The first scheduled estimate was a no call, no show. I agreed to let them come out the next weekend to make up for it. When I got the estimate, it was a ridiculous figure with no breakdown. I asked for a breakdown and got a lot of grief "we don't do breakdowns" "this is why we don't work with insurance companies" (my job was not through insurance, I just wanted to know what in the world they had put in my quote) They finally gave me a semi-breakdown, which included $2,500 in plumbing ***there was no plumbing on my job!!!!!!! Thereafter, I got a quote for the electrical portion of the job from an electrician. He quoted me 1/5 of the price that Father and Son quoted. I truly feel that me being a woman had a lot to do with it, they just assumed I would just say "ok" because I was clueless. Well, guess what, I'm not!!

With a contract that is less that descriptive we found ourselves paying extra for larger windows, upgraded electric and numerous "unforseen expenses". We thought that a representative of their company would know what county codes were but instead ended up with a hole in our garage floor and a failed inspection that cost us the expense of re-running gas lines. This was just one of many 'mistakes" that cost us more than we bargained for. We were very happy to see them finish and gone even though the finished months later that their initial prediction. Their subcontractors were the best at their trade and much more honest and personable than the F& S rep. Cost overruns would have been 50% of the contract $30K so we decided to do a lot of the work ourselves. I would not recommend them at all.

Business Response:

Disappointing As an owner, I am sorry to read this review. I can say that all of our responsibilities are listed and all materials that are included for a project are also detailed and the final contract price is clearly spelled out. Unforeseen expenses can be burdensome to any project and you never know what you can come across when you open walls or ceilings until you get into a job. Father & Son Construction does not add costs to jobs in the intial contract to cover hidden expenses. We only bill for what is needed for a project. You can see our rating on the BBB.org site and be assured that we are a great company that always stands behind our work. That, as well as happy customers, have kept us going for over 43 years. And if anyone has a complaint or question, you can always deal right with the owner to come to a remedy. Fortunately, 95 percent of our clients would use us again or recommened us to another homeowner. I wish that this particular customer felt the same.
