than 6 months to fix it. I really want to change dental office, but they are the only one in the area in my insurance network...

As most people, I am terrified of the dentist, avoiding dental treatment at all costs. I had some pretty bad experiences with several dentists before, and was apprehensive to see any type of dental professional. Due to this, I was seen on an emergency basis for tooth pain & swelling. I was very nervous, even to take the x-rays. I was amazed with the staff, from the warm smiles from the front staff to the dental assistants. Upon talking to the doctors about my anxieties, they each took the time to comfort me and were very patient with answering my questions. They explained the treatment plan to me and the necessity of each procedure. Dr Tasha Hinton performed my initial exam, and recommended that I have Dr. Jennifer Matthews perform my extraction. I was not prepared to have a tooth pulled!!
But I must comment on how great these two doctors worked as a team. Dr. Matthews performed a difficult extraction with ease and constantly made sure I was comfortable and not in any pain. I have seen many dentists and I know first-hand that sincerity and compassion are two traits that are very hard to find in this field.
To my dismay, I also needed 2 root canals. Spelios & Associates have an endodontist on staff named Dr. Wisniewski, who has over 28 years of experience. The thought of a root canal was horrifying, but Dr. Wis'(as he is affectionately known) humor helped put me at ease and amazingly I fell ASLEEP during the procedure, which is absurd!!! Asleep during a root canal?? Overall, compared to my past dental experiences-The doctors and staff at Spelios and Associates are absolutely great!

I just left my first visit with this office and was extremely pleased with my experience. It does take a while to actually see the dentist because you must fill out various medical history and insurance forms and then have your xrays taken prior to the exam. I found Dr. Matthews to be highly approachable, knowlegeable, and compassionate. She considered my dental, financial and anxiety needs in my treatment and she and her staff were very concerned that I understood my dental needs.
The previous review really bothers me because I feel people should be held accountable for maintaining timely appointments. It seems that if you have spent that much money with the office you would know where it was located. I used to work in a medical office and I think you should understand your role in keeping the doctor on time. If she sees a patient arriving half an hour late it makes everyone else have to wait for their appointments.
In summary, I had a positive experience with this office and felt that the staff was very concerned with my comprehensive care and found Dr. Matthews to be very knowledgeable.

After I have spent nearly $2,000 at this office, I had the pleasure of having my appointment cancelled on me today. This morning, I accidentally took a wrong turn on my way in for a follow-up dentist appointment. This wrong turn resulted in me being about 15-20 minutes late for the appointment. At 10:14, when I am about 5 minutes from the office, an office worker, Catherine, called me on my cell phone to inform me that my appointment was cancelled because I was 15 minutes late. I preceded to explain that I got lost, and that I would be there shortly. I truly thought this wouldn't be a problem, but Catherine let me know that it's the office policy that I had to be rescheduled. So, I explained to her how close I was, that I was traveling some distance to get there, and that my teeth were sore and I needed to keep the appointment. Catherine let me know this was impossible and I had to come in NEXT week. Out of frustration, I rescheduled. After I hung up, I thought about the conversation some more and became quit angry. Here I was only five minutes away, 1/2 hour into the trip, and I was told I couldn't come in!! In addition, I have arrived ON TIME for all my other appointments and in return for MY punctuality, I had to wait for over 45 minutes before I was seen. I called the office back and spoke to Catherine once more. I explained to her that I lived far away, I was literally 5 minutes from the office, my teeth were hurting, I unintentionally got lost, and there were numerous times when I had to WAIT for them. Catherine sympathized with me by cutting me off and telling me I should of called and that there was no way I could come in. I let her know that I didn't have the number with me (I don't know too many people who have their dentist's number on speed dial!). She said I was taking my anger out on the wrong person and needed to speak to the dentist. So, I asked to talk w/ the dentist (Dr. Matthews) and was told she was unavailable (go figure..). She preceded to tell me the dentist would call me later and then she handled the situation by hanging up on me!! How completely unprofessional! After such horrific treatment, I will no longer use this dentist and advice any of you who are considering it to find someone else!!!

I switched to this Office to gain the services of an experienced Dentist, Louis G Spelios. Cigna website allowed me to select him as the primary (DMA Policy) but after the enrollment period was over the office said that Louis's name is just used for advertising, my family was re-assigned to a very young inexperienced Dentist - Jennifer Matthews. My children and I had to wait until mid June to get our first "new Patient" appointments which assured us that we will NOT get our two 6month checkups within one calendar year. Then each of us waited 40 minutes beyond our scheduled appointment time in the waiting room. Follow up appointments are not made at completion of the appointment - had to call and call and call the office for days to obtain next appointments----which only one child was able to be scheduled this year. The worst of it was that due to an hereditary condition of a very low gum line, the inexperienced Dentist spending less then 6 minutes looking at my teeth/gums misdiagnosed the healthy low gum line as Gingivitis and now wants $600 to perform a Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing before any other services can be provided. She has refused to schedule a follow-up recheck so that she can spend more time assessing the situation unless I agreed to pay $60 for a consultation. She has told me that her office will not see me again (ever) without a Periodontal Specialist that she refers me to evaluating and clearing me of the Gingivitis diagnosis. My family and I have never been treated so badly in our collective 74 years of Dental services.
