Overpriced/ Poor food quality

I have been to many Indian restaurants in tri-state. I was not satisfied with the service, food or price at the Mehndi. I was there for a buffet lunch with family and we were very disappointed in quality of food and service. When we got to the restaurant we came to know that there was no Sunday buffet because there was wedding party going on in Mehndi restaurant but kitchen is open so we could order food from menu. Since it was our first time we decided to give a try oh boy it was a mistake. The waiter didnt come to get our order for almost 30minutes and there was hardly anybody at the restaurant beside us (party of 10). Our water glasses were never filled unless we asked the waiter for more water. The food portions were very small for its price.
Also, waiter made an error in two of our dishes and when we got our bill he charged us for something that we didnt even order.it was such a hassle trying to explain to manager as to why should we pay for items we didnt order or eat.

I hated the place/food/service and would not recommend anybody or will go back.

Ratings_icons Nice Ambiance, poor service and not too thrilled with the food

We have heard a lot about Mehtanis restaurants across New Jersey. We were in Mehndi to celebrate our first marriage anniversary with our parents. The usher was nice and the place looked chic. The moment we got our table things started going downhill. Person attending to our table was weird, and would ask us to order food from the menu that we were not interested in. He would talk in monologue and at times act like a guy in trench coat with felt hat having something to hide. The wine served (Eroica Riesling) was not of the right temperature.
This restaurant has fixed tip of 18%. It dawned on us that the more we order more is the tip. We have no problems paying tip but if the intent is to get clientele order more it doesnt feel good!
The food was at best okay. Some of their appetizers were top class but we were not happy with the main course.
In nutshell not returning back and not recommended!

This was by far the best restaurant I have been too. The food is really good and the service is amazing. The decor is the best part- to top it off, they even have this woman doing henna tatoos.

Ratings_icons Good food. Nice atmosphere

Mehndi is one of a trio of restaurants in Headquarters Plaza. Ming II offers Chinese food with an Indian flair. Mehndi offers Indian food. There's a lounge in between.

Parking is convenient because of its location in Headquarters Plaza, and the restaurant does validate the parking.

I would consider the restaurant more upscale as far as Chinese and Indian restaurants go. The food is good, with even the kids finding food on the menu. We have brought our kids there, but would also consider this a "date-night" place.

Ratings_icons Overpriced but pretty

Compared to the average Indian restaurant, Mehndi would be considered upscale. The decor is beautiful, the lighting is low, the dishes are shaped in a paisley pattern and there's a coat check girl.

Unfortunately, with prices to match, the food doesn't add up. A friend and I dined there this week and were disappointed by the small servings and the fact that they charged $7 for rice! In most Indian places, basmati rice comes standard - at Mehndi not so. My spinach kofta dish included only four kofta balls floating in a huge bowl of sauce.

But in a state where many restaurants are BYOB, Mehndi offers ample alcoholic options, which is especially great for people staying at the adjacent Hyatt hotel.
