My family had dinner at the restaurant on 9/2/09 and the food was FABULOUS!! The tuna appetizer and calamari were excellent. We each ordered a fresh fish special, tilefish and cobia. Both specials tasted great! My 2 year old had the children's chicken fingers and they were just as good as the rest of the meal. Very family friendly! Can't wait to go back!

It was exactly what I was looking for! We pulled in because of the sign for fresh local fish. We were pleased to find an unpretentious atmosphere with white table clothes. We were more pleased to find outdoor seating on the water.
We started with a salad and appetizer- very good. For dinner, we opted for the specials ($26) and they were delicious! We asked where the fish came from and the response was that the chef often caught it himself. Reasonable wine list and beers. Also a kids menu. The service was very good.
We enjoyed watching people kite-boarding, windsurfing and kayaking from our table, and opted for a coffee to stay and watch the sunset.
We'll definitely be back.

Coastal Blue was the only restaurant in Avon or Hatteras Island that would accomodate our family of 11, for a 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration for my parents. They were very friendly, accomodating and even gave us the name of a cake maker in the area for a special cake for the celebration.
When we got to the restaurant, they had put our table next to the windows with nice table cloths and flowers. They provided a small table for the cake to be displayed, so that we saw it right when we got to our table. The cake table and dining tables were decorated with ribbon from the cake, chocolates and flowers and looked very elegant.
We ordered off the menu but they had been willing to work with us for a special menu if we had desired that. The appetizers were to die for! Excellent and not too heavy. The main course varied from person to person but all were prepared gourmet style, very fancy.
The staff were extremely accomodating to us and I would definately recommend this restaurant-they really went out of their way to accomodate us!!
We had the added pleasure of a guitarist playing that evening, who played special songs for my parents and even toasted them. The restaurant is on the water, so you can view the sunset and even eat on the porch area by the water.
