We were looking for a nice family weekend camping trip and enjoyed our weekend at Wilderness Cove Campground. The tubing was lots of fun. I would recommend calling ahead to verify the "water release" schedule for the day. Also, if it is too rainy, they may choose not to rent tubes because the river is too swift. It was $9 for the 2 hour trip which was perfect for our family. My husband probably would have preferred an additional hour, but 2 hours was enough for our younger children (8 and 10). I wouldn't recommend tubing younger than 8. Our youngest is about 45lbs. and we tied her to my tube. The Green River was generally fairly calm with patches of rapids here and there. They classify this piece of it as class 1 and class 2 rapids. The management was good to give us tips to keep our ride safe and avoid rocky spots. We only had one patch where it was scary for our youngest...she swims well but because she's so light, she almost flipped her tube on a rock.

The campground itself was small and pleasant--about 20 sites. There are about 6 sites near the bathhouse that were the better selections in my opinion. Most of those had water & electric and a relatively roomy and grassy flat areas to camp. Then there are about 8 tent sites/primitive behind the pond that were very tight and on top of each other. I wouldn't recommend those. The bathhouse was simple but adequate (men and women's both had 2 showers, 2 toilets and a sink). The bathhouse was acceptably clean but the floor was on the muddy side. The basics were maintained (trash emptied, paper towels replaced). The management at the campsite was very nice. The general feel of the campground is laid back...good sites that could work for groups and enough parking. Campsites themselves could be a bit cleaner...bits of trash, bottletops, and cigarette butts here and there. We would go back again....sweet little place, good for what it was. The store had ice and carried a few basics--snacks, propane.

The people who ran the campground were pleasant and helpful. A good trip for us!

My husband and I took our 3 kids tubing at Wilderness Cove and had a wonderful family memory made there. The people that worked there were down to earth, helpful and friendly. You can tell that they genuinely care about their customers that come in there. We were provided with life jackets for our kids, which was great. They had a small store, which was great because we had forgotten our child's' water shoes and were able to buy some water and shoes there. We appreciated that there was a place to shower and change afterwards. We are definitely planning on taking our children back on a regular basis and making more solid family memories. It was great fun, for those who are into outdoor type activities. :)

For great fun at a price cheaper than the movies, go to Wilderness Cove Tubing in Saluda,NC and tube the the Green River. Good friendly service and excellent facilities make the experience even more enjoyable. Also check on their website at www.nctubing.com.

We will be back. Our family had a great time and we are making plans to come back this year. The staff was top notch and really helpful. I've alleady sent two other families to Wilderness Cove and both enjoyed it to.

Do yourself a favor and don't even waste the $7 per person to take this tube ride - THERE ARE TONS BETTER TUBING COMPANIES HERE! My sister, our husbands and our 3 kids (ages from 6-10) went tubing and they all fell out of the tubes and banged their heads on the rocks in the river - even with 4 adults trying to hold them (and ourselves) in.

Turns out there were Class 2 rapids - which isn't bad if you are expecting it but when you have 3 kids in tubes and you think you are out for a leisurely trip down the river, it isn't fun - it's dangerous. The WORST thing is that after the trip, we went in to talk to the owners to let them know that it was pretty rough for kids. The wife (Christy) admitted they knew it was rough and that she should have said something to us. I told them I was kind of shocked that they knew about the bad conditions but didn't care enough about the kids' safety to tell us. Her husband/co-owner said "you signed a waiver-you can't mess with me" and then said "b*tches will be b*tches." NOT kidding - he REALLY said that!

Let's just say that I won't EVER go back there again.

Should have stayed with Green River Cove Tubing - they are a little bit farther up the road but worth it because they are nice. They certainly have never told me I was a b*tch and never acted like my children's safety wasn't important.

Drive the extra 100 yds to another tubing company!

Message from Wilderness Cove Campground

River Tubing on the Green River is a lot of Fun!!! It is not a lazy river, it has Class I and II rapids on it, so this means swift water and deep water. Children must be 40" or taller to tube and tubing is not recommended for non-swimmers. Our water is dam released so give us a call the day before to get the best tubing times.
