With the North Hackensack Pathmark gone, this Bergenfield location picks up the slack just fine. It is smaller than the other one was, and was in operation long before. I'm amazed that the N.Hackensack one got cut. They were next to Home Depot and in a large strip type shopping center. This Bergenfield location is a stand alone. New Bridge Road is a major connecting road and I guess it is easier to drive in and out this lot rather than to the back of the huge Home Depot lot, so the traffic flow is more fluid.

Plus, this is a 24 hour operation. It can get mighty spooky outside at 3am, but you can get whatever you need that one or two times a year the need or mood strikes you at an unGodly hour. Just look out for zombies. There is a 24 hour Walgreens across and down the street at the corner of New Bridge and S.Washington, so there is some late night competition for the one or two item night owl shopper.

The one thing I miss when choosing to go to Pathmark is that there is no self scanning hand devices that Stop and Shop has employed to speed checkout of a large order. This Pathmark does have self checkout aisles - in fact, in the overnight hours that is all you have! But if they had the hand scanner, you can fly through checkout because you have already scanned and bagged your order as you shopped.

Pathmark does have a staffed fresh fish section that the Teaneck Stop and Shop does not, and you can't beat the sheer volume of selection of meats and dairy, yogurts and juices, flowers, baked goods, deli, and prepared foods at this location. There is NO beer and liquor at this location, but neither does the Teaneck Stop and Shop. This Pathmark's best competitor is the much larger Stop and Shop way up in Dumont, but that one is not 24 hours.

They need to beef up security - on more than one occasion over the years, I've witnessed a person pick up a plant or pot of flowers from the floral desk that is right at the front doors, and infrequently manned, and then scoot right out the door with it! I know they did not pre-pay, because they were just ahead of me as they entered. It seems too easy for the morally corrupt to look around and grab and go - the entrance way does not force you to go all the way around through a checkout aisle to exit. At heavy flower occasions like Mother's Day or Valentines, I can't see how the store doesn't suffer a noticeable loss of inventory in that department. Overall, I'd recommend this market.
