Crooks!!! This company is a joke!!! Who doesnt love a good monopoly, huh?? I have lived in apartments in the Raleigh area since 2005 and my water bill was always $30-40 for myself AND A ROOMMATE. I bought a house for myself last year and for JUST MYSELF my water bill is $150-$200. I want to vomit on the 15th of every month anticipating how much I will be raped for!! I have had a leak search done on my home and everything is in proper working order. One less occupant in my house and yet the bill is 4-5x as much. Makes sense to me, Aqua!!! ALSO, I have been set up on auto pay for the past year, yet I have gotten THREE cancellation notices because they simply never draft my account!! I have called and asked on two occasions Am I set up on auto draft?? and the answer was YES, everything is set up correctly and you are fine, yet the payment never comes out and I am sent to cancellation status! My most recent cancellation notice came March 31st for my $205 water bill that apparently was never auto drafted on March 15th (even though everything is fine), so I frantically got on the phone and paid it immediately Yesterday the draft was automatically taken out (What a miracle!!!) and they had no online record of my March 31st payment. I called and they magically saw both payments in their INTERNAL system, but it would take 3-4 weeks for a refund. Well Aqua, you might as well keep it since Im sure I have another $200+ ONE PERSON water bill coming my water next month. This company makes me literally feel SICK!!

Never have I ever dealt with such disgusting water in my life (and I have lived / traveled to many places in the USA and worldwide). Not only are there continuous major problems with the water (usually it's brown, contaminated, or both),

Our new home was built in a community with community wells. Why our developer didn't give us pubic water is beyond my understanding.

Despite the horrible issues we have been dealing with in our new home, Aqua supposedly treats our community wells. But we have had nothing but issues from the beginning with our water. All we have been told by Aqua is that they will add more chlorine. Really?!!? That is not going to resolve the issues and will only damage our septic system's biology.

I was told when we bought our home that this house was move-in ready. All I had to buy was a fridge and a gas tank for the fireplace. Nobody told me I would have to pay nearly $6,000 more for a water filtration system to keep my family healthy and safe. Seriously!!!

Manganese levels twice the amount of legal limits. We have VOC's higher than health limits according to another test result we found. When I called to talk to Aqua about this, they had me speak to a supervisor. I told them of my deep concern...not fighting or anything but I wanted to know what the plan was to take care of these things. They hung up on me. I am not sure about the legalities but in my opinion, Aqua should get the proper filtration systems to better protect our communities from water that can make us sick! In my opinion, my builder should have disclosed the issues with the water. The report I discovered was apparently from before we purchased our home so in my opinion, the builder should have known about it but didn't tell us any of this.

So 1, 2-dichloroethane levels higher than health limits, Iron higher than health limits and Manganese levels higher than legal limits (twice the legal limits!!!) have been found...our water is yellow/brown with black gunk coming out and it stinks in our laundry...I call very concerned and they hang up on me?!!?

Had I had the chance to know that this community had these issues, I never would have bought this house...but then again, had I known this house had so many issues, I wouldn't have bought it. This is just the added salt to the open wound!

How did the utilities commission allow this company in? I live in Clayton, NC and I pay around $100/month for water and sewer in a 1500sq ft home. I live alone. This is a travesty. If I am a couple days late on a payment, I get a shutoff notice. Someone needs to do something about it, but who? This is the most heartless, greedy, piece of garbage company I've ever personally come into contact with and I hope they get sued out of existence.

Aqua NC has treated our neighborhood with neglect for at least 2 years. We have septic, so this post only applies to drinking water supplied to our homes. Portions of our neighborhood are hooke dinto a well that consistently sends high level of sediment into our homes. Several neighbors have called and the 877 number "opens a ticket". a local service truck is sometimes sent and when they do arrive, say that some sediment is normal and not dangerous. Residents are then left to deal with the nasty brownish water, high cost of changing fridge filters and dirty white laundy loads. I'm researching lawyers and will not sit down while this lack of customer service and quality of product continues. Want a laugh, check Aqua's web for their mission statement.

I am an unfortunate resident of the State of Missouri. We have Aqua Missouri here which is owned by the gigantic company Aqua America. A company that should be forced to break up as a monopoly and the company should be investigated by the FBI. My landlord refuses to deal with this company because, "they are such thieves." For five and a half years I have been subjected to constant attempts to cheat me by this company. The worst thing you can do is try to pay them by check. They will take approximately 10 days to deposit a check when received and then post a late charge to your account. When you call them they say you must give them every detail and go through bills and you must know the exact date of the bill where they billed incorrectly. They won't look up anything or do their job themselves. One neighbor I had near me had to read his meter every month because they constantly reported the wrong figure for water usage and tried to over charge him. They lie and claim you never called when you did call them and they hang up on you and are very rude. I have taken them to the Missouri Utilities Commission several times but the Commission bends over backward for the utility. One state investigator told me with a sneer that the company can bill me as often as 14 times per year for water under commission rules. So I can be billed legally 14 times per year with a monthly bill and others may only get 12 bills. When Matt Blunt was Governor of Missouri I could at least get fair service from the Utilities Commission but not now that we have Jay Nixon a Democrat for Governor. Living in Missouri is now like living in Chicago. Thugs with state jobs and no justice. Even paying with a credit card doesn't help although you made all the monthly payments and are forced to pay an extra $3.50 per payment. The Missouri State Utilities Commission should also be investigated by the FBI. I suspect that money may be going from the company to the Utilities Commission employees under the table. Thus resulting in the assertion from the nasty utilities commission employee that they can charge me a monthly bill 14 times in one year. Things are so unjust now. God help us all as we try to pay our bills and get cheated constantly. I don't know why people in Missouri don't post anything about Aqua Missouri. Thought I would post this as this is under the same umbrella company Aqua America. If anyone has any suggestions for me please post them. I now have my water turned off and don't want to turn it back on because I don't have time to deal with these thieves. It is very inconvenient to not have water.

I personaly do not know how the ulilities commition can justify these rates.I was paying 26.00 dollars a month which is more than fare for just water for me and my wife only and they allowed them to raise our rate to 48.00 dollars and change for just water and no waste water .I don,t see how they justify that and still sleep at night.

Hello friends,I am one of the ripped-off customers of water service through Aqua of North Carolina.I was at the utility commission meeting which gave Aqua the power to charge the present price:$63 for waste water treatment plus $15 just for being a customer(Ha!) and the remainder(approx $35 for me myself alone water usage/mo.) totals about $113/mo.The water, which I had tested personally,is NOT safe for drinking. With all this "treatment",I wonder why the water quality is unsafe! According to their analysis "if you do not have a health problem,it is safe for you to drink the water".Wow! Does this mean that if you do not have a health problem NOW you may look to have one eventually from consuming this water? I do not only blame Aqua for this injustice,I also blame the N.C.Utilities Commission for letting them bring this threatening situation and cost to the citizens of North Carolina.God help us all who live under this tyranny. Our HOA allowed this initially. Before you move in this area:Be warned of what will follow!

Aqua charges 64.00 for sewer and 30.00 for Water all of which they pay the Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities a grand total of $8.00. Findley of the Utility Commission approved this. It is rumored that Findley is looking at Aqua for his next job. You got to wonder why. Thanks to one person on the inside some of the stuff is leaking out despite the leak stopper used recently.

I have great concerns regarding this water company. It's disturbing to learn that your water can be shut off in a heartbeat and slow to turn it back on. It doesn't matter whether the error, mistake, fault etc is on the company side or consumer side! The company makes it very clear that the one with the water shut off is not a priority, as the workers have other job responsibilities and they will get around to turning the water back on when they can! How healthy is that? Geez! Unfortunately in the state of NC, water is not a protected public utility. So sad. I work with many people that are struggling financially and the company is not interested in working things out with the consumer. YET...the price keeps going up (in more ways than one)......

Like the other reviews, I have been very frustrated that Aqua NC's website is barbaric and doesn't offer online bill pay. We have been with them just shy of 3 years and for some reason, I have received late fees on my past 4 bills. The first month I thought MAYBE I was a day or two too late getting the payment in the mail and was pushing it close to the due date. But the following months and July in particular I know for a fact that payment was mailed on 7/2 for a due date of 7/13. I called this morning and they posted payment on 7/21. That is absurd. I'm in Wake Forest and my family in Texas and Ohio consistently gets mail that I send to them within 2-3 days. I'm detecting a pattern and am wondering if they're sitting on payments or doing something fishy to generate more revenue in these not-so-bright economic times. I refuse to go to Western Union and pay a processing fee.
I'm hoping that by posting this, others that may be experiencing the same thing will contact me and we can put our info together and take action.

I live in Mallards crossing subdivision in Raleigh- a single mom with 2 kids and am baffled at how I had no sewage going out of my house for a month- nor water (we were staying with my mother) and the bill is still $85. How can we be charged for sewage at a rate of 3 times the amount of water. If I only use 20$ in water- I can't possibly have 66$ in sewage going out. This is the most outrageous rip off I have ever had to endure- I can not wait to move out of this subdivision and will never again move to a place where water is controlled by Aqua NC. IT IS DISGRACEFUL how they rip people off.

Pros: None at all- had to give 1 star because site forced.

Cons: charge 3 times for water going out than water coming in

Please keep this in mind if you are making an individual or large-scale decision for water service in Apex or surrounding area: My family just returned from a two-week vacation to California and found our water service discontinued. Note: We have been customers with Aqua for close to 6 years and never had a problem with billing or late payments. We returned to find no water pressure, no running water, no notification via email, phone, etc. We were very surprised at this termination.

The kicker: Both my daughter (age 9) and I are very sick. We returned from Cali with the bug. We arrived home on Saturday, Oct 31 and immediately contacted Aqua emergency services who responded with "there is nothing we can do". Needless to say, we have not had running water in our home for close to three days now, with two very sick individuals and we now see signs of my youngest (age 4) developing the bug. We cannot bathe ourselves to prevent the spread of this bug and the sanitary conditions are not favorable to keep the bug from spreading. I do not want to get graphic, but just imagine the waste of 5 individuals with no running water. This is not acceptable for a family with close to six years of on-time payment.

Just heard from customer service that the earliest they would be able to turn water on is tomorrow, November 3rd. That's the earliest, they can't guarantee it.

Sickened by the lack of customer service and the risk that this puts the rest of the family, neighbors and coworkers. Given the challenges that we face at the city, state and national level regarding flu outbreaks, etc., you'd think a utility provider would have more care and sense in addressing this situation!!!!

Next step is to contact NC DHHS and representatives. Seems Aqua has a hold on our subdivision and we are at their mercy. This not good business or health policy.

Pros: None

Cons: Terrible customer service and inability to respond quickly

What more can you say when you get a $380 monthly water bill with a 4 person family during a month when you were out of town for a week. Well, I will tell you what Aqua said, sorry for the misread, how about my June invoice with double the usage of my yearly avg? Sorry, cant go back that far $240 is your bill.

In this day, with everyone scrambling to stimulate spending I am embarrassed to say that my commissions approved an increase by Aqua earlier this year. They should be ashamed.

I pay $120 per month for my water and during the warm months $70 for my outside meter. That is like half a year in most other towns. I am making it my personal mission to affect change.

100 years ago, my great grandparents got their phone bill in the mail and had to submit a check for payment. This is the same way this company still operates.

They do not have any form of electronic payment or account management. EVERY other utility, credit card, and insurance company I use offers online services. Phone information is only during weekday business hours.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! AVOID MOVING INTO A SUBDIVISION WITH WATER MANAGED BY THESE PEOPLE!!!!!!

COME ON AUQA NC, GET INTO THE @!st CENTURY!!!!!!!!

Mr. Finley,
I am a resident of Mallard Crossing Subdivision. My husband and I have two daughters, one which has moved out two years ago.. We have lived in this house for the past 15 years. I just recently learned about the possibility of Aqua NC Water Company plans to request a higher water rate. When we purchased our house, we went from a $20.00 every three month City of Raleigh Water bill, (which also includes trash/recycle pickup) to $63.00 a month water only bill that summer. Now mind you, my daughter would visit my parents for the whole summer so it was only two of us in the house at the time and the bill was ridiculous. When I investigated I was told that we had a $43.00 flat sewage bill per house. I do agree that it is more expensive to buy/own a home then it is to rent. What I did not understand is that it was two-thirds hirer for the same amount of dwelling space and number of people residing in that space. My apartment was the same square footage as my house.
Currently our monthly water bill range from $102. - $110. per month. Even though everyone leaves home for approximately 10-12 hours, 6 times a week; now, 2009, I believe the flat sewer fee for our subdivision is $60. per month. No one or even two people would utilize the toilet to justify $60. per month sewage fee. Each year it is consistently going up and your water usage is staying the same. This is a crime. What is worse is that it is a legal crime. The government who continues to approve these ridiculous price hikes. What are they using to justify raising their rates? We do not have a meter to even measure our sewage usage. In addition, we have always and continue to have very poor water conditions. Over half of the neighborhood state that they purchase bottle water for consumption. So, tell me how or what means of justification are they using to continue being granted permission to raise the water rates.
If you have a leak, they have no sympathy or compassion?Just the give me my money attitude or I will turn your water off tomorrow. Yep! You heard it right at least the City bills you every three months and then you can or may have an overlap before paying your bill in full. Not Aqua its bill today and p1ay tomorrow, NO EXCEPTIONS. Which is also a huge problem since some houses were built in the mid-late 80??s when PVC piping was used, alot of us have had to replace the entire plumbing to hopefully eliminate high water bills but they just continually get the county??s approval to raise their rates.
When people are use to getting a modest water bill the shock that you receive moving into the neighborhood as well as the poor service you continue to receive is ridiculous. If you choose not to regulate them then at least give us an option of another water company. This is a true example being ??monopolized?

Aqua America NC are among the worst run companies I have ever dealt with. They definately overcharge on the water rates, guess meter readings regularly, charge extortionate sewer rates based on total water gallons. Not to mention the so called "mantenance fees" etc. Here in cary/Apex its a rip off. You can buy bottled water for less.
They don't have a sensible web site thats customer orientated, they don't send paperless e-mail bills, they WON'T accept electronic payments that don't go through a third party (with a charge of course) They have "bankers hours" for customer no support. Send you final demands if you are a few days late threatening to cut you off in 3 days of you don't pay NOW. I skipped a payment and got a shut off notice today, 10/17/08 AND must pay em by 8:00am on the 21st or they cut me off. Well there's a week end in there. oh yes, I can go to Food Lion and stand on line to pay them, take a day off work and go to their shambles of a local office, but ....... It really is time these idiots at aqua moved into the 21st century and bught a computer online credit card payment system like everyone else does. Did I mention I pay ALL my other bills on line directly to their site and receive all electronic bills, try that with Aqua's antique systems.
You'd be better off having a well and a bucket than trying to make any sense of this companies buisness payment practices.

Aqua North Carolina is already over-priced compared to other suburban areas covered by other companies AND we just received notice today that the rates are being increased! In addition to this, we had a water leak in our front yard, and on the very day we saw a problem, we had it fixed. Then we received an $1800 water bill!! (Our average bill is $110) This is almost 18x the regular monthly amount! After I faxed over our repair bill, I was told that "there was nothing they could do to help us, since in 2007 we received a $70 credit for a leaking toilet we had fixed"..."and this courtesy that we provide can only be utilized every 2 years"....that's it! end of story! they could care less that this is ridiculous and we can't afford this. They did however offer us the option to make a 'payment arrangement'...GREAT!

Cons: AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE

If you are thinking of moving into an area serviced by Aqua North Carolina Inc...think twice before moving!! They absoluteley rake you over the coals for water and sewer service!!! In the Apex area of Kildaire Farm Road, they are priced about 6 times higher than that of Raleigh's water and sewer!! Yes, you read right SIX times higher!!! There are 2 adults and an infant in our family and our MONTHLY bill is right around $120. Yip, monthly. We were paying $60 ever THREE months in Raliegh. And before you ask, we are very conservative with our usage (can't afford it here!).

Are you ready for the kicker?? On your bill, they show usage per gallon for water and show usage per gallon of sewage but oddly enough, there is only one meter and that is on the incoming water main!?! How is it possible to measure sewage per gallon without a meter you ask?? They don't...period. They just assume. So if you water your lawn, wash your car or do anything with water that does NOT go down the drain, you are charged sewage for it! Why you ask? Sounds a lot like theft doesn't it? A monopoly is the only reason I can think of. They are crooks if you ask me... In my opinion, look elsewhere if the area you are looking at is serviced by them...and I thought the gas prices were high?
