I am only in Charlotte because I attend school here. As such, most of my medical needs are taken care of when I return to my hometown, 3 hours away, where my primary care doctor and another OB/gyn I have seen, are located. However, because I am in Charlotte for the next few years, I figured it would be a good idea to at least have an OB/gyn up here should my husband and I encounter any "surprises."
I went to see Dr. Porter (I do not have a preference as to male/female dr - and Dr. Porter could get me in that same day, so he's who I ended up with). Before the exam, he sat me down in his office to "chat" - and continued to lecture me for the next 30 minutes about things I had mentioned on my chart. There was no chatting, no questions as to why I "checked" this or that on my chart - just lecture. If he didn't ASK me why I was feeling the way I was feeling, how can he proceed to lecture me on why he THINKS I'm feeling this or that way? But, that is just what he did.
I also noticed his office staff and nurses are nowhere near as friendly as the staff/nurses at my previous ob/gyn. They were curt (in person and on phone), rushed, and didn't smile. Sometimes all you need is a smile... The exam was curt and rushed as well (other than the 30 min lecture beforehand).
Since Dr. Porter is the only doctor I have a "relationship" with in Charlotte, when I began having symptoms of a "non-gynecological" nature, I gave the office a call to see if they could run a quick blood test (which my primary care doc. had suggested after listening/talking to me - but couldn't do herself b/c she's 3 hours away). You would have thought I asked the staff at Mintview to rob a bank! I didn't even see or talk to a doctor to see if my symptoms warranted the testing (I guess they took my word for it that I had spoken to my primary care doc?) And the nurse/lab tech who took my blood for testing? She didn't even know why she was doing it - I asked her what the next step was if the test came back normal (I knew the next step if the test was abnormal) - and she just stared at me and shrugged!!!
So, when the office called with my test results (after 6 long days - I was told they would be back in 2-3 days) I asked the person giving me the results the same question - what's the next step. She rudely said, "Go see your primary care doctor." Thanks for the help, really! Guess I'll be making the 3-hour trek back to see my old OB/gyn, too because I will NOT go back to Mintview!
I wouldn't be so put off if they didn't know my situation. But when I called and asked for the blood test, I made it explicitly clear that I DO NOT have a primary care doctor in or around Charlotte and that this was a fairly urgent matter - or else I would wait to go back and see my primary care doc. Now, I've suffered with these symptoms for a week longer than I needed to while waiting on Mintview to help me - to no avail. And I still don't have any answers! Thank you Mintview!!!

Pros: Got an appointment quickly

Cons: Everything else...

Ok, so I saw the other reviews and had to go through the hassle of joining Citysearch to set the record straight in my own review. I do not know how the two other folks could have such a vastly different experience with Dr. Rogers and Mintview, but I am here to say that I would walk through glass to stick with Dr. Rogers. In fact, I drive almost 2 hours to keep her as my OB since I have moved to SC from Charlotte. She is truly fabulous and incredibly concerned for her patients. She calls me to check on me, she emails, she remembers tiny details about my life and that of my family. She has been with me through 5 pregnancies, and counseled me through the loss of 3 of these. I would recommend her to ANYONE, with absolutely NO reservation. I have also been very pleased with the office staff and the billing department. They have been beyond helpful in keeping us informed of the trickery our insurance company has tried to pull, and they bent over backward to help us fight for money we deserved from our insurance providers. So, please ignore the other reviews, and feel free to give Mintview and Dr. Rogers a try!

Pros: I LOVE this practice

Cons: none

I was charged a $35 co-pay for my routine exam the first (and last) time I went to see Dr. Kelly-Jones. I knew it should be $20 but thought that after I called my insurance to confirm it, they would just reimburse me the $15 on my credit card. If I had known that a full month later I would still be waiting for a check, which I have to go out of my way to cash, I would have refused to pay it. When I talked to someone in the business office, they said that they always charge $35 in case it turns into something more than a routine exam. This makes no sense whatsoever. I will not return to this practice because I don't want to have to chase down $15 after every visit. I am currently still waiting for them to return a call I placed two hours ago to the business office. It is not that I am desperate for $15, it's that this demonstrates that I can't trust them to have my best interests in mind. They seem to be more concerned about the patients money than their convenience. I have never had this happen at any other doctor that I have been to. FYI - it has been a month and a day since my appointment and I received the claim information from my insurance in the mail about two weeks ago.

Unless you plan to keep your mouth shut and agree with everything this woman says, you may as well try a new doc. She will not listen when you bring up concerns. She forges ahead with whatever she wants to talk about.

Worse than that are the comments: "I KNOW pregnancy is a difficult thing to go through -- uh I mean i don't have my own kids, but my partner does." (sorry honey, but unless you , yourself have BEEN pregnant, you DON'T know.)

In response to my asking about light duty (I work a physically demanding job and am exposed to chemicals and diseases, and have had 4 miscarriages) -- "We don;'t even know if this baby is going to MAKE it! Why don't you talk to me about that when we know this pregnancy is going to survive."

None of the tests they did had been discussed. My bld type was never tested, even when I miscarried 4 months ago...and it just so happens that I am an rh factor (-). I was never given the Rh immune globulin shot the last time I miscarried.

When I brought up that I didn't know what any of the tests were - her response was: " Well that's b/c every time you see me, we never get to talk about them because you keep talking about light duty/disability"

I never asked for disability. EVER. I am a workaholic! My bosses want me to go on light duty, i.e. work in a different, non-stressful, dangerous environment within the facility, but they can't put me there without a doctor's note.

While making my last appointment I inadvertantly found out i was a week and a half further along than i was told previously. Apparently they changed my due date the last appointment I had and never told me.

I could go on for hours.

I went to Dr. Rogers and thought she was excellent. I'd been to 2 other ob/gyns in Charlotte and thought they were totally judgemental and impersonal. Dr. Rogers was the total opposite. She took time to chat with me about my concerns and was very thoughtful and knowledgable. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for an ob/gyn in the Charlotte area.

Pros: Dr. Rogers

Cons: The office staff seemed a little cold

.

Dr. Rogers is very impersonal. She makes rude remarks to her patients and you will feel rushed during your exams. She does not answer questions fully and I would not trust her to deliver my child! The customer service desks are always very busy and you will most likely get put on hold if you call for anything. The office is on the second floor of a medical building and it is outdated compared to other OBGYNs. Dr. Roger's nurse was very kind though. I never saw any of the other doctors in this practice, but after having two bad appointments with Dr. Rogers I decided not to go back. Dr. Rogers definitely makes this office look bad!
