I am new to Raleigh and attended the live music at Capital City on Friday. The weather was perfect for it. I did not know before arriving that they have a wine and beer bar inside so I was able to bring my drink onto the covered porch and enjoy the band. It was interesting to learn that customers can also enjoy their favorite wine or beer while grocery shopping. What a clever idea!

Pros: Ambience, Parking

Cons: Little tough to find

How convenient is this? At Capital City Grocery, I can email my grocery list to the store and they will do my shopping for me! Now I don?t have to tote my two-year-old around in the grocery store for an hour trying to get all the ingredients for the impromptu dinner my husband planned; I can merely send my list from the comfort of my home and go pick up the groceries. A really nice service to have for a busy mom on the go. I will definitely be back at Captial City Grocery soon!

Finding affordable and convenient groceries in downtown Raleigh has always been a challenge. I was excited to hear that the Capital City Grocery on Franklin Street was opening its doors again. I couldn?t resist and I visited the store days after its opening and was blown away by the affordable selection and friendly staff. I found everything I was looking for and more as I perused the hundreds of artisan wines and beers in its collection. It was refreshing to have quality service and a great selection at such a convenient location. Since my first visit, I still continue to find their friendly and knowledgeable staff a breath of fresh air and I sincerely recommend that if you are a Raleigh resident, you take the time to stop by and check it out for yourself.

Capital Grocery has re-opened and needs to re-close. They offer nothing but high prices and poor selection.
The food bar is horrible. I have given it two chances and I think today was the worst meal I have ever paid for. It is more expensive than Whole Foods with a fraction of the selection. Today at 1:00 the macaroni and cheese was a congealed scab that I could not even dish out to sample, the broccoli was brown and soggy, there was something pink that may have been ham and some dried up potatoes. I got a few chicked drummettes. They were sickening with some sort of mushy bread over some cold, greasy meat that oozed grease.
The "salad" bar. I throw away my lettuce when it looks like what they offer. The cucumbers were days old and mushy but they were the freshest vegetable, everything else looked dangerous. There were 6 dressings, two were labeled, the other four unidentified and two were empty. All of the plastic bottles were greasy and sticky with filthy spouts.
If you are starving and have found some money, eat there but you would do better walking to the Shell station and buying some crackers.

Cons: bad, stale food

They were open for a short time to fall in love with the convenience of not having to drive to Cameron Village and closed in a flash. Why did they close? Poor selection, constantly out of stock on many items they were "supposed" to carry. Maybe when they open, they can scrap the enormous wine selection and put in more food!! I mean, there is a wine store right across the road from them...but it's most likely about the profits that arise from selling wine...sigh. I wish they would buy out the restaurant next door, close it down and expand. That's the only way they might actually survive. What do I do now? Well, I drive by here and there and make a distasteful sound when I see they are STILL closed (what's it been 3 months now?). At this point I doubt I will ever go back...poor planning, worse management and not a clue what they should have done to stay in business in the first place. Cameron Village here I come.

Pros: Location

Cons: Closed after they were open for how long?
