I personally had a great experience. I was a first time home buyer and I am sure I worried Martin and Dan with my panic attacks and deadlines created in MY own head, but they were always responsive, professional and didnt mind elaborating and re-explaining things until I felt secure and comfortable. I would highly recommend them to anyone that is looking to buy a home. From start to finish, they held true to their committment. The GFE that was provided as a "best estimate" was very close to the exact amount but actually I ended up paying less than expected. The team in Raleigh made me feel as if they had my best interests covered!!!

People always tend to write reviews when they have had negative experiences and all of the positive experiences go unoticed. Being a Realtor, I can attest to the fact that mortgage lenders and Realtors alike have to be judged independently, as the company is not always as good or bad as the individual.

I have completed several deals with Martin Bonis at DNJ Mortgage and give him the highest marks. I am very cautious of who I deal with when representing my clients. Anyone I conduct business with has to have my client's best interest in mind at all times and they have to communicate with me constantly. Martin has exceeded my expectations on both counts, and that's hard to do.

I'm sorry some people had bad experiences with different lenders at DNJ. The company isn't bad, those lenders were. My advice, DNJ has some great programs available and some very creative ways to fit the right product to the client's needs. When you call DNJ, just be sure to ask for Martin Bonis.

My husband and I contacted DNJ to refinance our home. Anytime you are dealing with a loan for such a large purchase, it can be nerve-racking. Richard did nothing to help ease that anxiety. Our first conversation, he was very helpful and took the time to answer a lot of our questions but the experience quickly soured after that initial call. He would promise a response by a given time and then not call for days. He did not return our calls or emails. We ultimately went with another lender after several weeks of the process being drawn out. Our current lender completed the same process in two days & at a lower rate. I think we would still be waiting had we stayed with DNJ. Wish I had seen the poor reviews beforehand and saved ourselves the time and hassle.

My husband and I refinanced with DNJ and had a truly horrible experience. We seriously considered cutting them loose several times, but in the late fall of '10 locked in a great rate at a time that rates were on the rise. Where to begin...
We were never quite sure if they wanted to do business with us. They were hard to reach, but eventually would call us back and reassure us that everything was fine.
We frequently received documents with bad math, that showed us still owing money that we had already paid (for the appraisal, for example). They kept telling us that it was just an estimate, rather than fix the bad numbers. But getting an estimate with obvious errors is not reassuring. They preferred to argue about the paperwork rather than just plug in accurate numbers.
We told them numerous times that we did not want to escrow the property tax, and yet until the final hour, they did not modify the paperwork accordingly.
After getting the appraisal and realizing that we would be able to achieve a 20% down-payment by bringing money to the table (and thus avoiding the mortgage insurance), we were told repeatedly that bringing cash to the table was financially a bad idea.
They were also hostile towards our homeowners insurance agent, who we have a longstanding good relationship with. The bottom line, shop around before refinancing/purchasing, but whatever you do, don't work with DNJ.

Business Response:

Both these bad reviews are in regards to a Loan Officer who is no longer with DNJ - he was never part of the Riano Team. What can we say - sometime's there's a bad apple - read what our satisfied long-time clients said about our service. http://rianomortgageteam.com/customer-reviews-dnj-mortgage

Working with this company was a nightmare from start to finish. Whilst I know that buying a house/getting a mortgage isn't meant to be fun and is bound to be stressful, this company took the biscuit when it came to incompetence. The broker was more interested in promoting his own brilliance (or lack thereof) than actually keeping us informed and getting us closed. Due to his error we closed a week later than we were supposed to, risking homelessness and then he had the nerve to blame us. The reason we were delayed was the fact that the paperwork had expired and he "forgot". In short, I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy.
