If your foot problem is serious, I recommend that you DO NOT go to this podiatrist, or you just might regret it for the rest of your life. This doctor may be a good source for orthotics (shoe inserts), scraping off your calluses, or fixing ingrown toenails - but THINK TWICE BEFORE ALLOWING HIM TO PERFORM SURGERY on your toes or feet! I went to Dr. Mark Bauman to surgically correct a hammer toe (which is a toe that's too long and curls under in an attempt to match the length of your other toes and fit inside shoes). A hammer toe can only be corrected by going under anesthesia, and having the bone cut and shortened in a hospital operating room, followed by months of limping around in a protective boot. Although Dr. Bauman performed TWO surgeries on my toe (a couple of months apart), he failed to shorten the toe sufficiently on both occassions. After each surgery, I was left with the same problem I'd had from the start, because the toe was still too long. At no time did Dr. Bauman tell me he wasn't capable of achieving the proper outcome -- nor did he ever suggest that I find a different podiatrist with more advanced skills. After TWO screwed up surgeries, I finally sought out a new doctor to do the job right. The new podiatrist was able to correct my hammer toe in a third (and final) surgery, and he did so perfectly. As you can imagine, having three surgeries on one toe has now left me with a permanent low-grade ache that will never go away. In addition, my toe looks pretty much like hamburger meat, having been sliced open twice vertically and once horizontally. All of this could have been avoided if Dr. Bauman had told me he wasn't skilled enough to do the job. If he had, I could have found a better doctor and fixed the problem in ONE surgery, instead of THREE. After what I've been through, I suggest that if you've got a foot problem that requires surgery, run (don't walk) out of Dr. Mark Bauman's office and find someone else.
