I have used Mid-State in the past and they have always been courteous and professional. Well, my heat went out and Mid-State came right over they figured out what the problem with my furnace was and had the part with them to fix it! The office was friendly when they answered the phone, the service man was courteous and even wore booties when he walked in my house. All in all I can see me using their service for a long time. Keep up the good work!

I had a problem where my heating system, which was about two years old, stopped working. Wanting to be cautious I turned it off until a technician could take a look at it.

Service guy took a look at it, opened up the access panel for the heating system, and it started working. I explained that it had failed to reach the target thermostat temperature and shut off prematurely a couple days prior. He basically said that unless he could see it not working, he couldn't really fix it. Fair enough. He checked out the system and could not find any problems.

A couple days later, my heating system shut off prematurely, missing the target temperature by 4 degrees. I call up the company and the guy tells me that thermostats are not supposed to hit the target temperature -- if it's close, it's good enough.. In retrospect, I think he gave me misleading information. He tells me to call back if the thermostat is off by 5 degrees or more, which again, I believe was incorrect information.

A couple days later, my heating system was again on the fritz so I call up Mid-State again, who sends the same technician out. The technician opens up the access panel and it starts working again..

Finally, a couple days after this, I called up a different company that took a look at it and did two things: He cleaned the thermocouple and he noticed that the ignitor spark distance was too close together, so he made it a bit wider. I haven't had a problem with my heater for the 3-4 months that comprised the rest of the winter.

The problem I have with what Mid-State did was that given that I was complaining about intermittent failure, wasn't it reasonable to clean the thermocouple as a matter of course ? Also, I'm pretty that the guy I talked with on the phone gave me incorrect information in terms of the thermostat not being expected to be accurate..

In sum, I think they try but they're mediocre. Or at least the technician I worked with was pretty mediocre. Personally, I would not use them ever again.
