I strongly discourage the rental of this facility. The reason for this is not due to the facility, it is the people that run it and the level of service we have received. I had my wedding there on the 21st of February. The agreement was $200 hall rental and $150 deposit to be given back after use. We went in Saturday and set up, had the wedding and reception Sunday, and finished cleaning Monday. Apparently this was against the guidelines as we were only supposed to be there for one day. Unfortunately, they did not have us sign any paperwork or gave us any copies of the rules so we were not aware that we were not allowed to go in Saturday night or finish cleaning Monday.
At about 9 a.m. Monday morning, we received a very rude call from Carol Peistrack. It did not start with any pleasantries but rather a very rude tone informing us that if we were not there within an hour to clean the hall and get our stuff out, our deposit would be kept and our belongings would be put in the trash. That call ended with Carol rudely hanging up on us. We showed up around 9:30 a.m. and cleaned the hall (which included mopping, brooming, moving tables and chairs, etc.). We had finished cleaning around noon. We had already planned on arriving early to finish cleaning and did not expect the extremely rude phone call. After following up about our deposit, we were informed they intended to keep it. We even went to a board meeting as to not allow a one sided story to happen. After questioning them they gave a list of very unreasonable excuses.
1. We were at the hall for more than one day, which we weren't informed we couldn't set up and clean up the day before and after. No paperwork was signed and no guidelines were given.
2. Someone threw trash in the recycling bin. My wife and I were the only ones cleaning up and neither of us had thrown anything in there. This recycling bin is open to the public and is basically a very large dumpster. Anyone can go and throw anything in there at anytime.
3. They claimed we had a larger number of people there than there actually was. We told them about 30 people would come and approximately 40 showed up. They had claimed there were even more than that.
4. They claimed the hall was not cleaned, mopped, etc. and that their custodian had suggested that we were "unworthy of our deposit being sent back". Except, we took pictures of the hall afterwards that shows the cleanliness and you can still see the wet floors from mopping.
5. One member of the board was very adamant on claiming that we threw straw in the recycling bin and that he had counted more than 5 small bales between the two dumpsters. I had informed him we only had 3 at the wedding, one on either side of the the archway and one behind it. He passed it off and said I wasn't being truthful.
6. They said to have a wedding there was around $600 and they only charged us $350 (that includes the deposit they had already planned on keeping), almost as if it were any reason to not get our deposit back.
All said, they put it to a vote and and immediately agreed to not return the deposit. Except for one person, Carol Peistrack. Which brings me to her. I don't know why she had been the only one in favor of returning it, when questioned as to why by one of the board members, she smiled and said "I already told you" with a smug grin. Maybe it was salt in the wound, maybe she knew that even if she agreed to return it she would still be the minority and it wouldn't get returned anyways - we don't know. I had an unpleasant experience with her before the board meeting. I had called and left a message requesting a call back. She had returned my call a few days later. I was pleasant with her and asked about how long it takes for the deposit to be processed and returned. She had started throwing the above mentioned "reasons" as to why we were "unworthy" of our deposit. This call had ended up with her hanging up on me again, for the second time. Very unprofessional. When I called back, her reasoning was she had a meeting to go to.

i have been in the deepriver township hall several times, and as many times as i have been there it seems to have the same problems that could use some tlc. I recently d.jed. there and was upset to see things the way they were. i am a deepriver res. and would like to see better care of this hall.
