Very nice restaurant, some of the best seafood I've ever had. Menu is great, selections were very fresh. Staff was friendly and helpful. Plus, they tell you the boat from Deadliest Catch where they get the crab!

If you love crab cakes, you must try these, either as an appetizer or as your meal. I have had them all over the country - DC, Baltimore Inner Harbor, wherever, and these are my favorite. If you are a real lover, get the appetizer feast covered with fresh shellfish. The wine list is extensive, and the servers are fabulous and very happy to make suggestions. Understand, the seafood is fresh and they try to present it in the best possible way, so if you do not like your tuna rare, make sure they know that. Otherwise, if you get your fish a little rarer than you like, it is probably because that is the appropriate way to serve it. Yes, it is going to be an expensive evening, but not any worse than most of the SouthPark, downtown eateries in Charlotte. Just like many of them, the menu is ala carte, and it will add up, but again, the food is as good as those restaurants as well. It is also a place where your children will be able to get a meal they will enjoy, unlike several other restaurants of the same caliber.

I went to have a nice dinner out with my boyfriend and it was the worst. Our server was not what I would consider professional sure he was older but not very attentive. If you are going to have high price food like places in New York and Chicago then you need to provide the quality and service at the same time. We spent over $200 for two of us and we didn't even have a bottle of wine. The absolut cosmo I had was $12 seriously??? They had ran out of what I wanted and my boyfriends swordfish was undercooked. Overall, it was awful and I will never be back. We go out often and do not mind spending the money on a good dinner as long as it is worth it.

Service is excellent - server knew how all menu items are prepared and their orgin. Table decor was lacking - there were cardboard boxes of salt and tin can of Old Bay, along with some ketchup bottles. For $160 (for 2 people) we expected a little nicer decor to stare at. The wine list was huge (there is a separate one if you don't find one you like on the basic list). The owner knows his wines. We ordered pumpkin swordfish (excellent) and ahi tuna (somewhat gritty - not the best tuna i've had for $30/plate). Items are a la carte, but large portions. Small hashbrown was huge (enough for 4 people), but rather bland (i would suggest ordering other potato preparation). Due to a la carte, your bill will add up quickly. We had the ice cream flaming merigue. It was excellent and great presentation, but enough for 4 people (again, large portions!). Staff was excellent and restaurant decor was very nice (lots of fish/shark hanging on the walls). We were seated immediately (we had a reservation but showed up early) and had a very quaint/private booth. I would recommend this restaurant - although prepare to spend more $$ than you expect to. Also do not be surprised if the tuna isn't as good as some sushi you've had.

My dining experience at this restaurant was exceptional. My dad and I dined there for my birthday and I would definitely go again. The crab cakes are a must have! Customer service was very professional yet approachable. However, if you are a big eater you might want to order an appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert. Basically, you are paying for the quality of the food not the quantity. Nonetheless, I would indeed continue to patronage this wonderful restaurant.

Not sure what I was expecting; Read a review from an article in the Hilton room were my wife and I stayed. We showed with some small notion of what to expect, and we had a blast! It was the day after Valentine's day, we called and got reservations the same evening. Showed up at the appointed time and enjoyed the experience from then until the end. The service; not just one waiter but 2, our server re-folded my wife's napkin while she was visiting the lady's room, that was the excellent level of service given throughout the meal. Being from Maryland, I have eaten seafood all of my life and know the difference between excellent, good, and bad seafood; from both restaurant and home cooked. This was some of the most excellent in quality, look, texture, and taste, that I've ever had. Be careful of ordering sides, as they are family style and 2 will be more than enough for any couple. Mashed potatoes with crab meat was especially nice to try, and the flavor was again unique but quite good. The asparagus came with a hollandaise sauce, the asparagus was tender and quite moist, while not stringy; the hollandaise, well I put it on some other things as well, since it tasted so awesome. We also ordered the hashbrowns, the server suggested that it was excellent for breakfast, since the small one we ordered was huge. He was right about the breakfast part, we had it the next morning. I had the scallops, which were succulent, buried in cheese, which was gooey. Extremely hard to find a place that does scallops well, this was such a place. My wife had the stuffed flounder, she enjoyed this so much that she actually finished most of her entree before eating any of the sides. Price was a little higher than I'm used too, but I couldn't really fault them with the experience being so good and the food being such good quality.

Pros: The feel of a 1930's restaurant, the freshness of the seafood

Cons: Parking, I think I would do valet next time.

We've been twice and enjoyed it both times. The atmosphere evokes a NYC seafood room from times gone by, without the dress code, or smoke. The drinks are healthy and the relish tray is unique (haven't seen pickled herring anywhere in Charlotte before). Our apps were outstanding without exception - the mussels are the best. Our best entree (swordfish) was A+ and our worst was B- (ahi tuna). The oyster bar is wonderful. Wine list is respectable if no bargain. Do not order one dessert per person, NO! Order one dessert for every three people and I'm not just being oooo I can't eat dessert. A slice of pie there is a quarter of a pie. The best thing? The service is perfect. Your wisest move is to tell your server what you like and how much you want to spend and let them handle it. They're that good.

Tonight I dined at The Oceanaire for the first time. I have to say that I don't ever recall being at a restaurant anywhere in the United States that provided such uniformly excellent customer service. My wine glass was never empty, nor my water glass. The staff engaged in conversation but never stepped over the line of becoming too familiar. They were attentive without being intrusive.

I once lived in Italy, and the kind of attention we received at the restaurant was reminiscent of the time that I spent in Europe, where wait staff take great pride in their work of making a perfect evening for the customer. I don't think there is a single thing that the service staff could have done to improve on their service. From the greeting we received upon arrival, to the well stocked and clean bathrooms, to the servers who attended to us, to the young lady who offered to run our valet ticket out to the valet stand in the pouring rain -- everyone seemed focused on ensuring a perfect evening for the customers.

I have lived in three different countries and travelled all over the world. I tip my hat to The Oceanaire and their staff. They really impressed me, and that's rather difficult to do these days. I will definitely recommend Oceanaire to others, not just for the fine food, but for the excellent, unparalleled service that was provided.

I wanted to write about my Oceanaire dinner last night, to let everyone know about the extraordinary dining experience my husband and I had at The Oceanaire.
It was the occasion of our 25th wedding anniversary and from the moment we were seated, we knew that we were in for a special evening. I was delighted to notice "Happy Anniversary" printed on our menu (which we took home as a souvenir of our evening) and equally surprised to receive a card! Both gestures were extremely thoughtful, totally unexpected and above and beyond the "norm" for a special nite out!
Our dinners were superb...I had the grilled Hawaiian tuna and my husband had the Mongchong...unbelievable! Not to mention the impecable service we received.
The baked Alaska was the proverbial "icing on the cake"!
We can't thank them enough for making such a special occasion so memorable for us! The Oceanaire has become my favorite restaurant now, and I can't wait to tell all of my friends what a great place they have!
Everything from the moment we walked in the door, was first class!
It was an absolutely delightful evening and we look forward to many more!

Today, I took my two employees to a luncheon that was supposed to have been our Holiday/Christmas Luncheon, but felt more like The Grinch who stole Christmas. We had expected much more than we got. We were greeted at the door by a very pleasant hostess and shown to our table. The surroundings were very nice , the table set to perfection as we expected with this type of menu and pricing. Our waiter, was slow in arriving and from the first acted as if we were interfering with something else he wished he was doing. It took forever for him to return to table with our beverages and got those wrong. He did eventually get the first beverages correct. But when leaving the hot tea tray, he left the whole box of teas on our table cluttering up our dining experience. Finally took it when another table asked for tea. Took him a really long time to come take our lunch order. When ordering our meal, my assistant ordered a sandwich that comes with a salad. She asked what dressings were available. He told her it came with house dressing. When the manager brought our meal, he asked her what kind of dressing she would like. There is not enough space here to give you the horrors of the extremely bad service received today. Could never get refills on the drinks we finally received. Food was deceit but after such poor service thought overpriced for mundane fare. If this was a ocean liner they should rename it "Titanic". We overheard other diners getting descriptions of specials etc from their waiter, whereas our waiter could barely be bothered to even notice we were actually sitting at the table and not merely a painting on the chairs. Had to wave the waiter down just to get a check and then about 15 minutes later, he asked... "Did you want that check now? Duh Huh? Did I not ask for it 15 minutes ago. Rest assured I will never darken those doors again and hopefully the good wait staff there will cause mutiny and save themselves.

From the moment you walk in the door to the time you depart The Oceanaire Seafood Room and its team of professionals will exceed all expectations. While on this 'oceanliner' you are greeted at every point of contact, lavished with some of this world's amazing delicacies, and feel apart of The Oceanaire 'crew.' My guests and I enjoyed the variety of oysters paired with a tasty bottle of champagne and were so hooked we had to stay for dinner. They have certainly taken fine dining to a whole new level. Oceanaire, you are certainly a hidden treasure in Southpark.
