"Replacement of house main stack pipe. Initially plumber came right away. Some delay in obtaining parts and returning. However, in the company's favor, on the final day of the project they had between 4-7 people on site to ensure that it was completed that day"

Needed a simple fix for my other unit's gas boiler that I wasn't sure how to do myself. I called them up and they sent a guy right over. So far so good. The guy came and suggested a total flush for the system, charging $300+. As it was a new boiler, I didn't think it needed a flush so I said I needed to think about it. The guy said I had to pay him $100 for the estimate (could be applied toward cost of repair). This was news to me and I told him so. He said that it was their policy to always tell customers about the $100 ... in other words, he claimed that I was lying. That really pissed me off! I never would have let the estimator guy come if I knew there was a $100 charge. We went back and forth, and he finally waived the "charge", which is why this review is not more scathing.

So, I can't say whether or not they do good work since I (obviously) didn't hire them. But I can say that when the guy from Lyons fuel came to fix our oil burner, he took a look a the gas boiler in question and fixed it for free in about 20 minutes.

We had our gas go out recently and the guys at General Plumbing came out immediately and did everything to get us up and running. They are neat and their pricing was fair.

We called General Plumbing and Heating Co to fix our garbage disposal, which had suddenly stopped working. The plumber who arrived flipped the garbage disposal switch, then tried hitting the reset button, and when these things failed to create desired effect, told me that the disposal needed to be replaced. Ok, I tried that much myself, but maybe sometimes replacement is better/cheaper/more efficient than actually fixing... or actually attempting to,,,.

No, the real problem with this company arose when the plumber told me that it would cost $800 to replace the garbage disposal. Being a rational human being, I questioned this. We looked up the cost of the actual disposal itself ($80 at Home Depot) and inquired---- what could the other $720 be for? The plumber then informed me that this was a flat fee that could not be itemized.... when I pressed for some at least general itemization of what we would be paying for, he behaved very suspiciously, changing his story, stating that he could not possibly write down, even on all the paper that I had available in my house, the entire list of fees, the insurance costs (!!?!), the labor charges and taxes that contributed to this sum.

We called the office who also confirmed this $800 flat fee for garbage disposal replacement. So, apparently, this is not one lone dubious operator/plumber.

In the end, we bought the replacement GD for $80 and replaced it ourselves. It took us 15 minutes from start to finish, plus the trip to the store.

I would never call this company again, I would not trust this company.... and would highly highly recommend that you look elsewhere!!!
