Update: 5/11/10 The owner of Casona's has been in contact with us and is having us to his restaurant along with 20 of our guests for an evening on him.

We had a reservation last night for 7:30pm for a party of 8. We arrived at 7:25. We were told our table was almost ready, as another party was getting ready to leave our table.(We heard this excuse for an hour and a half). At 9:00pm, our entire party left and went to Cafe Aldo Lamberti on Rt. 70. We were never given an apology, never offered a complimentary mojito mixer, nothing. We had been to Casona's at least 2 dozen times before. In fact, my husband frequently entertains clients there and spends quite a lot of money there. We will never go back. It was truly, the worst experience we have ever had.

the food is delicious, especially the steak and the paella. The hearts of palm salad is really good, and the outdoor dining is very nice in the summer.

Love this spot for brunch. Good menu with lots of interesting choices. Never had a bad meal here. The outdoor porch makes it even better, and because they heat it, it's even open in winter.

This restaurant serves truly authentic Latin cuisine! Very nice romantic evening out - without the children. The service is outstanding and the food is good too. The portions are so generous that you could probably order one dish and share!

Great restaurant for a night without the kids. They specialize in Cuban and Latin foods. They also have a vegitarian menu which is great. The porch is beautiful for dining in warmer weather. They serve brunch, lunch, and dinner. Also can reserve romm for special occasions in restaurant.

After two visits to Casona, I'm hooked. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the combinations of flavors are interesting and addictive. The pulled pork and plantain appetizer is fantastic and the filet will melt in your mouth. Definitely worth the trip to Collingswood. Outdoor dining is also a plus.

The food was excellent and a nice change form the ordinary. The atmosphere is very classy and relaxing. the light latin background music adds to the great Cuban food. My favorite dish is the Paella and for brunch the Casona Burgers with Empanadas as an appetizer. I wil return again and again.

Casona has been around for a while now, it has only gotten better. I don't know of any other restaurant that will go to almost any means to please it's customers. Sure they have had their ticks and problems, but they recognize their issues and deal with them.. I've been going there for years. It's a great place. Don't miss it. You will see what I mean.

Pros: Beautiful space, quality food, fun by thoughtful and caring owners, good kids menu

Cons: Occastional bumps with service and food

.

Casona opened with a splash. Great food, great service and great location with a porch. Casona still has a porch which affords a great dining experience on warm evenings in the spring, summer and early fall. Unfortunately, the food and service took a turn for the worse this past winter as the result of a new chef and turnover of key staff. After a brief golden age, Casona quickly devolved to a mediocre dining experience.

When it comes to overall experrience Casona is the place to go. The food, I recommend the snapper, was far better than expected. The service was the most professional from any food establishment I've been to. My party was treated as if we were the only ones there, at a time when every table was full. The speed of service, decor, and overall atmosphere couldn't have been better. If you haven't visited Casona, you must put it on your to do list immediately. Highly Recommended! Thank you Larry and Staff.

Pros: Overall quality! Food, atmostphere, excellant.

Cons: If I have to pick a con, it's parking. But the curb side parking is reasonable.

I love Casona! My Mother and I dine at Casona often... My schedule and lifestyle allow me to travel back and forth between Tampa, Florida and Cherry Hill. Also, I am half Cuban and know what is authentic and Neuvo. Casona does both - very well. The ropa vieja, lechon asado, picadillo and the arroz con pollo are very tasty and true to the caribbean flavor. The paella is bursting with fresh seafood, fluffy safron rice, chorizo and juicy chicken. They have great options for steak lovers! Casona's filet is fabulous! If you are in the mood for a good Latin style steak - try the churascco. It's as good if not better than any you could get in a Brazilian steak house. The in excellent in house coffee and dessert bar are available to make your favorite coffee, tea, smoothie, flan and of course the famous "tres leches" cake. Casona is run out of a renovated colonial revival manse with a grand wrap around porch. The beautilful landscaping and caribbean colors make it the place to be - expecially when the weather is nice. Service at Casona can seem relaxed, but what many people do not realize is that it is supposed to be at this pace. At times, we have experienced delays with food timing and extended waits in between courses. The two times this happened, we were informed by our server of the issue and we were fine. Don't miss Sunday brunch. The variations on classics like "arepa eggs benedict," "churassco steak and eggs," combined with French toast , waffles and omlettes truly set Casona apart. I and many, many others support Casona, and we want them to succeed. This is why, some of us have decided to review them in such detail.

Cons: closed on Mondays

I've gotta jump into this conversation...
Casona is a gem of a restaurant and cafe bar. The food is exceptional, beautifully prepared and presented. The cafe bar is fantastic ; the best coffee service in town!
This old house was restored and renovated; adding a beautiful historic presence to the block with a gracious welcoming wrap around dining porch.
The staff is fun, engaging and well informed; service is professional.
I love eating at Casona. It's a delicious getaway from the usual fare. Don't miss the porch dining.

Me and my husband have visited Casona on many occasions. The restaurant is spectacular, and the porch is our favorite place to enjoy a five star dinner in a calm, tropical atmosphere. The service is excellent and friendly. Some of our favorite dishes are the mariquitas (nacho style plantain chips), paella, the roasted pork, and the benedict eggs for brunch are superb. For dessert, the best of all, and a must have, are the exquisitely handcrafted flans. Our favorite flavors are the chocolate and coconut. My husband has been to Spain many times on business and has had flans from all parts of the country. He swears that they don't compare to the flans at Casona.

I was shocked to read the review before mine on this site. Me and my better half were also at Casona on Sunday for brunch. We have been there many times, Casona has become our favorite place. It's funny, we were there for around two hours this past Sunday. We saw the owner open the door to the porch once to retrieve something. We also saw him apologizet o the guests sitting next to the door. He then went around and asked us and others if the temperature was OK for them. I tell you I saw this with my own eyes - this person is lying. Casona has the best brunch this side of New York. I should know - I live there. We love that we can bring our own for mimosas, ect. Cuban food is not usually spicy, but the huevos rancheros have a nice kick. The byo classification does not do this place justice. This place is a world class, full service restaurant. I glad that they have so many supporters and regulars. People like Casona so much because the food is great, the place is beautiful, the owner and staff are personable and professional and it has a cool Latin vibe. Shame on those who try to bash this and other places Stay home or get lost!!!

Cons: You may be subjected to unreasonable customers' stupity and inpatience

My first visit was for brunch on Sunday. I felt very disappointed in the ambience and service and it was not crowded--so--no excuse! Twice one of the staff opened the door behind me letting cold air in. I do not think the restaurant captures any Latin feeling at all. I felt it took a long time for the food to come and my waffle was not hot. The food was okay--I will say the bacon was delicious. The servers were indifferent and lacking in personality. No hospitable feeling. I don't understand why people like this place.

As a former chef, I do not hand out stars easily. I agree with a previous reviewer that too many people give out 5 stars when everything is not perfect. I know I am not Zagats or Michelin, but a restaurant needs to really shine to earn 5 stars. That being said, I really liked Casona, service-5, food-3.5, ambiance 4. We were seated on the edge of the porch (25 degree night) yet we were very comfortable. Our waiter was attentive, really knew the menu, and ended up making very good recommendations. We had the crab cocktail special that was that was a bit pricey at $12.95, but turned out to worth every penny. The flavor combination of cilantro, mango and jumbo lump crab was fantastic. I really enjoyed my cheese empanadas, which had plenty of flavor and were nice and hot. The Caesar salad was the biggest disappointment of the meal. The whole leaves of romaine lettuce and large slices of proscuito made for way too much work, but the dressing was very good. This is a case of presentation getting in the way of the food. The entrees were the stripped bass with the best risotto I ever had, and a Churrasco steak that was under cooked. The steak, which was ordered medium, had tremendous flavor, but the thick end (about a third of the steak) was really rare. Our desert was a decadent flavorful 3 milk cake. I have long been a fan of Cuba Libre, and I am really glad to say that South Jersey can now easily compete with Philly when it comes to good Cuban cuisine. Love the BYOB ? our meal was under $100 before the tip.

I have been to most of the high end restaurants in Collingswood several times and Casona has become my favorite. Anyone can see how much attention and love went into the renovation. It has a working fireplace and is well heated and cooled. The restrooms are nice and very, very clean. There is another popular restaurant in Collingswood who's restrooms are filthy. If the cleanliness of a bathroom is an indication of how clean the kitchen is - Casona is the winner. I'm amazed that no one has brought this up before - especially women. If you visit Casona before lunch or brunch and have a cafe con leche, you can meet and chat with the owner. He is a professional who cares deeply about his community, customers and staff. He has made changes that would put most people out of business. Even I had some concerns about the food and service. Not that the food was ever bad, just simple and stupid things that could be easily fixed. They were. The service is attentive and sweet. Each person working there are happy to make every detail of your experience pleasant. Lazy and sloppy servers were the problem. Fortunately for Casona, all those have moved on. The other restaurants they went to are not so lucky. The steaks here are great. The paella has generous amount of moist, plump seafood over a sea of fluffy saffron rice. The have classics like ropa vieja, lechon and picadillo. Desserts are homemade and decorated nice. Brunch is divine. The lunch menu is small but includeds the famous "Sandwich Cubano." They also cater. I write this review in the hope that you will try Casona and others that may have had some issues. No restaurant is perfect, but the fact that they try so hard makes it such a great place. I am embarrassed and ashamed of some of the nasty and misleading comments about Casona and other fine restaurtants on this and other sites. Try them for yourselves and judge. For those who may have been dissapointed before - give it another chance.

Pros: Lovingly restored mansion with a working fireplace and wrap around porch. Great food!

Cons: Service still needs some tweeking - sorry guys

What a refreshing change!
I love Italain cusine, but there are Italian restaurants galore
in the South Jersey/Collingswood area. The Latin and and Cuban spin is just great!
We love the brunch on the weekends, and the lunch has become a regular meeting place for
our office nearby. Dinner has great steaks for the Gringos, Lechon and crazy-wonderful plantain nachos
for everyone! Save room to share the Tres Leches and have one of the great coffees. Glad they don't serve bread---saves room for more menu food! Be careful though, the free nuts are almost too hot!
Ask when the house Cuban jazz group will be there!!

My boyfriend and I have been to Casona many times and we really enjoy it. I thought it was a little odd when the owner asked me to review the restaurant on this site and others. Now I can see why. This is time consuming, but I am happy to do it. Happy to write about one of my favorite places in Collingswood. If I didn't like it, I would offer suggestions to the management. I would not bash the place and try to harm their reputation. There sure are some mean poeple out there.
The steaks are very good at Casona. The churassco is an outside skirt steak and it charbroiled. The fielt is one of the best I've ever tasted. The paella is good and big, made with the freshest seafood. I also like the Habana maduro. It's a whole ripened plantain stuffed with shredded roast pork or seasoned ground beef. The atmosphere is festive and fun - feels like you are on vacation somewhere. The whole building is beautiful - inside and out. The service is very good also. I was there for brunch today and the kitchen got a little backed up. It was worth the wait though. That happens sometimes at Casona and I asked why. I was told that it is not that they are not prepared. Thirty custom ordered brunch entrees firing at once can easily create delays. That is what I thought. If we were in a rush, we could have gotten out of there faster, I'm sure. Reagardless, I experienced major delays at other restaurants that were not busy. Go figure. At least they are honest (Casona.)

Cons: Minor delays sometimes with getting your food,

My husband and I have been to Casona several times, and yes once we did have a delay with a reservation. Why is this place being singled out so much for an industry wide situation. The party at the table we were watiing for took much longer than anyone anticipated. Also, we came with two more people than what was on our reservation and they couldn't and wouldn't seat us on the porch where our reservation originally was. Yes I was ticked off. Yes I became impatient. No, I didn't act like a nut, because I couldn't get my way. They explained the stiaution to us and we eventuially relaxed and enjoyed our meal. Think about how badly a person or persons must behave to be asked to leave. I know the owner and after dining at Casona yesterday, he asked me to review it. He has never been anything but professional to me and the others I have sent to Casona. The food is very good and the servers are sweet and attentive. It's a great place for large partys. I'm glad the pace is doing so well. We will be back soon, I'm sure.

i had a very strange experience at casona a few months back and felt the need to write this review after reading all the positive and negative reviews of the restaurant. i was having a mothers day dinner for my mother and made a reservation at casona on the porch. when i arrived i was upset to find out we were not going to be sat outside due to the size of the party. the hostess was very nice but firm obviously told by higher authority not to seat us outside. after the hostess and i spent some time trying to solve our dilemma the owner approached me and i have never been treated with such disrespect. i was told to leave and the hostess ended up in tears over the situation. most "five star" restaurants have a customer first policy and want us to leave with a good taste in our mouth and i left with a hungry and dissapointed party of 10.

i had a very strange experience at casona a few months back and felt the need to write this review after reading all the positive and negative reviews of the restaurant. i was having a mothers day dinner for my mother and made a reservation at casona on the porch. when i arrived i was upset to find out we were not going to be sat outside due to the size of the party. the hostess was very nice but firm obviously told by higher authority not to seat us outside. after the hostess and i spent some time trying to solve our dilemma the owner approached me and i have never been treated with such disrespect. i was told to leave and the hostess ended up in tears over the situation. most "five star" restaurants have a customer first policy and want us to leave with a good taste in our mouth and i left with a hungry and dissapointed party of 10.

Pros: great porch

Cons: customer service

I was lucky enough to dine at the cuban style restaurant Casona last weekend and I must say it truly was a great experience. From the minute we walked in we were greeted with a friendly staff and sat in a wonderfully unique dining room. The vibrant colors and ethnic music really got me in the mood for the cuban cuisine. Our server offered us the virgin mojitos which we knowingly were prepared for with our white rum and I must say they were excellent. Two pitchers excellent. We started off with lime marinated shrimp ceviche which was recommended by the server, and it was as authentic as it could be. Coming from a cuban household, my grandmother would have approved it to be traditional with a nice kick. The tricolored peppers served as a nice touch to zest it other rather then the use of tobasco that a lot of restaurants use. We moved on to the chupe and my date had the ensalada arugula. The chupe was like nothing i've ever before. A thick creamy broth with moist chicken breast, carrots, corn and parsley. It could serve as an appetizer all in itself. It did not stop from picking at the arugula across the table. An abundance of blue cheese offset by a cranberry vinaigrette dressing combined for an outstanding salad. One thing to know, however, is the salads are definitely big enough for two. Next came the entrees. My date, who is not overly experimental played it safe with the churasco steak. It had outstanding creamed mushrooms and traditional side of yucca fries. The cut was cooked to perfection (i know because she's picky). I had the lechon asado. What a combination! Beautifully marinated pork over safron rice with fried sweet plantains and a pork sauce. They truly have taken a rather simple dish and perfected it. All this rambling means nothing unless I discuss the tres leche. It should be illegal it was so good. to end the meal we met the owner larry who was kind and welcoming to us for his sunday brunch which will be reviewed shortly i assure you.

Cons: Noisy environment on weekends

I love Casona. It is one of the most beautiful restaurants in South Jersey. The food is always great. The service was shaky at times, but the owner has cleaned house. The snapper filet is fresh and tasty. The Pork chop is wonderful. Dessert and cafe con leche after dinner - what could be better. Brunch here is one of the best kept secrets in SJ. The owner does encourage customers to write write about their experiences at Casona. Why shouldn't he. Don't listen to the hearsay nonsense. How can he make anyone give it five stars. Who are these people to tell us how we should rate any place. Who are the insiders? Just consider the source. The bashing has backfired - good. These losers think they own these sites and don't know how to react when supporters write positive reviews. Casona is one of my favorite restaurants even with some of the minor problems they have had. Five stars - seriously.

Cons: Parking on the weekends

Lourdes Health System hosted an event at Casona recently. The entire event from planning to execution was handled very professionally. The management was very helpful in menu selection. After a conversation about what the goal of the event was, Larry put together a menu that was amazing. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere contributed to a very successful evening. The staff were very attentive and friendly. All who attended the event enjoyed the food and the view from the porch.

I would recommend Casona for private events -especially the porch area.

I have not been out to eat lately and then yesterday my fiance and I went to Casona for dinner. We have liked this place since it opened last year. We had the shrimp ceviche and the black bean soup then thesnapper filet and the vaca frita. We finished off sharing the key lime pie and some coffee. It was great. They were busy due to a couple of private partys and our server did have several tables. Our server happened to be the owner's nephew - a kid really. We had seen him working there before but didn't realize that he was related to the family. We had a chance to talk and ask how business was. Great he said. He told us Owner/G.M. recognized us and would come over to say hi - he did. It was around 8PM and no doubt he was already there all day and evening. We talked and caught up. Yes he did ask if we had the time to go here and other sites and review Casona - what's wrong with that? They have a right to defend themselves. These sites are not just for negative comments. Why is this place being singled out again? Who are these people with close ties to the restaurant industry? Makes me wonder who these people really are. We have never heard any server there complain they have more table then they can handle. Sure they get busy sometimes and get back up but who doesn't? We have been to everyplace in town and have had delays and problems at times. Why all this attention to them. I think it's obvious. I think they are getting five stars when it should be four or three because of the backlash from the mean and nasty attacks. Who are these people to tell us how to write or how many stars we should give. Go and try it for yourself. Like all the other restaurants in Collingswood, they are some of the nicest hardworking people around and deserve our support. I have seen first hand how some people carry on out in public and then smear a good establishment because they had a minor problem. You know the type - impossible to please and miserable.

Pros: Tropical theme, great food, friendly servers, owner encourages feedback

Cons: Can get too busy

I just want to encourage users here to do a little reality check. All of a sudden, every single review here gives this restaurant five stars. A five star restaurant should be flawless. The food should be outstanding, and the service flawless.

I have eaten here two times. Once a couple of months ago, and once very recently. I have found the food to be somewhat inconsistent. Fish was moist one time, dry another. Our appetzers were tasty one time, but bland on another. The service left something to be desired - with the server once telling me he had too many tables to manage. The thing that bothered me the most was this most recent time - our server told us about the bad reviews, and encouraged us to come here and give the restaurant five stars. A friend in touch with the local dining scene then told me about how the owner has been politicing with patrons, and writing things all over every restaurant review site he can, including posting reviews of his own restaurant. All of this, combined with the sudden rash of reviews, all of them rating the place "excellent" leave a bad taste in my mouth - especially based on my recent experience.

I just had brunch at Casona, and it was excellent. My friend and I had the Huevos Racheros and the Eggs Benedict - nice and tasty. The service was fast and friendly, the porch and inerior are gorgeous, the management solid. Saw some folks with kids in there. The owner greeted, sat and checked on us. We comented to him how happy we were and then chatted. I usually wait until after a few times to render an opinion or give a user review, but .... Will update after dinner.. Can't wait to come back! Don't miss brunch!

Cons: Can be a little chilly

Casona is a beautiful restaurant with above average food and service. It operates out of a renovated manse and it's main feature is it's grand wrap around porch. My favorites on the dinner menu are the churrasco steak and the vaca frita. The paella is also very good. Brunch is my favorite meal and Casona does it great. It's the perfect place to spend part of a lazy Sunday. Start off with a cafe con leche and a glass of fresh orange juice. The huevos rancheros are tasty and spicy. The arepa eggs benidict is thier version of the classic and very popular. They also have omlettes and french toast, etc. Casona has been highly rated by Zagat, Craig LaBan and many other reputable publicaions and sites. Most user reviews are positive also. Of course there are always bashers. These reviews seem to be written by the same people from site to site. Not every time at Casona has been perfect, but they try to fix what ever issue that arises at the time. Some people just look for problems and then seem to enjoy bashing. The management and staff at Casona are dedicated to service. It must be hard to take when people go out of their way to hurt them. I support Casona and the other great restaurants in the area. Don't listen to the negative reviews. I'm sure there have been times when the staff has gotten "in the weeds," but I sure it was not because they were "wildly overburdened" as one "reviewer" writes. The china, flatware and glassware and table settings are nice as well. I don't expect a BYO to set out expensive wine glasses because they get broken all of the time. Thier wine service is first rate. Judge for yourself and experience the passion these indidviduals have for hospitality.

Just a great place. Fine food and setting. This after multiple visits and trying many menu items. One or two visits simply do not make for fair reviews. The reviews also are in from.
The Inquirer, the Courier Post, Philadelphia Magazine, etc.
All rate Casona highly (food and service). Check these sources for yourself.! Not to be missed:
black bean soup, Casona salad, lechon, filet mignon, and flans of all sorts.
The weekend brunches feature several unique items. So far we have tried the huevos rancheros,
tropical fresh fruit waffle and eggs benedict with arepas and sausage.. We ate every bite, and
are going back for more!

This place ROCKS! Went to dinner here on Saturday night with friends. They told me how awesome this place is and I had a hard time at first thinking Collingswood NJ could have the sort of trendy restaurant they described.....but I was wrong. This place has a great latin atmosphere with a super-cool porch that is ideal on a summer night. The salmon was so delicious and the moro rice was the best I've ever had. There was a band playing latin jazz music on the porch and that was an extra bonus we didn't expect. The service staff was great and the manager even came to our table to see how we were doing. Casona's rocks.....very pleasant surprise in Collingswood!

Hearing about all the hype we had to try Casona. Six of us went there last night. We sat on the grand wrap around porch. Let me tell you, speaking on behalf of my friends, we were all impressed from the time we approached this beautiful restaurant to the time we left. By the way we closed the place because we felt as if we were on vacation in the Carribean and did not want the experience to come to an end. We ordered some appetizers for the table, which consisted of Habana Muduros, Nacho Style Mariquitas and Yucca Frita. Let me tell you we were having a party in our mouth. The flavors were delightful. Some of the entrees we ordered were the Arroz con Pollo, Paella, Grilled Tuna Steak and Churrasco Steak. As I tasted each, the flavors got better and better. We were approached by Mr. Grillo, who we were very anxious to meet, because as per the quote from Philadelphia magazine he indeed is the true ?Latin King?. Mr. Grillo asked how we were all doing and asked us about each dish. We could say enough about our experience. He actually brought the executive Chef to our table so we could meet him. The staff was attentive to our every need. The glasses were all sparking clean and there were no foreign objects floating in our water. I seem to think all of this hype on city search is really good for Casona because for a holiday weekend this place was rock-in. I have to go now I do not want to miss the award winning brunch today.

This was our first visit to Casona's. While visiting Collingswood from Washington DC for Labor Day weekend we went here for Sunday brunch. The very friendly staff immediatly sat us and brought us water & coffee. She was so charming and engaged us in friendly conversation and really made us feel welcome and at home. She treated us like we were the most loyal and frequent customers to Casona's even though it was our first time there! The menu had so many choices and they all looked good, but we settled on the Arepa Eggs Benedict and Waffle Tropical. WOW! We sampled from each others plates and the flavors were terrific! We appreciated the charm of the wrap-around dine-outside porch that had fresh cut flowers on each table. I'd imagine this place is gorgous at nigth. From friendly customer service to excellent food, this restaurant exceeded our expectations.

My husband and I eat here all the time. I have to say we eat out a lot and Casona is definitely one of our favorite places. we especially enjoy sitting out on their beautiful porch. Weather we go by ourselves or with friends we always have a great time (thanks to the BYOB) and a great meal.
My favorite salad is the Citrica salad. Its huge and you can order it by itself or with shrimp chicken or tuna. If I order it as my main dish I usually order it with the tuna its amazing.
The appetizers are all really good. We especially like the Mariqurtas, Habana Maduro, Empanadas and the Casona trio. All are big enough to share!
, My husband almost always gets ether the Paella or the Churrasco. I like to switch it up a bit. If there is a special that's what I get. I have to say I really have never been disappointed. Its always good.
We have only been there once for brunch. Only because we feel to guilty getting a baby-sitter on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. It is such a shame let me tell you when we did go I had a lovely fruit salad and eggs Benedict. It wasn't your typical eggs Benedict it was Spanish style and oh my God!

Is there anybody out there willing to take my kids to the park on a Sunday morning so I can get me some eggs benedict???????????

I never go to a restaurant expecting perfection - it doesn't exsist. Excellence can be achieved though. Casona has great promise. From the time we entered, my wife and I were almost stunned by the gorgeous landscaping and the interior, the porch is perfect for a relaxing evening in Collingswood. Craig LaBan is right. You feel like you are trasprted to the Caribbean. Sure they have minor issues, but what restaurant doesn't. I had to send my steak back because it was slightly undercooked. They fixed it and it was great. We shared the shrimp ceviche - it was typical but very good. My wife ahd the salmon well done. She loved it and so did I. I don't even like salmon. We had two cafe con leches then the tres leches dessert - yum. The owner happened to be entertaining friends last evening. We sat on the porch at a table near where the owner and his party were. Our server told us who he was and how upset he and the staff were over this disgusting bashing. He and his party seemed to be having a great time. He got up from his table about five or six times to check on things. Why are some of these people so bent on bringing him and Casona down. How is collsgirl28 qualified to judge if their kitchen is big enough? I think the owner has more experience then her. Unless she is another restaurantuer. If so well.... He explained the problems that occur and why. I think his explanations hold more weight. When we finsished, my server asked us to review the restaurant here and on other sites. That's why you are seeing more reviews. Good for them... We will be back..

I do not know Mr. Grillo. I became a member of this website because I was almost dissuaded from going to Casana based on negative reviews I read here.

I had reservations for 7:00 p.m. on a Saturday night. My guest and I were seated promptly. I was wary of the service due to complaints I had read. Our waitress' name was Maura and she did an outstanding job.

Any complaints I might have are minor and pale in comparison to the overall enjoyable dining experience.
I liked the band on the porch, but it did at times hinder conversation at a normal speaking level. I probably would have liked a little more leg room as far as the tables' proximity to each other.

However, these are minor complaints. The food was fantastic. My recollection of the dishes' Spanish names is weak ,so I will describe them. The pork with melted cheese between a split plantain and the yucca fries were great appetizers. I ordered the paella. I was more than satisfied with a heaping mound of delicious rice, shrimp, lobster, chicken, mussells, clams, etc. For dessert, we had flan which was also excellent.

I was accompanied by a woman of Latin ancestry, who was also highly complimentary of the meal.

I would highly recommend the restaurant as a pleasant dining experience.

Pros: Ambience, Service, Food

Cons: Minor - Noise level at times, tables' proximity

I am not sure what to say here. A friend told me about the controversy brewing here about this place. I am amazed at the disparate opionions. Either really bad or really good. I guess it depends on your perspective.

I specifically came over the bridge into NJ twice to have dinner here. I am a huge fan of cuban food. I'm not sure this is the place I would send people to get the best of it in the area though.

On two separate occasions, I was served an entree while my partner was left to sit and wait another 10-15 minutes for his to come out of the kitchen. Trying to track down our server was a chore - she was overwhelmed with the number of tables she was serving. I was a waiter for several years and boy is it easy to recognize when this is going on!

Service issues aside, I have not found the food here to be particularly authentic or inventive. There is just something lacking in my opinion - maybe they are experiencing growing pains or still working out the kinks, I don't know.

In any case, its hard to believe after my experience that anybody could sing the praises of this place like they have here. I am certainly not "bashing" here, just being truthful in saying that there are many other places in this area with better service and phenomenal food; your money would be much better spent at any of them.

I deliver furniture and just came from Collingswood, where I had lunch. My co-worker and I decided to try Casona for lunch. When we got there I recognized the owner from Tierra Colombiana and Mixto. He recognized me as well and was happy to see me again. We were greeted, sat, and served by him. We split an appetizer sampler then I had the Cuban sandwich which was great and my buddy had the ropa vieja. He liked his to. We also had tropical sodas. Service was fast and attentive, even though they were busy and the phone was ringing like mad. I'm glad I finally got to go and am looking forward to dinner there with my girlfriend. Once we were about to leave, the owner asked us again how everything was and we told him. He then asked us to go to this site and others and give the place an "honest and constructive" review. His suggestion. I normally would until after a few visits to do such a thing, but after reading the trash that's been written, I felt compelled to do it now. I wonder what the real reasons are for these people trying to hurt Casona and it's management. If anyone is abusive and nasty to them, what do you expect? Collingswood is a good community and it's the kind of place I want to live someday. When I get out school and can afford it that is. It's disgusting to see a good place like Casona be bashed by it's own residents. If a place that supports the town is having issues, some of you would wish them to fail. Wow, that's objective. This review is real and I'm sure there will be many others, good and bad. This bashing has brought even more attention to Casona. The place may have it's issues, but it has many loyal supporters.Congrats!!!

Pros: Great Cuban sandwich and platters, great outdoor seating on the porch

Cons: Sensative management, small lunch menu

Having been to this fine restaurant on several occasions, I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. To start the staff that work here go out of their way to make you feel welcome and really seem to enjoy working here rather than just a job. All the meals I have had here have come in a normal timely manner, and the presentation of the food has always been a wonderful surprise. I have tried many different types of entrees for both lunch & dinner but I mostly come in for lunch and enjoy their awesome salads with black bean soup. The salads have included a generous portion of greens with either grilled chicken strips or shrimp along with fresh mango and avacado. Highly recommended! The restaurant overall has a niced relaxed atmosphere - you can either sit on the porch outside or enjoy the indoors and still feel a nice gentle breeze during the nice weather. If you're looking for unique exquisite food and a relaxed comfortable setting, you'll find it all here.

My husband and i have eaten at Casona 3 or 4 times and beside a few minor issues, we have had delightful experiences there. Not only is the atmosphere warm and inviting, but the staff is consistently kind and attentive. The only problem regarding the atmosphere of the restaurant is that it can become noisy on Saturday nights. This can be an inconvenience but to me it's only a reminder of how popular Casona is. Only once have i had a a poor experience with the food. I ordered the pork chop(which is no longer on the menu) and was dissapointed with the dryness of the meat. I spoke to my server, who immediately apologized and provided me with an alternative dish. He suggested the lechon asado, which is a citrus shredded pork served over saffron rice and sweet plantians. To my delight, it was delicious! At the end of the meal, the owner checked in with our table to make sure we were satisfied with our dishes. To me this was unusual because in most restaurants the owner is usually not the one to handle customer complaints. ( I would know because I worked in the business during my college days!) I would recommend Casona to any of my friends and i plan to return soon!

Pros: Beautiful decor, flavorful and interesting food, and helpful staff

Cons: may have a moderate wait for a table on weekend nights, can be noisey

My partner and I live in Collingswood and enjoy all the restaurants there. We have been to Casona about a dozen times. Whether it was by myself, with my partner, with a group or at a catered event, every time was a different experience, yet for the most part consistant. When I heard that Casona was being bashed, I felt compelled to speak up. They were slammed for the six months, yet we still received good service and one of the best churassco steaks I've had - even better then some steak places in NYC. I've also been there during lunch when things were a disaster. I let the management know and they apologized, explained what happened, and assured me things whould improve. They did. The Cuban sandwich is amazing. I don't care for salads much, but I know what goes into theirs. The mango and avacado are perfectly ripe and fresh. The salads are nice and big. Desserts and specialty drinks can take too long sometimes, but they are individually plated and decorated for each guest. Due to the owner's resovle, the problems with service have been fixed for the most part. He explained to me that it is hard to really know how someone will perform, until thay are hired. If he sees any lazy or careless behavior he will focus on that person until they either shape up or are forced out. Unfortunately, customer service is sometimes affected in the process. Make reservations early in the week for tha weekend and don't be surprised if there is a short wait even with a reserervation. Once seated, be ready to be there for a while and relax and enjoy your meal and company.

Cons: Lazy service at times, must wait at times even with reservations, lunch can be tough

My husband and I ate here in June of 2007. We frequent Collingswood restaurants and love the BYOBs and great food there that rival much of what's over the bridge into Philadelphia.

We were excited to try Casona, but unfortunately we were pretty disappointed.

We had a 6 pm reservation for a Saturday night - the best I could get on short notice. That was fine. However, we arrived to a beautiful outdoor porch full of empty tables, but when we asked if we could be seated out there, the hostess told us curtly, in a scolding tone: "No, I have nothing available."
I assumed they were being held for later reservations. Imagine my surprise when they remained empty throughout our meal and were still that way when we left almost two hours later.

A note to wine lovers - you will be highly disappointed in their glassware. I brought a big cabernet that we were forced to drink out of restaurant supply quality, extremely small-sized glasses.

While our appetizers were tasty, we were highly disappointed in the Paella. First, while the menu stated it had octopus and scallops in it, it did not. Secondly, it had grilled shrimp on top. In paella, I believe the seafood is usually cooked in the juices of the dish itself. Similarly, much of the other shellfish - clams, lobster, mussels - appeared to have been steamed and had little, if any flavor. To add to our disappointment, the shellfish, and most especially the lobster was overcooked and dry.

Service was spotty at times. While our waitress was freindly and tried to be attentive, frankly I think she had too many tables to manage.

Lastly - while the latest I could make a reservation on Saturday night was 6 pm, when we left later, the restaurant was still only about half full.

We will not go back. This area has many other places wth better food to frequent, where diners are made to feel comfortable and welcome.

unlike some, i like to make several visits to a restaurant before i write.
sometimes one great experience or one bad one can be an anomaly.
after several visits (at least 5) i would rate casona almost perfect in food, service, and atomsphere.
because i usually drag along several friends, we get to sample many items
each time. they also have homemade sauces available if you like to 'spice/season it up' . all
you have to do ask! (our orders were perfectly seasoned though, but we like to try different things anyway)
we found our servers very pleasant and some have begun to treat us like family. we especially like: the cuban sandwich, lechon, ceviches, paella, casona salad, tres leches, mojitos; not to mention the sunday brunch menu, the live music nights, the wrap-around dining porch, and the fireplace. i agree with
south jersey magazine, philadelphia magazine, the inquirer (craig laban), and the courier post-
all found this restaurant very good to excellent! ! wow! the jury is in!!-casona has proven itself with consistency in the judgment of many professional sources (not just me and my indulgent friends!)

Pros: bodacious bargain byo!

Cons: can't really think of any (two hour meter parking is 50 cents?)

My husband & I went to Casona for dinner on Saturday night with some friends. From the minute we walked into the restaurant it was a very pleasant and warm experience, we were greeted by the very friendly staff and sat within a few minutes of our reservation time. My husband & I do not go out that often without our children so it was so nice to be able to relax & have a great time, which we did. Our Server was great & very attentive to our party (we were a group of 8). He very carefully explained the menu dishes, he also recommened his favorite dishes. We had the cuban spring rolls, the appetizer sampler, ceviche also the Casona salad, everything was fresh & delicious. We aslo had for our entrees the Tuna, the Paella & the Vodka Frita, everything was great. It was a very busy night & the only thing we did have to wait was our desserts & coffee, but our server explained to us that they had gotten alittle backed up at the coffee bar, but it was well worth the wait. When we were just about finished we were greeted by the one of the owners Lawrence Grillo who was sweet & wanted to see how our night was. Did I mention we sat on the porch which made our night even better, it was our first time there & for sure we will go again. We would recommend Casona to our friends & family.
